Business complete after Griffiths

1474

With Leigh Griffiths set to sign in the next few moments our business for the January transfer window is complete.  As well as Leigh, we added 20-year-old Icelandic striker Holmbert Fridjobsson, and 23-year-old Norwegian left-midfielder, Stefan Johansen.

I expect Johansen and Griffiths to be holding down a starting place no later than next month.  Johansen’s case will be made all the more straightforward if Joe Ledley accepts an offer from Crystal Palace, although he may choose to wait until the summer before leaving.

We’ll be wondering why we signed Mo Bangura years from now, he patently didn’t look a player at Celtic.

Neil Lennon has a fixer-upper with Leigh, a player he has taken a number of references for and believes he can turn into a productive Celtic player.   The player’s personal history is something he has to put behind him now.  I’ve read many comments on this subject over the last few days, with some empathy, but it’s just as well Twitter wasn’t around in the 60s, 70s or 80s.  Some of our heroes from past eras have been more than a tad off-colour in my earshot.

Time for Leigh to get onto the field and do what he does best.

  1. Paolo, I haven’t seen much of him. Generally, I don’t want Celtic to buy from England. The market is so crazy there. There are better markets for Celtic to explore. How much scouting are we doing in places like Poland for example? I don’t accept that we just give up and say that we cannot compete. We have the resources to try to improve without going bankrupt. Good to hear from you all. Gotta go.

The problem with that approach is that all these “second options” add up to a LOT of money, so when it comes to look at our next target there’s less available in the pot.

Oh mate, I don’t think we won. I don’t think true justice was meted out (And I mean genuine justice, not the dreams of a Celtic fan). I am well aware of the cabal’s desire to bend every rule for… Well, for what?

Because mate I do know one thing. Gary Hooper scored the last goal against Rangers at Celtic Park a few years back in a local derby. That team are dead and no longer exist.

I released them from my woes and me from theirs. Whatever goes on, whatever shenanigans, however I react to new favours done to the tribute act – I know the truth.

And in the deep dark of the alone night so do all their fans. What once was is no more.

    Good Evening One and All,

There has been frantic activity behind the scenes at CQN Towers on a whole variety of fronts relating to the magazine, the forthcoming Seville book and CQ10 which is rapidly turning into………. well I won’t say anymore about that until nearer the time.

The book of Seville stories will be the biggest publication that we have ever undertaking and we intend having a massive 64 pages of photographs.

Now, we want to try and get as many CQN’ers into the book as possible so if you have any really good photos that you would want to have included please send them on to me at editor@cqnmagazine.com.

Please don’t send us hundreds– just maybe two or three, or at a stretch four, of the the very best ones you have of the events in Seville.

We have masses of stories– some sad— some unbelievably funny— and some just plain remarkable or in my cast daft!

The next edition of that magazine will be out next week ( hopefully ) and yes it will contain THAT interview.

I saw various people enquiring whether Pat Nevin asked for anything to be taken out or amended?

The answer is no — what you get is what was said warts and all — but be warned now — it is a long read and there is a lot in it. We are already working on the next edition of the magazine and have a couple of interesting features under way for that.

On a completely different topic, ACGR was good enough to give me a wee sampler of his Craigellachie telford’s Bridge Whisky last week as we have a special bottle to auction.

I know that some of you have been fortunate to sample a drop of this amber nectar already but for any Whisky Doyennes out there this is as smooth a drop as you will taste in many a mile in this wee country.

I am no Whisky expert or practitioner, but I do have the occasional dram and have my favourite tipples, and this drop is a pure winner in my opinion. So thanks to Mick for my wee sample and thanks to him for the bottle for auction.

I bumped into Lennybhoy at the game briefly on Wednesday and was reminded that he and Old Tim have assembled a rare gathering of unusual suspects for the CQ10 dinner.

Could I ask everyone who has booked a table to e-mail me at editor@cqnmagazine to indicate the make up of your table — all male, mixed, all female even ( though I somehow doubt that ) so that we can gauge the numbers and the make up of people coming.

If you were able to actually provide a list of names for your table ( blog names or real names or even both ) then that would be fantastic.

Best of luck to Leigh Griffiths — I hope he grows to fit the shirt and do it proud — and the same goes for our other two winter signings.

Latly, if anyone has something they want to donate for the charity auction and raffle at CQ10 then again give me a shout at the e-mail address above.

Greenpinata, I have no doubt that Celtic try to get players but there comes a time when the excuses become annoying. At some point, we have to buy somebody who can create from midfield for example. Therefore we have to spend extra. In no way do I support obscene spending but I think we can afford to go for a 3-4 million player.

VVD came to us. Celtic remains an attractive place to go. We can also pay decent wages in comparison to clubs from other smaller countries. Have a good night.

Kojo, I am well thanks. Looking forward to being wrong about LG in Europe. Keep posting.

    —————————————————————–

It does become annoying when we have expectations and those expectations are not met. I agree that we need a midfield creative. Some have suggested Johansson (sp?) may be that player. I don’t know – I know nothing about him. When you say “At some point, we have to buy somebody who can create from midfield for example. Therefore we have to spend extra” I think about Moravcik and Nakamura. But I’m not sure that spending X amount guarantees anything – it probably increases the chance but there’s certainly no guarantee (viz : Bangura, various other “strikers” recently). I think what frustrates us all is that what when we don;t spend money, that appears to show a lack of ambition. I’m not sure what the answer is, but you can probably think of lots of examples where teams spend big and get little or nothing back. Football is a risky business of course, but Celtic don’t have the luxury of the kind of Sky TV money that mitigates against bad mistakes. In my view we’ve made some mistakes over the past while – these are well documented by other posters (sometimes daily!). But I’m not convinced that of we spent, say £5m, on a single player we’d get a guaranteed return.

Midfield 3 of Biton, brown, johansen, forward 3 of griffiths, Forrest, commons.. Not the best but certainly not the worst options we have had.

Biggest worry is in the summer when the so called big clubs come in for Forster, van dijk, Matthews, lustig. Replacing Forster and van dijk will be a hard task! Ledleys been a good servant I wish him well. His da and brother will miss the games that’s for sure! They travelled to every match and loved the sing songs before the games!
