Celtic deliver Sviatchenko below radar

485

18 days into the transfer window we’ve landed our first business, 24-year-old Danish international central defender, Erik Sviatchenko, joining from Danish champions Midtjylland, who are due to compete in the Europa League knock out stages next month.

On paper this one ticks all the boxes. The player has been tested in a league a little stronger than our own, and in Europe this season, where Midtjylland eliminated Southampton, Bruge and Legia Warsaw. He will add security to the back line in the chase for the treble, and will be ready for Champions League qualifiers in August.

Ronny Deila now needs to make sure Sviatchenko and Simunovic form a proper defensive partnership – something we’ve lacked this season. Pressure will now mount on Efe Ambrose (27) and Dedryck Boyata (25) to up their game if they are to force their way back into the team. Both are in their prime years, but older than the two I expect to keep them out.

I’ve been shouting for a defensive mid for two years, most noticeably on Friday night, when Dundee United ran straight up the middle of the park to score, but we’ll see what shape the team takes after the addition of Erik.

I think Celtic should also be congratulated on getting this business done below the radar until close to the finish line. We’re involved in lots of transfer speculation at the moment but don’t spend your time researching every name that pops up. There will be five players linked to the club for every prime target.

Welcome to Celtic, Erik.

  1. Evening Bhoys.

Been off the blog for a couple of weeks following the death of my Dad.

Just wanted to thank again to all the CQNers who posted words of comfort.

You cannot believe how much that meant.

Watched the game on Friday night and it brought a smile to my face.

    Good old swashbuckling, cavalier Celtic.

My Da would have loved it!!

We may have our wee squabbles on here but believe me Paul has created something wonderful.

Celtic supporters to me are the best in the world, bar none.

My Dad jealousy guarded our reputation, our heritage and our very foundations.

We all have a duty to protect it.

    It means so much.

    Thanks again ghuys!

Not sure about Efe as a DM. Not sure he is switched on enough to what’s going on around him.

For any supporters going to the game tomorrow night travelling from Rutherglen or Cambuslang direction , there are roadworks and temporary traffic lights on the junction of Dalmarnock road and Springfield Road.

I travelled past the stadium on my way home , the pavements and paths approaching the stadium were clear of snow. The pavements either side of Springfield Road were also clear of snow.

I liked Erik’s answers in press conference today , he spoke very well . Unfortunately, we might not see him playing for a number of weeks as I believe he was in pre sason training with his former club.

If you’re looking for tickets at a reasonable price for the game v Dundee on 2nd March, give me a shout. I’m sure we’ll have a few spares on our bus for that game, good seats an aw.

Canalmar/ TD’s disputes. Minds me of Doiuf/Broony when the heat got to much they had to get the teacher sfa referrers/Paul 67 to hand out yellow cards. TD will bounce back just like Broony. Let’s all do the broony/TD

  9. Was in town on Saturday picking up some brochures for the centenary celebration of the 1916 Easter Rising. Neither a commercial tourist office nor the state tourist board had any leaflets. I did get brochures from Sinn Féin and will gather as much info as I can from the various groups planning events for people coming over.

I found this clip on YouTube, it is James Connolly’s grandson speaking at the launch of Sinn Féin’s programme of events:

Exactly my point, too many in here have been too tense as they expect to be attacked verbally and often personally.

Many are now lurking as a result.

I overheard a sev i know talking to some other sevconians about Celtic loaning Hibs. Liam, Stokesy and John McGinn to stop them winning the league.

I know we do our transfer dealings discreetly but not that discreet that us signing John McGinn from St Mirren then loaning him to Hibs has never reached the public’s attention.

I never had the heart to tell him, John McGinn, signed for Hibs from St Mirren.

  15. Time will tell if Sviatchenko is a good signing or not. How long will depend when RD decides to play him. I have never heard of him so I am not getting excited about his form. Still he will not have to be too good to be better with who we have got in defence at the moment especially Boyata.

Would love Efe to do the business for us. Sadly I think the fans have decided he’s a liability. Any minor mistake is meet with groans. The last game at Tynecastle he got abuse coming on the park.

  18. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Nice to see the article in the evening shark jump where Leigh is very supportive of Efe .

Efe has made mistakes , not as harmful as made out, and its nice to see our top player at the moment sticking up for his team mate. A good sign of team spirit in the squad.

From this morning re James Forrest and Sciatica.

Read sometime back that the club got his car adapted so he didn’t have to put undue tension in his legs when driving and they also made him get an automatic car.

It all ties in with what Lenny said and what you have heard, never had it masel, but the wife gets in sometimes and to see a grown woman in tears with the pain, and I can’t do anything to help is no the may west.

    Anyway……..chomp…….lets get back……..slurp……..to the foxes……..gnorf……….debate.

    Sorry………sqidge……….I’m eating…….dribble…….grapes as I……..slurp……….type this.

To say that all foxes are vermin is a bit over the top as far as I’m concerned. Mr Green, the betting site owner, or indeed, Basil Brush have neither killed a chicken between them as far as I know. I’ve never even seen them eating a chicken supper with salt and vinegar, a couple of pickled onions (30p a go noo) and pickled beetroot. To tar ALL foxes with the same “brush” (see what I did there?) is taking things too far. Anyone disagree?

Guys, personal abuse cannot be allowed on the blog. I’ll pull any account reported until a standard of conduct is agreed. Same goes for baiting users.

  24. I’ve posted this before but I am doing so again for anyone who missed it.

January 14 I ended up blootered and my memory only kicked in when I got out of a taxi at the brazen head… why I don’t know as I live in Motherwell! ! Was an all day shot at hospitality in Parkhead then the toon afterwards…

Anyway I realised I’d lost my phone. When I went into the brazen both TD67 and Masty were absolute ghents in true Celtic fashion. .. the sorted me out and got me a taxi home… jeez they even managed to get the barman to serve me a pint… no mean feat the nick I was in.

I don’t always agree with his views on here but that is how I remember both TD67 and Masty. I think some should remember that being 68 and being from the gorbals he will have a certain style that may not always fit the narrative of the PC world we live in today. Also so much of intention is lost in type and open to our own interpretation of how we read posts in our own mind.
