Building Leigh Griffiths

324

I doubt even Leigh Griffiths’ dad thought he had this kind of form in him when he signed for Celtic in January last year. The then 23-year-old had ‘squad filler’ written all over him as he waited in line behind Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes. The arrival of John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic a year ago could have limited Leigh’s chances further, but neither showed enough form to make the striker position their own.

Prospects looked bleak last season. Two starts before Christmas, Leigh spent time with the youths and looked to be heading out of the club in January, but with the manager’s mind increasingly made up on Guidetti and Scepovic, he got his chance. The transformation has been remarkable. His goals return compares to the best in the modern era, but it’s the type of goals he scores which has caught the attention most.

He’s fast, skilful, can out-jump central defenders and scores goals in big games. Should Celtic choose to play with Carlton Cole as a target man, Leigh will also be able to play to his left.

Whatever Ronny Deila achieves this season, the improvement in Leigh Griffiths will feature high up the list.  Leigh’s attitude to self-improvement is also worth noting.

    Hunderbirds,

Why is it a shock for an Israel citizen to not chase money?

Anyway, we don’t know the contract details.

Maybe the EBT scheme are not illegal. Just another avoidance scheme so many big companies use. Out off all the times it’s been in court only one person has said they are illegal. Last judge was a Celtic season book holder which should not make any difference.

Tremendous news about Nir signing a new contract, a good boost for us.

Hamiltontim/ South of Tunis re the polis.

A friend of mine was in the Met over twenty years ago.

I was down visiting him and he was moaning about the fact interviews with suspects had to be recorded. I said to him if the polis hadn’t fitted so many people up , the Birmingham six and Guilford four were the examples I used, then there might not have been any need for tape recordings of suspects being interviewed. He wasn’t too happy.

  4. HT – whatever the ruling its from the highest court so less challengeable in future. It’s jurisdiction is also over the whole UK.

LP – true but as I say it completely draws a line under it. I wouldn’t be totally surprised with it going either way but the fact its ending up there might be very little to do with wagons being circled for DMs benefit and more to do with a definitive ruling.

I was at a 50th on Saturday night and the birthday boy is a policeman. He was scathing in his analysis of House and recent policy decisions.

Hamiltontim, a friend of mine isn’t a polis but works for them at one of the new offices polis Scotland have.

He told me all the polis and non-polis who work there weren’t too unhappy about the news about House chucking it.

But judges let them away with it a lot of the time. They must know that they are being fed bullsheet, but they adopt the Lord Denning appaling vista attitude.

  11. LP – should also have said that HMRC are trying to close as many of these schemes as the can and this one has been quite widely used. Its a really important ruling for them.

  12. Great news that Nir has signed on for another 5 years. Looking forward to seeing him and Scott Allan link up, two quality passers of the ball.
