Celtic-City partnership brings Roberts to Glasgow

497

Very pleased we have signed Patrick Roberts (18) on loan from Manchester City for 18 months. A few quick observations on this signing:

He’s another wide attacking player. I’ve lost count of the number of wide attacking players Ronny has signed but it’s far too many. Only Stuart Armstrong has come close to making regular appearances. This means we are still short of suitable options here, so need to recruit for the position, and that we have made a number of serious oversights.

The ideal signing is a loan with an option to buy. Next is a straight purchase, then a loan without an option to buy, but the market is changing.

I mentioned last month that as a consequences of the uber-rich hoarding players (Patrick is a case in point, £12m for a player who will be peripheral for years), mastering the loan market will be a key element to enable clubs to over perform.

Celtic appear to have struck up an understanding with Manchester City, one of the richest clubs/biggest hoarders in world football. There will be rich pickings here. Such was the demand for his signature, Patrick wouldn’t be near Celtic Park unless on a loan.

Jason Denayer’s time at Celtic worked very well for Celtic, the player and City, which is why we were able to secure Patrick for 18 months. More of this kind of thing, please, Celtic.

Welcome to Celtic, Patrick.

  1. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

    Kazim Richards… More shit in the Ciftci/ Cole/ Bangura/ Balde / Pukki..mould

    Do these clowns learn nothing

Non scoring strikers don’t score for a reason … They can’t score goals

  2. Kazim Richards has never been a striker, a shit winger but not a shit striker, I feel this needs to be pointed out so that those who like to berate the club can get their diatribes prepared in the correct format :O)

  3. So let’s see yet another transfer window closes and the yawning chasm in the middle of the park has not been addressed.

Instead we have added yet another small lightweight winger and yet another alleged striker with a goal to game ratio that makes Tony Cascarino look like Jimmy McGrory!

All this on the back of yet another failure at Hampdump when we came up well short of the might of Ross County!

Despite Paul’s best efforts on behalf of the powers that be at CP, the rank and file of the support know that Ronny is not up to the task in hand.

He might be able to wangle a Man Citeh reserve on loan but he will never lead us in to the CL unless we get a bye through to the group stages.

Watching the shambles that we are that is probably a blessing in disguise because a really good team could take 7 or 8 off the present squad!

I think the point you make regarding the Development squad and the Scottish Cup.

What kudos does a Scottish Cup win bring, now that the treble ‘dream’ has be squandered for another year?

Play the youngsters against EK, and if we win, thereafter in subsequent rounds, albeit with a couple of experienced first team additions – players like Allan, Christie, Janko, Blackett….etc.

As previously stated, nothing can be taken from granted in the league – perhaps a defeat on Wednesday will concentrate minds.

Another winger, just what we need ;-)

I heard he’s to replace Paddy Roberts on the wing in Ronny’s best 11 :O)

    What is Foster on about?????

He’s said the right thing for Celtic fans but not Rangers fans.

What would you expect? He’s going to Celtic ya clown!

After today’s 3 – 0 victory over Sevco, our development squad top the league with an amazing record of 14 wins and 1 draw from their 15 games, with 36 goals scored and only 6 conceded.

I know it won’t happen but I think they would be good enough to beat East Kilbride in Saturday’s Cup tie.

They’d get their bottoms spanked by EK :O)

OK I’ll send the mighty Spartans over expecting victory – again ;-)

We should not underate East Kilbride I remember when we played Whitehill Welfare we were expecting to score a barrow load but struggled to win 2-0 at Easter road in one of the worst games I have ever seen. H.H.

  11. Mr Pastry,

I also believe in playing youngsters in both domestic cups. However against EK , Ronny will play the strongest team he has available. You’ve seen the reaction to defeat against Ross County, can you imagine the reaction to anything bar a convincing win.

    So can Ronny.

    HH.

PS: I have always thought that our quest for a treble is actually hampering our youth development.

  12. what you heard catman

    about that dudu dadan

and the guy who drives the parks van ?

  13. Croppybhoy , you are spot on. Its alarming the number of chances we concede in games. Against slightly better opposition we would be on a real hiding!

Name a defensive minded midfielder who can help the defense out – we leave our back 4 completely exposed. I’d like a better right back and another midfield player who can actually win the ball and get it to our players (a lennon type would do).

Liked the look of the big Dane – a born leader too!

3-0 but you’re right, crazy how little fans understand the difference between amateur football and the top leagues.

Even Celtic playing against 11 players with 10 is hard as f**K so many on here know nothing about football

Partick Thistle on verge of getting Celtic kid Aidan Nesbitt on loan. Not over line yet. That should be a cracking signing for Jags…

Aiden Nesbitt going to Thistle on loan (from KDS rumour thread). Good move for him

    Noooooooooooo

    Not now celtic.

i had a wee dream the bhoy would burst onto the scene before the end of the season if leigh has any suspensions, kinda like charlie nic.

unless we have another striker in, please dont do it.

  19. Goodbye Aiden Nesbitt.

Your future at Celtic has just ended.

    Shame but not unexpected.

It’s what we do with good young prospects, usually.

  20. Evening Timland from a cool hun free mountain valley.

So the window will slam shut in a few hours, are we stronger, you better believe it, Cifcti is gone.

This is the same Cifcti that was supposedly RD’s no one target, so much so that he hardly played him and sent him away on loan, 1.5 mill down the drain.

As for Richards, I will bet by last penny that RD has never even heard of him, well done JP.

O’Halloran to the huns, why oh why would you sell your soul.

  21. Going out on loan for a few months won’t do Nesbitt any harm at all. It will toughen him up. Will be interesting to see if he get’s a game.

  22. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

That Foster is one irritating little shirt.

Aye – CG throws the RC player out of the way and the ref DOESN’T give a penalty and send him off??????
