Business complete after Griffiths

1474

With Leigh Griffiths set to sign in the next few moments our business for the January transfer window is complete.  As well as Leigh, we added 20-year-old Icelandic striker Holmbert Fridjobsson, and 23-year-old Norwegian left-midfielder, Stefan Johansen.

I expect Johansen and Griffiths to be holding down a starting place no later than next month.  Johansen’s case will be made all the more straightforward if Joe Ledley accepts an offer from Crystal Palace, although he may choose to wait until the summer before leaving.

We’ll be wondering why we signed Mo Bangura years from now, he patently didn’t look a player at Celtic.

Neil Lennon has a fixer-upper with Leigh, a player he has taken a number of references for and believes he can turn into a productive Celtic player.   The player’s personal history is something he has to put behind him now.  I’ve read many comments on this subject over the last few days, with some empathy, but it’s just as well Twitter wasn’t around in the 60s, 70s or 80s.  Some of our heroes from past eras have been more than a tad off-colour in my earshot.

Time for Leigh to get onto the field and do what he does best.

Mate, people like him make me smile, he reminds me of Baldrick, and for that I am grateful. Don’t take him too seriously lest who be the fool.

So your evidence that we had been lied to is your subjective opinion that when paying wages, bills, taxes and suppliers to keep the club running we are not investing in Celtic. I agree it is not all spent on player purchase and wages but if we do not pay our bills then we do not have a club for these players to play at.

As far as I am aware only one of our three new signings has actually taken to the field, and only for a few minutes at that, but I will bow to your superior fortune telling abilities.

This years Champions League campaign was not as good as the previous seasons however we were seeded 4th and finished 4th, not how I wanted it but the truth none the less, so we met UEFA expectations if not our own. Gary Hooper and Victor Wanyama chose to leave, I have said repeatedly that Celtic could not have made any offer to either player which would have kept them at Celtic.

Lack of ambition makes me think of the early 90’s when aspiring to second or third was the highlight of our season. Celtic are in a good state at the moment, not perfect but good, I am enjoying my team you obviously do not. This does not give you the right to treat those who disagree with you as some sort of slow witted fool.

  3. Fred is this the first time you have come across tonydonnely? All you need to know is that he is now pretending that he kidded on about making a list of those to be ostracised on this blog. Then in the next sentence he said he had the list. It’s all nonsense.

HT, see since you turned 50 last week you’ve really turned into a boring old fart. Did you get a pipe and slippers?

    No.

    ‘Ethnicity’

    1.

the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition.

Now for all that TD might be a right pain in the arse he’s not attempting to ‘cleanse’ CQN of any ‘ethnic’ group.

Jeezo I was making a simple point but you can’t even admit that without argument.

  6. Oh and by the way mate, you were spot on with your ethnic cleansing analogy. Others bringing meaning to it where none existed are just fools, tools, or mischief makers. In my opinion they are just objurgaters for the want of a more vulgar word.

wtf is everybody moanin about, he’s only a young lad, and look at what the government etc. is doing, which fosters this sort of attitude anyway.

my view, ignore all but the first phrase, because the rest is true.

As is the first, but I’m proud we’re moanin about it

And I’m quickly losin track of my point here, cos of the drink and drugs, as Kit pointed out. But, I think I mean, I’m glad we care

And you were right to tell me to get a grip, I went in too heavy ;)

Great post. Like you, I’m enjoying my team just now. There’s a good energy, a good atmosphere and a real desire within the squad.

Nothing will ever be perfect but I pity those that are unable to enjoy watching Celtic. I might be as sharp as a beachball to some on here. Who cares?:-)

Please don’t take that personally (I know you didn’t) but that seems to be the default starting point for a lot on here. Arrogance is just a breeze for them. Pity help posters who are struggling with their medication and trying to contribute.

  11. Strange

Someone near you pretends their is no difference between ‘lied’ and ‘failed’

All for the sake of froth and self promotion.

How dark everything must be in that place

TET, sad as it is your 01.30 post may be true but FFS couldn’t you have finished it by bequeathing me your tiles. My main man Hugo Hernandez has a van and can collect for a small fee plus petrol.

Only kidding, you need to hang aboot long enough for us to establish a CQN Spain sclaffbaw branch or division or summat………………………….

Hee hee, see you Wednesday bud.

Earlier to day I had a spat with you and just wanted to say that at no point was it my intention to cause upset or offence.

Stone cold sober at present but see in about 18 hours time cannot say the same.

  14. Big cup winners. Where to start. Why do you conclude I don’t support the club. Having ad seasons tickets for decades, buying every celtic top ever etc etc. spending way too much time worrying and writing about celtic. Why don’t you think is upport celtic. Would it help you sleep to think I was a st mirren supporter? Knock yourself out.

Owen you have no idea of the abuse I get on here for holding my views. So I retaliate. My apologies if you feel I am treating you like a fool. It’s just frustration. We should be so much better than we are. But we are our own worst enemies. PL did not say we would invest the transfer money after paying the levy bill (that’s where the season ticket money goes). Phew said he would use every penny gained in the transfer market to spend in the transfer market. He simply lied and is continuing to do so. I know it’s horrible to accept but they are abusing the support. Sorry to bring that cold hard reality into focus, but god we need to face up to it.

  15. Jesus nakkasammi. Ok once more.PL stated ambition was to improve every transfer window. I agree with that ambition. That’s it. That’s my ambition. But he lied because that ain’t what’s happening.

    Is that clear?

  16. owen:

I never got my nose out of joint with you mate, you have your opinions and you articulate best you can, just like I do too. You never offended me once and I sincerely hope I never offended you, but like you too, I reserve the right to differ and to put my views into words and as long as we don’t get ‘too’ personal, what harm is done.

I enjoyed talking with you earlier, it was like a pub talk with a mate whom you trust.

  17. ACGR

Honestly, and this is the truth, I knew I should have said the tiles were yours as soon as I posted, but thankfully I didn’t. cos if the young fella is looking in, he would have castrated me >} and having no capability to reproduce, I really don’t want to go through that again.

    They will cost you 600 euros, feck all to a mhan of your status, I can even give you the addy where to get them >}}}}

    See you soon mi amigo

I agree it’s good that we as a support are sensitive to these issues but we sometimes get too judgemental. I know it’s a thin line between saying something or doing nothing. Anyway glad it’s an amicable ending. We can now get back to enjoying the drink and drugs :)

  19. Hamiltontim I completely disagree with you even using your definition. A social group with a cultural tradition? That’s what many are on here a group that vacant see no Wong in celtic and a group that questions. The former wants to cleanse the latter from this site. Ergo ethnic cleansing?

So I think my phrase is entirely appropriate.

Kit I spend loads of time in academic circles. I love all this linguistic stuff.

  20. NegAnon2

    Nope, it’s not clear

How can you comment on any lack of progress/improvement/ambition when you’ve yet to see guys we’ve just signed perform?

My buddy in the office is a keen twitcher and asked me today if I knew the difference between a cormorant and a shag.

I’ve no idea about feathered birds so I told him the only difference I was aware of is that I’ve never had a cigarette after a cormorant.

  22. NegAnon2

I read the blog most days for the past few years and have to say I have seen you dishing out and receiving abuse so don’t give it the wounded innocence act.

The profit and loss accounts for Celtic are publicly available and show that season book, merchandise sales and advertising revenue are not always enough to generate a profit. Player sales are an integral part of Celtic continuing to keep the doors open and the lights on.

You interpret what you hear from Peter Lawwell and the board to suit your own purposes I disagree with your interpretation.

One small suggestion if you dialled back a bit on the talking down to people you may find you take a bit less abuse.

  23. NegAnon2:

Do you know what I love the most mate… I love the passion. And I love it more when the passion becomes emotional and it is made manifest in words… that’s when you see the true colours, the real person behind the screen.

HT is a good guy, like me he is proud to be born Scottish and a Celtic Supporter. I know that for fact because he once looked into my eyes and told me so.

He’s a very passionate supporter, and like me too he is not ashamed of his emotions. So he called me a dick, he dared to use the vernacular. Good on him his honesty of the moment. I like him more. He does not post vindictively.

  24. Owen no I wouldn’t. So I will fight on. Pity you aren’t magnanimous enough to take the apology. But so be it.

  25. NegAnon2

    You’re all over the place!

If you read back I agreed with you about those two. That was a backward step letting them go and not replacing them with similar quality

I did add, going forward, the next CL campaign will be when we measure this particular window.

Please agree with me. I need to go to bed :-)
