Business complete after Griffiths

1474

With Leigh Griffiths set to sign in the next few moments our business for the January transfer window is complete.  As well as Leigh, we added 20-year-old Icelandic striker Holmbert Fridjobsson, and 23-year-old Norwegian left-midfielder, Stefan Johansen.

I expect Johansen and Griffiths to be holding down a starting place no later than next month.  Johansen’s case will be made all the more straightforward if Joe Ledley accepts an offer from Crystal Palace, although he may choose to wait until the summer before leaving.

We’ll be wondering why we signed Mo Bangura years from now, he patently didn’t look a player at Celtic.

Neil Lennon has a fixer-upper with Leigh, a player he has taken a number of references for and believes he can turn into a productive Celtic player.   The player’s personal history is something he has to put behind him now.  I’ve read many comments on this subject over the last few days, with some empathy, but it’s just as well Twitter wasn’t around in the 60s, 70s or 80s.  Some of our heroes from past eras have been more than a tad off-colour in my earshot.

Time for Leigh to get onto the field and do what he does best.

    Hamiltontim.

Doesn’t make sense to sign a precontract with a team in a relegation dogfight. If he signs he’ll surely not wait for chpionship football.

Joe Filipis Haircut, i agree but what we need now is a period of stability & a chance for players to get to know each other for next few months so we have maximum performances to qualify for CL group stage thats imperative & comes first rather than selling players. £78m should ensure we have this stability.

  4. Hamiltontim is praying for Oscar on

Interesting that Griffith says that he knew of celtic’s interest as far back as mid December.

Kayal 33 The Bhoy has made a good statement he is glad to be here and wants to win things and play in the CL. Welcome to the Hoops Leigh I hope you score for fun.H.H.

  6. 4 year deal for Leigh Griffiths, let’s see what he can do.

Welcome LG- hope Life’s Good at the mighty Celtic for you.

Can we drop all the “he better lose the baggage”, “keep of the front pages”, “grow up” etc….

He is 23 and is gonna be all the man he ever will be. The SMSM will now be in overdrive digging up whatever crap they can. Let’s not do their ‘work’ for them please.

    Good luck son.

paolosboots. If clubs come in with huge offers we will sell the only way offers wont come in is if we are not doing well.So a long term settled team is in the past the better Celtic do the more players will move on but remember this is the model Porto use and it hasnt done them any harm.H.H.

Hunskelper I hope you are right, his stats are good & his age also & i will support anyone who wears the hoops that goes without saying. i liked the look of Ibrahima Toure in the summer from Monaco but he went to the Middle East or like many Finnbogosan due to his scoring ratio & he had lived in Scotland before which would have helped him settle quicker. But as you said its a gamble time will tell.

Pmtyh, I’ve tried a few glen moray’s but never a single cask. Unusual to see a 7 Y.O. bottling.

Bruichladdich released a fantastic 7 Y.O. (waves) a few years back. Fantastic dram it was too. I’ve never believed in the older the better. One of the worst drams I ever tasted was a 40 year old. It was vile.

Sooper Joe has been a solid performer and, if he leaves, he will certainly deserve our thanks.

I personally doubt he will forego the opportunity of a better contract and greater choice of club that being a free agent will likely bring. If that does happen I will be derply disappointed if he is a firstvteam starter mind…

The failure to sign a quality striker is deeply disappointing but in Griffiths we have at last signed s striker with good stats. Of course stats aren’t everything but the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour. Lets hope that Leigh remains faithful to his football and is more considered in his social life.

Welcome to Celtic Leigh; prove us oubters wrong and your manager right…

  20. Robert88 @ 16:17,

Apologies for the delay in getting back – the 31st is Tax Return Day so always get a visit from the ex…

“Sevco still think that they have income that they once had and aren’t moving with the times, example doing a Gretna Green, buying the best players for the league and wining it, so on and so on, then growing as they go up the leagues. Super Ally cant go out and do that the hordes would go f ing mental, that’s the reality they just wont accept it.”

Well that’s very true, now they say they don’t like getting lied too, so why don’t Sevco tell the truth and shame themselves.

That Gretna plan is the way – I never thought about that.

Spoke to the assistant manager from that time he was a Chairboy, they used to do some pretty smart things.

He was in my team, every now and again we would get to a ~ lets call it an “impasse” with a Client.

I would say how come I get involved when it comes to this stage…

He’d turn to me with that sarcastic wit, and leprechaunic smile and say…

That’s why the pay you the big bucks geezer…

Now here’s how it should work at Celtic.

The scouts or coaching staff or Lenny himself spots a potential signing – not the KoK, not anymore:-)

    Lenny goes to PL…

This guy will be ideal for the squad, opens the file and puts it in front of PL.

    The Player wants this…

    His agent wants this…

    And

    The Club wants this…

quonno. Due to the money that is spent by the Large clubs I would have to assume it will be along time away. However, what makes football in my opinion so interesting is that its not predictable ie.who would have thought last season that Wigan would win the FA CUP ?So we live in hope.H.H.

Here we go again, don’t doubt for a minute how far we have slipped as a club. Champions League ambitions but we always seem to shop at Poundland. Unfortunately all our other ‘bargain’ strikers seem to sit in the stand or the bench, so I hope LG is different

For balance, here’s some other stuff Neil said when asked specific questions by journalists looking for an “angle” :

“He’s here, the deal’s agreed and, subject to a medical, he’ll hopefully be a Celtic player by the time window closes. He knows the environment, he’s a prolific goalscorer and I think that we can make him better. He’ll be a good asset to the club. Leigh seems like a very focused player and is delighted to be here.”
