Celtic deliver Sviatchenko below radar

485

18 days into the transfer window we’ve landed our first business, 24-year-old Danish international central defender, Erik Sviatchenko, joining from Danish champions Midtjylland, who are due to compete in the Europa League knock out stages next month.

On paper this one ticks all the boxes. The player has been tested in a league a little stronger than our own, and in Europe this season, where Midtjylland eliminated Southampton, Bruge and Legia Warsaw. He will add security to the back line in the chase for the treble, and will be ready for Champions League qualifiers in August.

Ronny Deila now needs to make sure Sviatchenko and Simunovic form a proper defensive partnership – something we’ve lacked this season. Pressure will now mount on Efe Ambrose (27) and Dedryck Boyata (25) to up their game if they are to force their way back into the team. Both are in their prime years, but older than the two I expect to keep them out.

I’ve been shouting for a defensive mid for two years, most noticeably on Friday night, when Dundee United ran straight up the middle of the park to score, but we’ll see what shape the team takes after the addition of Erik.

I think Celtic should also be congratulated on getting this business done below the radar until close to the finish line. We’re involved in lots of transfer speculation at the moment but don’t spend your time researching every name that pops up. There will be five players linked to the club for every prime target.

Welcome to Celtic, Erik.

  4. “Oooo suits you Sir!” Says Erik, our now resident fashionista.

The CQN Magazine article reporting his interview brought up a few points:

Our squad, since Sammi joined the Sassenachs (I use that word to solely irritate Ernie Lynch) has been sadly lacking in the flowing locks department. Happily nae mair.

Young Armstrong now has competition for the title of squad brains trust. Sounds like Erik can hold his own in multiple languages an awe.

Strikes me that Erik has a mind of his own, and as a lad who obviously identifies with edgy trend setters, will no doubt be a favorite of the GB instantly.

No doubt Erik will be opening up a boutique in the Italian Centre, in partnership with Mrs Lustig in no time. Whit? 50 quid for a pair of socks?

    Hamiltontim,

I’ve had responses on the OBAF Act petition from Shona Robison MSP and relevant minister, as well as a couple of others. I think I still have your email address – want a look at them? I must respond to Ms Robison as her letter contains a number of inaccuracies, so any input would be gratefully received.

I probably never had any exchanges with TD. ( That I can recall) and I suspect he would have had no time for my Ronny out stance, but he obviously pressed a lot of buttons on here as a lot of people seemed to be gunning for him. What ever the rights and wrongs of his hunt down like a slave comment ( and it was a bit crass) I have seen and read far worse on here. However he used one expression in one of his last posts before he was deported to Devils Island or Van Diemens Land or possibly The Louden Tavern ( or wherever it is that cqn sends it’s convicted felons) AND that was Drama Queen. Plenty of them on here. Myself included.

Re TD67’s sabbatical or whatever,I feel that as a happy clapper myself that some of the opinions and ‘solutions’ from those not of the happy clapper members are somewhat over the top. However, I also find thatTD67 launches tirades at all who have a less than 100 percent ‘faith’ in the present incumbents. He may think he is the one ‘in the right’ but it is only an opinion. The problem with him,I think, is total disregard of all other opinions. The only comment I have ever made about his posts is ‘you don’t half talk some mince sometimes’.Personal slurs should never be used as they only demean the argument and the person using them.Maybe we should all count to ten,or,have a wee sip of the lager before we post!

    Re JF and cars.

Doc told me to open car door and back in, bum on seat Knees together and feet still on ground.

Then swing legs and feet into the car, still together.

Not sure that I’d agree with that completely.

Certainly the SNP were mentioned frequently but only because they are the party who introduced the Act and they remain the only political party to support it.

In addition it’s widely known that there seems to be a ‘no breaking of ranks’ amongst their membership, in particular, MPs and MSPs.

With the upcoming local elections it makes sense to put as much pressure as possible on those within the SNP who are in a position to affect change in regards to this legislation.

    All I could find:-

“The 26-year-old was part of the AIK team that recently won the double in Sweden and can also play in midfield.

Hooiveld told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted to sign for a club of Celtic’s stature.”

And he added: “Celtic has a magnificent history and is a club with great tradition and great supporters.

“Having visited the club and spoken to the manager, I feel this is the right place for me and I am very much looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and hopefully playing my part in bringing success to the club and our fans.”

Hooiveld has returned to Sweden and will be officially unveiled by Celtic later in the week.”
