Cadete scandal casts shadow

1236

Alexander (Sandy) Bryson has been mentioned in reports concerning another controversial matter in SFA history.  He was Head of Registrations when Celtic tried to register Jorge Cadete in 1996.  That case led to SFA chief executive, Jim Farry, being dismissed for gross misconduct after he failed to register the player in time for him to face Rangers in a Scottish Cup tie.

The Burness report into what happened noted that Farry “deflected responsibility to Mr (Sandy] Bryson (head of registrations] …. (on] certain executive decisions”.  In a contemporary article, Mirror Group Newspapers noted “it is unclear what part registration chief Sandy Bryson may have played in this debacle”.

  12. What part should sandy brysons testimony play in proceedings. What does it matter if there was an advantage gained or not.

rangers were found guilty of deliberately cheating and that should have been all that mattered.

You might as well have an ex pro say that the illegally registered players were not that good so no advantage gained.

Advantage should not even have been considered, and it’s as pathetic a get out as you could get.

All involved in this scam have poisoned scottish football.

Ive not been able to see the last few games, seems like Ambrose’s confidence has taken a knock after the failed rushing back onto the side v Juventus.

If dont need to we should not tinker with the centre half partnership, its no coincidence daft goals have been lost when we have changed it from Wilson and Ambrose.

The manager having went with Ambrose in the first Juventus game has to sort things out, its a problem of his own making.

Whilst all this feels horrific, rejoice in how good Celtic are at this moment in time!!!!!

  16. Why was he imprisoned in Peterheid??

The same reason as today. The most outspoken person today is only a smidgeon of the threat they were to the forces of finance in the early 20th Century, where the Federal Reserve established itself as a governing bank when it was nothing but a small group of bankers with no money, and no gold.

While you laugh or dismiss what I just said in that paragraph, take a step back and remember that your own grandparents were involved in the repercussions of this. Boys aged 14+ forced to fight the 1st World War on behalf of the UK while the same country oppressed Ireland to an extent that preceded Hitler in WWII.

    Re club staying silent.

Normally I would agree with you on club staying silent and working behind scenes etc. . I am not sure we could be silent behind the sense etc given vested interests of others.

I find myself wanting the club to voice a strong view, which I understand it really has, on this issue and wider scottish society but this need is out of my own frustration.

Always good to take time and think through our response anyway and not react with haste Hopefully PL and board will be doing that and hopefully our supporters will respect that.

Pperhaps best hope is how this result landed with fans of other clubs ? Any sense if outrage there ? Any chance of a Trumbull Huttin champion emerging ? Maybe such a catalyst might help put forward balance ?

A beautiful dawn over EK this morning with a pastel coloured sky. Dry, bright and just a fraction milder than of late. An almost perfect Big Happy Friday. But somehow, that description doesn’t quite fit this week.

I have been mulling over the issue re CFC comment since yesterday

I don’t think we can miscall the inquiry …I don’t think we can traduce LNS

However, in light if the report , Ogilvie must go now ….as a board member of oldco he is up to his neck in this …..CFC must demand his resignation

If we acquiesce is Ogilvie continuing in office we are condoning oldco cheating …

    Good morning CQNers,

I don’t believe I’m bitter, I try not to be.

I’ve always held the pessimistic view the Scottish establishment would not permit their club to be maligned but Paul67’s dissection of the FTT judgement over recent days gave me hope. Foolish me.

I’m 60 years old and this morning I’m saddened as I doubt I’ll be around long enough to see the denouement of this scandal. As in all these things where the establishment is involved it’ll be another 20 years before the truth emerges.

I see some knowledgeable posters are highlighting the linkage between LNS and the FTT decisions but this is a forlorn attempt to keep hope of justice alive.

This morning I accept his lordship’s decision, I accept it was made in good faith and I’ll maintain my stoicism.

I’m not bitter – my dear mother saw her 95th birthday and you never know.
