Celtic 5-0 St Mirren

1271

Celtic swept St Mirren aside this afternoon as a hat-trick from Gary Hooper and goals from Georgios Samaras and Dylan McGeough

Celtic came roaring out of the traps and blew St Mirren away this afternoon.  Georgios Samaras got the show underway on 4 minutes when he collected the ball after Marc McAusland failed to make a clean connection on the ball.  Samaras still had a lot to do and carried the ball into the box.  With defenders closing in from all around the Greek striker placed his shot instead of going for power.  St Mirren keeper, Craig Samson got a hand to the shot but the ball spun slowly towards goal and settled 8” over the line.

Four minutes later, a clearly confident Samaras drove into the St Mirren penalty box before cutting the ball left for Anthony Stokes, who’s fired cross was turned over the line from 3 yards by Gary Hooper.

Samaras was running the show but was hampered by a knock to the ankle which he took a few moments to recover from.  This coincided with St Mirren’s best period of play as the visitors gained more possession and territorial advantage in the period before half time.

Celtic started the second half just as brightly as they did the first as Hooper and Kayal could both have added to the score, however, the third would arrive 8 minutes into the second half.  Victor Wanyama played an excellent forward pass to Stokes who hit the goal line before cutting back for Gary Hooper.  Hooper collected with his back to goal but spun and shot in a sweeping move that left Samson with no chance.

Hooper completed his hat-trick on 57 minutes when he tried to play a one-two with Stokes but the ball was returned by a defender, allowing him to chip the on-rushing Samson.

18-year-old Dylan McGeough made his first impact as a Celtic player minutes after replacing James Forrest when he collected the ball 10 yards in front of his own box, ran 70 yards into the St Mirren box, before creating space and despatching Celtic’s fifth goal.  An unforgettable moment for the young player.

  1. If anyone is on a train around ayrshire look out for my mate vincent who will sitting silently with a massive smile on his face like the proverbial cat that got the cream!!!!!!

even better that it was me who sent him the happy news by text message

he was the one who reminded me to keep the faith a few weeks ago when lots were calling for lenny to be sacked and I myself was doubting him. when I asked the question who would replace Lenny, he told me that to lose Lenny now would be a travesty and a bodyblow from which we would not recover!!!!!

I know we are still behind but the momentum is swinging in our favour and we are truly hunting them down!!! Now keep it up Lenny and keep our team motoring along, we may not even be in top gear yet!!!!!

    Tee hee

Mibbees Aluko was a wee Dons plant.

Heard the goal on Radio Scotland with David Begg – well I say heard but I had to turn the volume right up for a good 30 seconds or so before I could make out what words he was choking on and mumbling.

“Aluko will be getting his money back…any more of that – ha!”

Does that mean you are now making a judgement on him?

  6. What a great weekend to be a Tim.

An excellent performance allied with a tremendous support (led as usual by the GB) reminded me of our best european nights . The support have backed the ‘Fans against Criminalisation’ campaign and as a result that’s spreading to the team , imo .

Sammi set the tone yesterday and was pleased for him when he was subbed to warm applause .

The ayrshire result today was just the icing on the cake – let’s look after ourselves first and if we do the business over the next 3 weeks (DU , Jamtarts and StJ) then they have to do the same NOT to risk losing top-spot when they come to see us on the 28th.

On a final note , thank you to everyone who sponsored me for the leg wax last night. TTTT , I have video evidence , taken by mini-sanna that I uttered not a sound throughout the entire time !!

Thanks to Lisa from Alternative Therapies for donating the waxing materials and Lorna and Sam from Eden Therapies for donating their time and sense of humour !

Trinder , Griffin , The Cutter and Liffey from CM also took part and , while we’re still totting up the proceeds , it looks as though we’ll have raised over £1000 from the night.

Thank you all so very very much. As I’ve said before , we’re just the ‘point-men’ for a wonderful Celtic Family and this wouldn’t be possible without the support and encouragement we get. Hail Hai.

PS. On a final note , I’ve been asked about the absence of the banner yesterday . It’s quite simple , the wind was so strong ,it actually whipped the banner back up into the top-deck where it hit a 405 resident and knocked his specs off ! Discretion being the better part of valour , we took it down before we got sued ! Thanks BJMAC !!

No judgement yet…except..he’s not a defender!

I still think he has a decent touch and turn of pace – could be a nacho – bitpart novo type player for them..I’ll make my judgement after 6 starts – if he get them!

Me I would just be embarrassed for being a surrender monkey.

  13. Shocking news about Gary Speed. Hard to take in. Always a 100%er and a very good player on his day. Seemed like a decent guy too. You just don’t know what is going on inpeople’s lives.

If you do nothing else today, be kind to someone.

  14. PF – re “seany”,

Cheers, I think he has some real talent which is rarely seen and long may that continue.

Just happened to be in William Hill while the match was still in play. Now the reason I was in there was to try and put a bet on the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award, to be announced tomorrow. Among the cognoscenti it is known as the “Bookie Prize”. Anyways, they would not let me put a bet on it, but for the record my choice is; ‘Racing Through the Dark’ by David Millar. Whilst in there though the odds on Killie winning went out to 8-1, with Rangers at 17-10. You gotta take the 8s haven’t you? And I did! Well done the Ayrshire boys!

And while your on I’ll ask you again – if our club had the brass neck to ask an unemployed footballer to stump up £50,000 of his own money in order to sign a six-month contract with us – would you be moking Celtic for that?

  18. A Son of Don,

I think it is wrong and is a measure of your financial health or lack of ambition – for the Huns it;s the former – had it been Celtic it would hve been the latter.

Given the Hun’s financial position I still think it is a shrewd move.

  20. Just in from a long walk with the dogs. Logged on and couldn`t believe the score. I thought the temperature had dropped somewhat. —4 ya beauty.!!!

  22. Anyone else catch David Tanner trying to reinvent Sonny Aluko at half time, as if he is a brand new player and not the one who had played for a rank Aberdeen team for the past 4years (minus a quarter of this season when he was unattached and training alone before Rangers ‘swooped’ for him.

At half time, he turned to Neil McCann and asked him how he felt Shonny Aluko had played in the 1st half

Well David, it seems your Shonny has forgotten what the offside rule in, in the time between training for mighty Juventus and Rangers ‘swooping’, because he held his arm up to claim for offside at Kilmarnocks goal when he was STILL the last man!!!
