Celtic deliver Sviatchenko below radar

485

18 days into the transfer window we’ve landed our first business, 24-year-old Danish international central defender, Erik Sviatchenko, joining from Danish champions Midtjylland, who are due to compete in the Europa League knock out stages next month.

On paper this one ticks all the boxes. The player has been tested in a league a little stronger than our own, and in Europe this season, where Midtjylland eliminated Southampton, Bruge and Legia Warsaw. He will add security to the back line in the chase for the treble, and will be ready for Champions League qualifiers in August.

Ronny Deila now needs to make sure Sviatchenko and Simunovic form a proper defensive partnership – something we’ve lacked this season. Pressure will now mount on Efe Ambrose (27) and Dedryck Boyata (25) to up their game if they are to force their way back into the team. Both are in their prime years, but older than the two I expect to keep them out.

I’ve been shouting for a defensive mid for two years, most noticeably on Friday night, when Dundee United ran straight up the middle of the park to score, but we’ll see what shape the team takes after the addition of Erik.

I think Celtic should also be congratulated on getting this business done below the radar until close to the finish line. We’re involved in lots of transfer speculation at the moment but don’t spend your time researching every name that pops up. There will be five players linked to the club for every prime target.

Welcome to Celtic, Erik.

  1. Agree 100% with recent posts about need for a holding midfielder . We can sign whoever we like but without that security and stability we will remain a team with a soft centre. I’m sure Ronnie is aware .

Read earlier post about Dickie Wilson vis-a-vis our new bhoy’s injury predisposition. Another blog ( think e-tims) got tore into Jingle-Jangle Jackson earlier for another in his long line of pathetic articles.

Tony Donnelly has the heart of a true Celtic man.

He acts as anyone of us hopes we would when someone or something we love is under attack.

Sometimes, although his heart is where it should be, is mouth sometimes wanders.

There are people on here who think it great craic to wind up other posters.

Canamalar is one of those, but he is something of a sacred cow on here and is tolerated beyond what should be acceptable.

Most people ignore him in attack mode, but that is not in TD’s DNA and he responds.

There are many lines crossed on CQN now, which would not have been tolerated when the blog began and for the first couple of years of it’s existence.

That is a pity and it is that laxity which has brought us to now when there is an almost daily ruck of some sort, by anonymous bullies and cowards.

My pet theory is that there is so much latent anger at the corruption in football and all the legitimate targets, SFA, SMSM, etc, are teflon coated.

That anger has to go somewhere, so, much of it has been directed towards our own club and some of it towards each other.

All of it should be directed at Hampden, but, hey, that might mean actually being proactive against the SFA, especially with cup ties coming up an’all.

Keep up your good Celtic heart, Tony.

    TTT..,

Why you bringing me into it, I’ve nothing to do with him having his account pulled, I’m no the ying to his yang I’m nothing to do with him except I have suffered his abuse from the day he started posting. Something you probably enjoyed going by that post.

The fact is I do not care enough about him to be bothered if he got himself banned so won’t be commenting on it.

I will be commenting on anyone who thinks its fair game to blame me or drag me into it.

For those crowing over Tony’s so called sabitical he has not been banned by Paul he is just taking a couple of days off, let crowers keep crowing, there seems to be a split blog concerning this, most acknowledge Tony could have used better terminology but the witch finders jumped straight in

Agree with much of what you say.

However, when shove comes to push, and it will, our club will be seen to be very much part of the unsavoury SFA.

Have you seen or heard anything to persuade you of the contrary?

Good post, I reckon a lot of on here have posted something out of order.

I did when I wasn’t long on and got lampooned for it by a few, others saw the funny side of it.

Tony D can be a cantankerous old git but has our club at heart, I don’t agree with a lot he posts, especially his attack on HT.

    TET,

That’s not really relevant, except to give perhaps a reason why it is personal.

I didn’t think that there was any future inRES12 until Auldheid, BRTH, etc., became involved; and to be fair, I think Canamalar was of the same opinion, which is to his credit.

I think they added credibility to what I considered the proper way to tackle the SFA.

You may recall reading a post of mine, way back around 2012, when I argued that Celtic, as a club, were restricted from tackle their Association.

My hope was for a wealthy, shareholder, with no other connection to the club, to take an action against them.

I had the litigious Denis O’Brian in mind.

I thought it would take a big hitter in order to gain any leverage.

However, that does not excuse the grudge that you are suggesting, manifesting in such an unseemly manner.

    Masty,

I said he lived with his mother and she was doing a grand job caring for him, what’s your point ?

Paul67 did not pull his account because of that so why are you insisting it is relevant ?

His account was pulled because people took offence to his boast the he would “hunt them like a runaway slave” but you know that and still try to involve me.

Saint Stivs and GOOGYBHOY. Fellas have we not had enough in fighting recently ? I thought we had a common interest in Celtic which would bind us together but it appears im wrong again. H.H.

  16. Thom

I never had a prob with TD till he started accusing me of being a CT groupie and calling me a clown, gloves were then off, that’s all from me re TD.

I remember you talking about that and I’m surprised that he didn’t get involved, we are talking serious money we have had stolen from us, business men of that caliber letting that go without a word is a surprise to me.

FWIW, I reckon Res 12 will prevail, the fact the club are backing it helps.

    Quonno,

Unfortunately, I’ve heard nothing to suggest what the final outcome will be.

I have a great deal of sympathy for the club’s position, which comes from years of witnessing how the club is perceived and portrayed in the media and establishment in general. They have the megaphones.

Could Celtic have put them out of business? No, only themselves did that, then the establishment gave them the kiss of life.

Could Celtic have stopped them joining the SPL? Yes,they did, along with other clubs, but not alone.

Could Celtic have helped them into the SPL for next season? Yes, they could have, if they loaned them some players. We loaned Hibs Henderson and Stokes.

I think that we are powerless to stop them.

I don’t think that there is any force in the country willing to stop them.

The SFA/SPFL have open their doors and their rule books for them.

The totality of the media are launching missiles on their behalf on a daily basis.

They are waltzing through one court case after another, as if Perry Mason is sitting in their corner.

All this is being done while they haven’t twa bawbees to rub together.

And yet, the question still gets asked, what are Celtic doing about it?

It’s the paying customers of Scottish football who have the power to do something about it.

  21. Canamalar

I am already on record as saying he should not have used that terminology, but you as far as I took your post as mocking him for living with his mother at his age, oh and by the way he does not live with his mother.

Precisely what I would expect from someone of your obvious integrity and intellect.

The horde of those who have unceasingly targeted Tony and have baited him have done so with impunity.

Tony, like any good Tim,reacts accordingly and unfortunately sometimes goes over the top.

I suppose we must accept that the one who retaliates cops the red card.

I wonder ,however,if Paul is aware of this sequence of events.

The problem,of course,is a system where Paul apparently acts when a complaint has been made.

  27. Evening all, just a wee observation that the gulf between the ramblings from Scotland’s “sports journalist of the year” compared to the internet bampots has never been so wide since ,well ,eh 4 years ago.

This time we even have a blue nose (John James) added to the usual bloggers calling out Keech.

    JFH,

It matters not a jot how you see it, the words are all there, well except one of his threats of physical violence, Paul67 deleted that, from then on it became a wee bit pointed but the Jist of the digs were as I stated above, I mocked him and he became more violently vitriolic.

You were in about and mixing it and know exactly what went on, I did make a point of correcting your misrepresentations at the time. I won’t be wasting any more time on that mistake after this.

I won’t be speaking about or too him again, I did try a while ago but he couldn’t stop himself having a go at me and dragged me back into his vitriolic rants and I fell for it.

    It won’t be happening again.
