Business complete after Griffiths

1474

With Leigh Griffiths set to sign in the next few moments our business for the January transfer window is complete.  As well as Leigh, we added 20-year-old Icelandic striker Holmbert Fridjobsson, and 23-year-old Norwegian left-midfielder, Stefan Johansen.

I expect Johansen and Griffiths to be holding down a starting place no later than next month.  Johansen’s case will be made all the more straightforward if Joe Ledley accepts an offer from Crystal Palace, although he may choose to wait until the summer before leaving.

We’ll be wondering why we signed Mo Bangura years from now, he patently didn’t look a player at Celtic.

Neil Lennon has a fixer-upper with Leigh, a player he has taken a number of references for and believes he can turn into a productive Celtic player.   The player’s personal history is something he has to put behind him now.  I’ve read many comments on this subject over the last few days, with some empathy, but it’s just as well Twitter wasn’t around in the 60s, 70s or 80s.  Some of our heroes from past eras have been more than a tad off-colour in my earshot.

Time for Leigh to get onto the field and do what he does best.

Wow I, am impressed and baffled. Would like to offer you a constructive debate but I don’t know where to begin.

    Cheers and HH to you.

  2. As mkuch as I like Ledley, not that much,I hope he gets relegated with Palace. He can take his extra money, his place in England, but I hope its in the 2nd Div.Its about time these guys learned just what they have got playing with Celtic.A relegation battle,no medals, and a chance of dropping down a Div should set the alarm bells ringing for our other stars.I really hope he rots in the 2nd Div,and thinks back to the times he hd at Celtic.I am sure he will never hear”Joe ,Joe Super Joe”during his time in the lower echelons of the most hyped league in the world.

Again I hope Hooper goes the same way.Not being bitter because they left us,I loved Hooper, but the same applies.Get them demoted, see how they like it with no spotlight on them.

Kit, there will be no ethnic cleansing of moustachioed Celtic supporters next season for two reasons:

    1. Peter the Great is continuing the £100 SB discount.

    But who cares about that?

    2. These are the new Celtic Chior we’ve heard so much about.

Alas I wont be taking up my seat as I’m refurbishing my toolshed and I’ve engaged these dodgy builders to carry out the workscope. I’ll need to keep a right good eye on them and my tools. Simply for health and safety reasons like.

  5. Ok just in, after a cracking wee night out with a group of mates who predominantly are not Celtic supporters.

Mostly motherwell fans with the odd hun or 2.

Was very interesting to hear their take on our new signings and those we lost…or nearly lost.

Joe? Away or still with us???

Al;most to a man, they believe that wee Leigh, will score a barraload in the SPL….without breaking sweat.

But they have doubts as to the, dare i say “next level”. I also share those doubts.

But unlike those “mates” of mine, I hope, unreservedly, that Leigh is a fantastic success in the CL for us and can take us at least into the Europa League last 16/32

  6. Turkeybhoy,

Agree with your sentiments, but they will just be crying all the way to the bank. Unfortunately, even the championship will still pay more than we can afford.

There you go, you post something other than a recipe for toasted cheese or a weather report and you are immediately accused (maybe only by innuendo right enough) of being pissed.

You post late at night and some will say your pissed because it is late at night.

You make a spelling mistake or two and you are again accused of being pissed because you made a spelling mistake or two.

You dare to have an opinion that differs from the majority… now you’re really pissed.

You try to encourage free thinking, you are now radically pissed and way out of order.

You dare to criticise an action or communication from Celtic, well now you’re pukingly pissed.

Don’t teetotalers have opinions have an opinion on here or have they too been ethnically cleansed…..

  8. A Ceiler Gonof Rust

    videos :-)

ethnic cleansing… can’t we at least have an innocuous eensy weensie genocide of the brown noses?

  9. OH! sweet peas and vinegar… I forgot a capital letter there in that last post; I wonder what step of the pissed ladder I now stand on.

  10. Delighted with the transfer window, big Kudos to PL in his very shrewed dealings.Great signings at a great price.I will give him credit were it is due.Always have done.

Now lets get down to giving the Ce;ltic support what they want.A unified support, with the GB in the new standing area, the stewards put in their place, and a statement telling us all they were not involved in the act to criminalize fans.In fact, against all proof to the opposite, they opposed it as they told us.I will give them undying credit if they do this and re-instate the GB.If not ,I will never give this board my full support. Many like me,and the crowds are showing this.

All the fans who said the drop was because of Xmas holidays, were are the crowds now.Bury your heads in the sand, but the crowds will continue to fall.We need a united fans front and PL is not giving this.

  13. Turkeybhoy,

As the concept of the GB is relatively new, how on earth did Celtic survive without them?

Not looking for any argument just an observation.

    HH.

  14. In my opinion, for what it is worth,PL has conducted a programme of “Ethnic cleansing”among the Celtic support. Many will say this is not the case, but I will rest my case on the crowds from now till the season end. Many disgusted by what has gone on,and the opposition can say what they like, the figures prove it,and they will only get worse.

Just what is PL trying to prove, because it is not working.

  15. Margaret McGill:

Well that’s a really hard question, while I ponder it I’ll just pour myself four fingers of vintage, I suggest you do the same.

Do you know what I wonder, I’ll tell you anyway, I wonder if all those who are awake and reading this are too pissed to pass comment. Now that’s got to be worth at least another two fingers, or three, consideration.

  16. Mags:

Whatever you do, don’t indulge analogies in your posts, if you do, and the meaning of which goes for a wee skite over the dome of the reader, then you’ll immediately be labelled a total roaster.

I will not argue with you,but the fact remains,Celtic Park was a morgue before the GB were instalked in their section. The old”Old Firm “gamesbeing the only exceptions.I used to stand in the “Jungle”and it was magic. The all seated stadiums have killed the atmosphere.Anyone going to Celtic Park now can see what is going on.It really is “Ethnic Cleansing”.I am at a loss to know why.As things stand at the moment,me and thousands like me in the “Jungle”would have been ejected, not allowed in,and banned. Its a disgrace.Maybe you dont agree with me,that is your choice, but look at the crowds. You cannot blame the lack of attendance on “Xmas, the weather, traffic, etc”We had all this before and Celtic Park was a great place to go to.Wasting my time ,because the mob will be on telling me all is well.Just like gullible huns with their heads in the sand. You know the ones they are always laughing at!!!!!!.

  20. In a previous life I once worked on the extension of the Peninsula hotel in Hong Kong.

There, I had the pleasure of working with a really funny Chinese engineer. One day during the monsoon he came into my office and said…

    “Your language is effed”

    In confusion I said…

    “Qh! How so?”

“Well lets take this word pished for example. Yesterday Matty said he was pished off. Today you said you were pished last night. Matty just told me it pished down all night and he was going to pish off early. You said the beer in Mad Dogs was pish and it really pished you off. So what exactly is the meaning of this word pished”

    To which I replied

“Yer just taking the piss now, so why don’t you just stop talking pish and pish off?”

  21. Kitalba,

    quick question:

Do you still equate the word “facetious” with “nasty innuedo”??

Do you support Celtic supporters and then Celtic

or do you support Celtic before you support Celtic supporters.

    That is the question.

  23. Turkeybhoy,

Thanks very much for your dialogue,

Much of the time when the ” Jungle” was there our average attendance was circa 26,000.

When Fergus finished we had 53 K ST holders, a waiting list and an average attendance of over 58K. No GB in sight, but did we notice?

    Nick Drake – Cello Song

  25. Turkeybhoy,

the jungle was indeed “magic” but please dont say it was the amazing “catch all” atmosphere that you seem to allude to.

There were plenty games back in the early 90s, when the atmosphere was pish. We all know that. A lot of us stood there and were part of it. Losing to Partick Thistle and

Falkirk etc in 1992/93/94 etc was no fun. But we did it. And a load of folk left early too.

But thankfully later years brought better times and better atmospheres.

It was a hard shift sifting through the last 3 or 4 pages.

Ethnic cleansing of the GB. You can’t be serious NA2, can you? Shirley not.

I think by using the term with such consistency, you do a disservice to people who have suffered real injustice.

    Facts facts facts.

Somebody, ryecatcher maybe, mentioned Walmart employees losing health insurance and PL being well suited to such an action.

Have a wee look at this

    http://washingtonexaminer.com/surprise-walmart-health-plan-is-cheaper-offers-more-coverage-than-obamacare/article/2541670

    Facts. Facts. Facts.

We are in a stronger position in the SPL than we were last year when we won the SPL with 79 points.

Already we have amassed 63 points with 15 games left to play.

What are the chances we will garner at least 17 points to surpass last years total?

Is that a valid measure measure of improvement?

Are we in a better personnel situation today, February 1st, than we were on January 1st?

I believe so, but it’s largely a matter of faith for now, as we won’t really know for another 8 or 10 weeks.

President Obama delivered his State of the Union speech to Congress during the week, and maybe Peter Lawell or Neil should deliver a State of the Club interview with Celtic TV to highlight our status and our plans to continue to improve the club, satisfy the fans’ aspirations and raise our stature in Scotland, Europe and beyond.
