Celtic-City partnership brings Roberts to Glasgow

497

Very pleased we have signed Patrick Roberts (18) on loan from Manchester City for 18 months. A few quick observations on this signing:

He’s another wide attacking player. I’ve lost count of the number of wide attacking players Ronny has signed but it’s far too many. Only Stuart Armstrong has come close to making regular appearances. This means we are still short of suitable options here, so need to recruit for the position, and that we have made a number of serious oversights.

The ideal signing is a loan with an option to buy. Next is a straight purchase, then a loan without an option to buy, but the market is changing.

I mentioned last month that as a consequences of the uber-rich hoarding players (Patrick is a case in point, £12m for a player who will be peripheral for years), mastering the loan market will be a key element to enable clubs to over perform.

Celtic appear to have struck up an understanding with Manchester City, one of the richest clubs/biggest hoarders in world football. There will be rich pickings here. Such was the demand for his signature, Patrick wouldn’t be near Celtic Park unless on a loan.

Jason Denayer’s time at Celtic worked very well for Celtic, the player and City, which is why we were able to secure Patrick for 18 months. More of this kind of thing, please, Celtic.

Welcome to Celtic, Patrick.

Your point was that Ronny doesn’t know “his best 11″, you’ve contradicted yourself each time by constantly posting about Johansen not being good enough “in your eyes”.

    ======

Players are being accomodated where it is not merited. eg Johansen yesterday, Armstrong on the wing like the classic square peg in a round hole.

McGregor and GMS are in and out, flavour of the month then banished. Why does the same rules not apply to the likes of Johansen when on the available evidence on the pitch he has been FAR from one of our best 11 players for an extended period now??

    ———-

Because Johansen is in Ronny best 11

Pellegrini in the hunt for four trophies yet he’s told he’s getting bagged at the end of the season.

He should tell them to GTF and walk tonight.

Yep football and its instant gratification is at an all time low.

I wonder how any fans lived thru the old days when you could go years without winning anything trophy. Why support a team, why not just support the team at the top??

  3. Where did sevco get the money? Transfer and wages? i assume he is going for a bigger wage etc?

50p a letter for his name on the back of a jersey is a nice money spinner though…….. as If any of them would have such a Timmy name on their back!!!

I’m sure that if the ‘youth for cover’ was a possibility Celtic would be only too glad to use it, rather than spend.

The sad fact of the matter is that is shuffling the seniors or bringing more in is the only viable option.

If anybody was good enough they’d be old enough ala Keiran Tierney.

    The huddle,

I earnestly hope Man City win the treble and make the board/owners look like balloons.

  6. where is Janko? Lustig has been horrible for weeks and Janko looked decent earlier in the season.

  7. The Michael O’Halloran Sevco deal is on the never, never, with less than £300k up front.

Spare change for big football clubs, prized next year season ticket money for Sevco, but don’t let that get in the way of SMSM heralding it as Warbsmeister magic.

    Tony,

    Easy get out.

    The old diddy cup scenario.

An excuse for a pathetic team. That wan’s played out.

  9. Yesterday was a kick in the teeth from a gutless team and what seems to be a befuddled management team.

How many more of these are we willing to take?

Will we dribble away the league title over the next couple of month?

On Sunday we were outfought and outmuscled, just as we were last year against ICT – on each occasion it was apparent that our opponents wanted it much more than us – I find that pathetic.

Let’s face it, those kind of performances mean that we are firmly ‘in the pack’ and are not ‘head and shoulders’ above other clubs in Scotland, even with our tremendous financial advantage.

Where is the progress with Ronny, on the park, or in his transfer dealings?

There appears no ‘rhyme nor reason’ in his dealings and they are HIS dealings.

It appears to me watching the window developments, that all clubs around us are strengthening – common sense says that things will be tougher in the second half of the season and if yesterday’s display is anything to go by, then NOTHING can be taken for granted.

  10. Till later all.

last time i enjoyed a transfer window was robbie keane.

    but WE’LL SEE

  11. This “partnership” between Celtic and Man City (or as CQN calls them… ‘City’) is great! We are becoming like a genuine feeder club for them. Perhaps we could get a friendly organised against them? Not on their main stadium of course, but maybe a bounce game at their training ground or something? It would be GREAT experience for our lads, and ‘City’ could use it as a practice session for one of their games against the likes of WBA or Boke.

    (Sorry I mean Stoke.)

  12. See John Terry is looking for a club. Maybe a seasoned pro like Terry could sort out our defensive issues. I read somewhere recently that he is an admirer of Celtic.

You support Celtic not Celtic European champions, some fans need to wake up to what supporting a football club means.

We aren’t a club that mean anything to world football, that’s highlighted big style by this article, a team like Man City who’s fans once never dreamed of winning a European Cup are now expecting it and sacking managers that don’t achieve it.

  14. “Except of course there’s documented proof of KC and AS doing just that. That’s not to say it would happen again”

    Weeminger,

Yup indeed. But the fact they didn’t do it before the one occasion and haven’t done it since says to me there’s more chance of it not happening than happening.

Stokes away for being a trouble maker. Kazim Kazim potentially in despite being a trouble maker..

    Wtf?

  18. Long haired yins man – where you hearing this and for what reason would it be called off?

    Transfer deadline day.

In my house, that means Smiths records and vast quantities of sedatives mixed with vodka.

A gruesome day. Life is too short to watch GMS, Cifci, Richards and the other duds.

  20. CultsBhoy can not relate to Celtic Board ambitions on or off the park on

This transfer window has seen Stokes and Cifcti out on loan and a loan in. Hardly an endorsement in Deila… Could the Board be keeping the pennies for a new manager?

After today’s 3 – 0 victory over Sevco, our development squad top the league with an amazing record of 14 wins and 1 draw from their 15 games, with 36 goals scored and only 6 conceded.

I know it won’t happen but I think they would be good enough to beat East Kilbride in Saturday’s Cup tie.

  25. Stairheedrammy on

A reasonable couple of signings with the young winger looking good in short you tube clips and Richards scoring and rumbling defenders up at a higher level than the SPL. Some real nonsense spouted on here wondering why Armstrong stayed on and McGregor went off. Having watched our last few games where we played some lovely stuff Armstrong was far more effective than McGregor in each of them. That lovely fitba was also the reason KC is unlikely to get back in to the first team for a while. We have a new CH, which we needed, a CF, which we needed, a winger, which we didn’t really need, and we could still do with a defensive mid, though will that be Broony?

Oh, forgot about Christie, one of the most promising talents in Scotland. It’s an eye opener how the media have manipulated what is an average SPL level forward into a superstar, even in the eyes of some Celtic supporters. OHalloran is at his level, never good enough for us.
