Celtic fans impact in Liberia

capture-20170530-221909Mary’s Meals were in touch with photographs and information from the Sean Devereux Primary School, Montserrado County, Liberia, the seventh school we have funded through Mary’s Meals. We started to raise money for this school at Christmas. Each school day, 253 pupils are fed a vitamin-enriched meal, paid for by you.

Liberia has chronic problems, exacerbated by the recent Ebola outbreak. Only 38% of primary aged children attend school, largely as a consequence of the economic necessity to work in order to eat. The meals you provide address this central problem, but importantly, it ensures children attend school for what is often their only daily meal. This access to education provides life chances which carry decades worth of benefits.

Daniel Folley, deputy head of Sean Devereux Primary, said, “The school’s population has increased [because of the Mary’s Meals kitchen], and academic performance is at a peak. Hunger used to rive children down, when teachers used to speak, they were not paying attention. Now they are able to learn more.”

In 15 years Mary’s Meals has grown from a shed in Scotland into a force which feeds over 1.2 million children each day. As they work in the poorest areas, your money goes far. It costs an average of just £13.90 to feed a child for an entire year.

The other big reason we like Mary’s Meals is that 93% of funds raised reaches the recipient. The organisation runs on just a 7% overhead, which is exceptional in the aid sector.

Online communities get a bad press, but you share this blog with a lot of great people.  See below.  This is how it feels to be Celtic!

  5. Headed off to my last day in school today (still have two days ‘work’ to do) and stopped off at the gas station to fill up for a long journey tomorrow. €55 later, I realise I filled the diesel tank with unleaded. Drove off to school to be told by experts that I should have left the car at the station. the AA levied a €300 tax on my stupidity.

But do you know what? This tune is still ringing in my ears since the weekend:

Funnily enough, the last time I was in, I met him and Steph Graham. Eddies older brother Jamie is my mate. He’s in Perth, Australia.

You keep well Mark and I’ll tell Gerry and Frank you’ve been in touch.

  8. Aberdeen players have an ingrained losing/bottle merchant mentality.

Hayes, at 29, is too old to have the Derek Mcinnes factor coached out of him.

He won’t improve our first eleven. He won’t even improve our squad.

    Christie is far more valuable.

That’s true, but his performances on loan put him ahead of Henderson in terms of being given a chance next season. I would even accept that Christie could go, but I certainly don’t believe that should be to pave the way for Hayes.

Hayes would be a signing on par with David Fernández…

  13. We are just taking the smsm word that we are in for Hayes, it goes against how the club operate, the media are usually the last to know who we are in for.

If we do sign the boy he will get 100% backing from this Tim, maybes Brendan thinks he can make the boy a better player, we will find out soon enough.

  14. CALLEYROADBHOY57 – think me and my ozzy mate had a few drinks with you and your son outside an Irish bar in Lisbon last weekend. If I recall you were a late arrival on Sunday!

Hope you are all well and enjoyed the weekend half as much as i did.

  15. thetimreaper on

My theory is that Hayes has told Aberdeen he wants to leave as he wants one last big contract. Cardiff and Birmingham are sniffing around as well as others. Either the player wants to move to Celtic (if you can beat em, join em) and has asked his agent to put the feelers out and/or his agent is using Celtic via the SMSM to drum up interest in his player. If we are interested i don’t think he is a replacement for Paddy. That will either be Paddy himself or another player. I trust Brendan’s judgement either way. Between him and Lee Congerton they must have a plan.

  16. calleyroadbhoy57 on

I think Brendan has earned our trust. For me, he hasn’t done too badly up to now. Even Doris De Vries was a very astute signing IMO. He was brought in to put pressure on Craig and to train with him and now you see how much his kicking has improved.

    In Brendan we trust

    HH and goodnight.

  17. Hayes and Christie play in different positions. Hayes, if he signs is because Roberts is going back to City and GMS is in all likelihood leaving.

Christie won’t get a chance as BR obviously thinks Rogic, Armstrong, McGregor are all ahead of him in attacking midfield role.

I don’t think it’s one or the other, if the manager thinks Christie has a chance of making first team then he won’t be sold. If he doesn’t then it probably makes sense to use him in a deal to get a player he wants.

  18. TheLurkinTim on

True…but this Aberdeen team have been well coached….;-))

Forrest. Look at the League Cup final – Forrest had Hayes pinned back into a full back position.

Also, I think we are focusing a lot on Roberts lately, Forrest was first choice for much of the season and probably had his best season so far. That’s all forgotten because Roberts shined so brightly in the second half of the season.

  20. On transfers and for what is worth I hear, Hayes, heard it’s good as done. He’s replacing GMS. I understand we were feeling positive about Roberts coming back. We also have our eye on 4 first team ready players. Expect some movement out also..

Roberts will go down to the wire. We wanted someone that can play straight away. Rodgers knows and rates Hayes. Christie, I don’t know.

Just what I hear and not from anybody’s Granny.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

Hayes would be a signing on par with David Fernández…

Or Barry Robson? Or Paul Hartley?

  22. I’d select them in this order in terms of this season’s performances

    JF

    JH

    GMS

RC plays a different position, plays it really well and hasn’t yet had the run of games with us to establish himself. I fear he won’t. I have the same fear for LH. Two Bhoys who’ve done nothing wrong but for whom timing and fierce competition may conspire against them.

    :)

    Exactly.

A signing from another SPFL club being successful is 50/50, but in general low risk.

  28. Wether he signs or not, forget the nonsense,Johnny Hayes is a very good player.

Nothing against the boy,but Ryan Christie will hardly get a look in at Celtic this season. He needs far more experience.Another loan deal would be great for him.See how he performs consistently for a full season.
