Celtic deliver Sviatchenko below radar

485

18 days into the transfer window we’ve landed our first business, 24-year-old Danish international central defender, Erik Sviatchenko, joining from Danish champions Midtjylland, who are due to compete in the Europa League knock out stages next month.

On paper this one ticks all the boxes. The player has been tested in a league a little stronger than our own, and in Europe this season, where Midtjylland eliminated Southampton, Bruge and Legia Warsaw. He will add security to the back line in the chase for the treble, and will be ready for Champions League qualifiers in August.

Ronny Deila now needs to make sure Sviatchenko and Simunovic form a proper defensive partnership – something we’ve lacked this season. Pressure will now mount on Efe Ambrose (27) and Dedryck Boyata (25) to up their game if they are to force their way back into the team. Both are in their prime years, but older than the two I expect to keep them out.

I’ve been shouting for a defensive mid for two years, most noticeably on Friday night, when Dundee United ran straight up the middle of the park to score, but we’ll see what shape the team takes after the addition of Erik.

I think Celtic should also be congratulated on getting this business done below the radar until close to the finish line. We’re involved in lots of transfer speculation at the moment but don’t spend your time researching every name that pops up. There will be five players linked to the club for every prime target.

Welcome to Celtic, Erik.

  1. Will the departure of Naismith open a door for McGeady to get a place in an Everton starting eleven?

Or will he need to look outside Liverpool for some games to stake a claim in the Irish squad?

Ok, I didn’t attribute your adjective in any direction. I asked a question. Maybe your anti-Catholic posts are something else.

    Oops, my bad

I’m happy to know that you pay attention to outsiders who take an interest in our club. The 10% of us they own represents about 3% of their uk equity fund and an infinitessimal element of the entity.

I’m suspicious of all outsiders having a piece of the Celts.

The thrust of this post is inappropriate. I travel to Celtic Park and away games by bus or train and don’t have the resources to buy my way out of the close I’m typing from.

I put Lindsell onto the blog as a warning to Celtic fans to be alert to institutions who could potentially apply pressure to declare dividends on the plc’s ordinary shares.

    Good memory all the same.

  5. Margaret McGill on

I mean I know as in I understand and thank you for the warning. We should all pay more attention in who invests in Celtic.

I recall your post, as one who appreciates history, particularly the history of the recorded written word, it struck a chord with me. I have no doubt your quote will be found in the wonderful Mitchell Library that a certain Mr Speirs used to frequent to read the annals of Scottish fitba journalism.

I have watched with interest as the divide and rule traditions of the deid club have been kept on life support by the contemporary Scottish/British Media, political, legal and banking Establishment. I have watched with keener interest/disappointment/hope as to how our PLC react to this.

    Yes, its a long game….

    Too long for some.

But the day will come for those that hope for Truth.

Mr TD seems misguided. He might be a respected auld haun, but when he posts on here he is quick to break rules of respect when communicating with others in this forum of a Brave New Media. ‘Big DJ’ is an auld haund of the auld media. TD has done to CQN what Big DJ did to Scottish Fitba MSM. We have moved from annals of history to anals of history.

Its not about being politically correct. Its about respecting those who have pertinent questions. And replying to them rationally and respectfully. I may disagree with you on your view of TD, he may well have a history that is worthy of respect, but in this Forum,in the 21st Century, when obvious questions need to be addressed he needs to be more diplomatic.

Its a Brave New World after all.

We are all searching for Truth. It will out in Time. To be negative, aggressive and dismissive about legitimate questions sounds just like Big DJ on Clyde. It is the antithesis of what CQN was originally all about. Objectivity leads to Truth.

Not blind allegiance and ridicule of reasonable questions and reasonable avenues of enquiry.

In this Brave New World of the Internet everything has changed….

The way we communicate, the way we investigate and the way we propogate our evidence.

Mr TD considers anyone who questions the PLC as the Enemy. He signs off with a GIRFUY. Of late that has been directed at not just ‘Lurking Huns’ but those who question the PLC and its policy. This is not productive. It is divisive, at the very time we have a world wide web of educated, informed, bampots who can bring light to all, Celtic fans and fans of other clubs, Light that the MSM appears designed to snuff out.

I hope TD recognizes that the medium is the message….

    Roll On CQN

    Productively….

It was meant as a compliment for your previous post on being tolerant and understanding of fellow fans and posters, even, nay particularly, when you have a different point of view.

Too often posts and opinions are dismissed solely on the poster’s history, religion, political opinions or their old school.

Personally I even go out of my way to be patient with people who didn’t attend St Pat’s Coatbridge.

  10. I was taught that not only you had to be patient with former pupils of St Pats Coatbridge, but that in the long run it would be worth your while.

In Kearny there’s a butcher shop, Stewart’s, which has:

Pies, bridies,, sausage rolls, square sliced, black pudding the new super food, tatties scones etc.

    http://www.stewartsscottishmarket.com/default.asp#.Vp2gsHo8KrU

I highly recommend the Irish bacon.

If you don’t want to drive there, the easiest way is a Path ride to Harrison and either a bus or taxi all the way up Kearny avenue.

A wee bit back down the avenue there’s a fish and chip shop with a Scottish souvenir shop attached.

There’s also an online order company in Piscataway. I’ll check their url whenever I remember their name. Age doesn’t come alone.

I find looking is easier on the waist than eating.

My wife served me a bacon and egg roll Saturday as my once a month bacon treat.

One slice of Irish bacon only.

It will be Lent before it comes round again. So will be off the menu.

I lost 35 pounds just over a year ago. It was easy.

The better half cut out red meat, sweets, sugars, snacks and cut down portions.

I was smiling as I was reading your post, until I got to the last line. That certainly caught my attention!

Sorry to hear about your heart attack …. hopefully you are feeling much better now.

Sounds like you have a lovely lady looking out for you. I think it makes a big difference having family who support. Fortunately, I am similarly blessed with a lovely lady who looks out for me as well..

To that end, I was going to do a barbq cooking class, but recently switched over to a vegetarian cooking class instead… hopefully, it will give me a leg up in the CQN competition!

I think I will bookmark this post, so, when I am feeling like cheating on my ‘diet’, your post will certainly inspire me to keep going! Thanks for that.

    Hail hail

I think a diet has to be an individual thing.

I call mine, well my wife is the real creator, the Three Fs diet

    Fins, feathers and fruit.

My wife is an excellent cook and she has become more adventurous with spices.

For snacks we use avocados to make fresh guacamole and fresh tomatoes to make salsa.

We have at least one NO meat day with ratatouille, bean chillis, home made tomato basil soups and of course the old favourite Scottish vegetable soup.

Vegetables especially tomatoes, peppers, onions, carrots etc make up a big proportion of dinner.

Fortunately we love garlic and use it every day.

Pork and red meat are for treats only.

I had beef bourgignon on Christmas Day as my meat treat. Easter will be the next time.

No more ice creams or apple pies.

She tells me it’s worth the sacrifices.

  18. mike in toronto on

GG …. all sounds quite delicious! And believe it or not, for dinner tonight, I sauteed some kale with tomatoes, and made a big pot of scottish vegetable soup!

was at a few vegan restaurants in montreal last week … and had one of the best BLT’s I have ever tasted…. and it was vegan (dehydrated eggplant as bacon) …I’m trying to recreate it… if successful, I will pass along the recipe!

Better take the dog for a walk before I head to my bed.

    Pleasure chatting.
