Cadete scandal casts shadow

1236

Alexander (Sandy) Bryson has been mentioned in reports concerning another controversial matter in SFA history.  He was Head of Registrations when Celtic tried to register Jorge Cadete in 1996.  That case led to SFA chief executive, Jim Farry, being dismissed for gross misconduct after he failed to register the player in time for him to face Rangers in a Scottish Cup tie.

The Burness report into what happened noted that Farry “deflected responsibility to Mr (Sandy] Bryson (head of registrations] …. (on] certain executive decisions”.  In a contemporary article, Mirror Group Newspapers noted “it is unclear what part registration chief Sandy Bryson may have played in this debacle”.

  1. Reading back and forth between here, Paul McConville’s gaff and TSFM, there is very much a commonality of disbelief at today’s nonsense.

Will tomorrow’s MSM capture this mood, the strength and depth of feeling of disgust at this absurdity?

“Guilty of cheating, but no advantage gained on the field of play”?

That’s a helluva subjective opinion from a Law Lord and I don’t think his footballing wisdom was called upon.

Sorry, didn’t mean to sound trite, but even the most eloquent attempts to make sense of all this are only emphasising how ludicrous it is.

  4. KK,

Another great post from you sir.

And there were some other wise points made today from the very few posts I’ve managed to read.

For me, a summary is, as I think several have made before me, CFC must comment on this and represent the feelings of the support.

Sadly I can also see the difficulties in this. To denigrate Scottish football can only lead to a further reduction in value due to the ever plummeting value of shares in any Scuddish football club which clearly relies on some form of hunnery, only because the establishment declares it so.

We can’t win unless we leave.

For me the only response from the Celtic Board to this must be blatant.

Otherwise, we find that the huns are costing us even more than every penny and every competition they already deprived us of in the last 10 years of cheating. This could easily decimate the support.

I wouldn’t be making this appeal, but would trust them to work in the background, if it weren’t for the treatment of our own support – this is also as big an issue.

At the moment, we’re giving a lesson to clubs on “how to lose a support in 10 days”. Add police harassment, possible board complicitness, free-style opposition cheating, and fine hospitality at the expense of extortionate shite food for the punters…can’t see how that’s a winning approach.

And aside of all this, Neil Lennon, depsite EVERYTHING this shithole has thrown at him, still delivers the goods. Best manager and best Celtic team I’ve seen in my lifetime (which goes back to the early 80s memory wise)!

We’re in a strange place. I’m not getting an ST or even single game ticket unless I feel we have a board backing the support.

  5. gerald766 @ 00:58

    Great post, sir.

(Any chance you get that sung to that flamin board?? All the Celtic Support need at the moment, (imo) is to know that those running Celtic are fighting our corner. But with the treatment of the GB and “suspected” GB, is wouldn’t seem so – more the opposite :((

  6. Mibbes Celtic is a wee learning curve for the new Federation Salmonite Praetorian Guard on how to deal with unruly demonstrations? They’re not so experienced up here as the Met – if Salmond was looking for home rule, surely consildation of the rozzers would be quite high up on his agenda-minimize dissent and bad publicity and what not, but at the same time keep them divided, eh. It worked for da Brits, should work for da Scotz, nein?

Ssh. Don’t say stuf flike that.

I and many other Timposters have been working tirelessly on FF to strengthen McMoist’s position.

Do you realise the hours of vigilance required to intercept Anti-Sally (see what I did there?) posts and counter with platitudes designed to appeal to the limbic core of the reptilian Zombie brain, usually along the lines of what a great ranger McMoist was/is/will be/Devil you know/rookie manager/pressure position.

Soon, when Sevco canter to their Sunday League title it’ll be easier to laud Sally as a record-breaking manager who always kne whow it would play out. Until then, please refrain from proclamation anywhere near the truth.

Be on message: McMoist is a talent. We are apprehensive regards his acumen being released unbound amid the cumbersome SPL.

Did you ever offer an alternative for the wee Tim from Timmy Timdom who kept pouring his money into the Club as it became a deformed PLC ?

    Not that I saw.

As a humble supporter, we had no choice to let this play out. Now the corruption’s been proven, the PLC are in the dock. (in my humble opinion).

Ok I thought the Eastleigh result would have been declared by now, so I am relying on BBC projections, Lib-Dems first, UKIP possibly second, Tories third, Labour fourth. Back in 1994 Labour, under John Smith, Labour came second in a by-election, and a certain Nigel Farage gained less than a thousand votes. Labour has only four MPs in the South, now given this result, where is the majority in 2015 going to come from?

  10. IMO it seems fairly obvious what Celtic should do. Simply ask for Ogilvie to resign. Obviously his position is untenable due to his previous involvement with a previous club.

This will send out a message that Celtic FC are not happy, keep the spotlight on the main issue of cheating, and flush them out of their comfortable “let’s move on” position.

I agree. Today is the day that the governors of the game of football in Scotland broadcast to Celtic Football club and all its supporters that ” We can do what we like to you and we dont care coz you can always leave coz you think youre Irish or you can come back for more”. The sad part is our club accept this. Can Celtic sue outside of Scotland?

  12. Imatim and so is Neil Lennon on

Some of us have been around long enough to not be the least surprised by this.

What’s more….by Chuckles clearing up the huns football debts I’m willing to bet there’s more hun friendly news on the horizon.

The SFA are a hun infested den of eniquity. We must spend nothing more supporting this bunch of corrupt, cheating, self serving scum.

No more attendance at Hampden or anything that contributes to the SFA….and that includes anyone who sponsors them…..and at the earliest opportunity we must leave this sorry hun loving football league

  13. Surely you want more than that.

It’s a given there’ll be some scape goat. Expecting Ogilvie’s resignation is like asking for Herod to give up his post just before he retires, while Satan gangs free.

  14. Partizan

Ogilvie’s work is done, there will be a couple of casualties this time.

I’m just wondering if the net is being left in the water a little bit longer.

ernie calls most things right and a British League is the logical progression as the EPL slips further down the tubes.

“in the twinkling of an eye”

And Celtic would be transformed to the Best in the World. ;))

  15. Mags @ 02:18

It’s the only issue most of us have ever had over the years. The role of the board.

On thinking about it today, will they take the hit of losing the hi-tech “aware” section and hinge all their bets on the DR readers that are left.

I actually dread but believe it could be the latter. The treatment of the support on going to games is testimony to that.

For me, it’s reached the stage, after laughing at JF for demaning a demo at CP during the Tony M years, …well you know.

You ask me, can Celtic sue outside of Scotland?. I think the PLC have the ability to action a thousand things in Scottish football, 3 times over, by taking it to local courts, European Courts, UEFA, FIFA, and possibly more. But they don’t as far as I know. We’ve given this board time in case they needed it. Nothing. But worse than nothing, it actually looks like they are behind the oppression of one of the most important parts of the Celtic Support in years.

We’re in a bad place all of a sudden. They need to act. I hope to God they realise how serious this is. A month ago, I was looking forward to commiting £600 to an ST – now I’t be MUCH better spent donated to some of those young boys in the GB who are having their futures comprimised if not ruined by the Salmond Praetorian Guard.

Doh! To answer your question, how the feck would I know? :))

  16. Paul67 et al

The votes are in, the people have spoken (don’t worry Paul I will not use the full quotation) and the Party many of here still have faith in received around 10% of the vote, whilst UKIP, were only 1700 votes behind the winning Lib-Dems. The Labour Party came second back in 1994, en route to power. Unionists on here need to take heed, nothing is forever.

This needs a rapid flooding ! Eg, Farry 10 years ago, Ogilvie now (if we’re flaming lucky). What next on that scale, Pat Nevin forced to retire in 2023 ?

This last few years, and now, is the time for serious action. Would wee Fergus have sat back in silence while this was going on, and fans were being intimidated out of even going to a game, to pay for the product he was trying to sell?

I’m gonna investigate shortly, and will let you know.

    Take care,bud.

  20. The Rangers seem to have won most of the issues recently. Now my mind moves to league reconstruction. I have some sympathy with the argument that rules/criteria shouldn’t be changed mid-season. So I’d be for status-quo this season, before any changes being up-front for next. My understanding is that Ross County and one or two others support this, for whatever reason.

Now the Hun argument thath them winning SFL Div3, coupled with reconstruction means they should be promoted efectedly 2 divisions to SFL1 (or SPL) is obviously bollocks. But as we have seen can not be discounted! And the PR campaign has already been in full-swing even before today.

So I don’t see why we the supporters (Celtic and all others) shouldn’t campaign for promotion and relegation this season staying as what was agreed before. So effectively HunsFC would be promoted to SFL2. This would negate the bleating of no promotion and playing same teams again. From start of season after we can then play for new structure of 12-12-28.

Rangers would be in SFL 2, and asuming they did well they could again get promoted and go from 3rd tier to 2nd tier. And in effect if they did well in play offs they would be back in SPL1.

Now, putting apart Uefa concerns and audited accounts, which lets face it will be circumvented, the Huns could concievably be back in the SPL1 after the SPL2

    playoffs.

Bottom line is they would be very lucky to get through these promotions and if they were they would be unlikely to make SPL1 split the following year.

Maybe |I’ve made some mistakes in my calculations, and sorry if so. |My point is just to show that a seemingly fair way for them to progress could be laid out, which might be a good counter to shoe-horning them quicker.

As an aside I’d love us to play them. St.Patrick’s Day Massacre would look tame.

We both agree on the seriousness of action required, it’s the tactics that maybe we disagree on. I think we need as many of the Scottish clubs supporting our actions as possible.

I honestly believe if Celtic had went all guns blazing and alienated clubs after liquidation then there’s a good chance Sevco would be higher than Div 3 now.

  27. There has been no response to my couple of posts. It is very early in the morning, and I am no longer a regular poster.

But while waiting for a response another thought has came to me. There wa some discussion while I was lurking about trying to sell season tickets games that holders couldnt make to others that rarely make games.

    |I wonder if any ideas ever made it to Celtic Park.

One of the reasons I dont contribute on here these days is I havent made a game this season. This isnt in protest at Celtic FC or heaven above because Huns ain’t in league. It’s purely personal reasons. I’d still like to come to a game, and bring my fiancee, just not been possible financailly and work-wise.

  28. SunnyBhoy @ 03:14

Not going to disagree with you there amigo.

We’re quick to assume that we’re the only club affected – although there is a good argument for that considering the parity between our clean team sheets and their dirty ones.

Your point stands, but of course it will need the rallying of the football support in Scotland once again to make sure their clubs do the bidding. I fear it won’t happen because, 1) that first time was a miracle, and 2) Celtic are the big losers in this, the other clubs won’t care. There are a thousand avenues for Scottish senior and junior clubs to go down now, the SFA and SPL were always going to take the hit. In a year, the SFA and SPL won’t exist – new body established, all parties happy….on paper.
