Celtic hire The System

726

It was (honestly) a complete coincidence that at the start of last week I wrote that football clubs need “people who can say to the manager, “A club in Romania is doing something really clever, we should try it”, without being frog-marched off the premises”, a few days before Celtic employed a GAA coach as a performance consultant.

Organisations who succeed actively look for development ideas from unusual sources.  If you are fishing in the same pond as everyone else, you’ll not find a strategy that will allow you to over-perform.  Jim McGuinness, coach at Donegal GAA, will work with Neil Lennon’s technical team two days per week.

McGuinness had transformed Gaelic football, since taking control of unfancied Donegal they have been described as “virtually unbeatable”, provoking astonishment and some hostility from those close to the game as a result of his tactical revolution, known as ‘The System’. For his sport, he has found the ‘Moneyball code’ and the metaphorical answer to ‘Why England lose’, which we have discussed here for a number of years.

In short, Jim McGuinness sees things that others don’t and Celtic know the value of new ideas. I’m pleased at both.

  1. For those who thought the money for KI was good value yesterdays game sums up what we are missing in midfield.

We have a host of players who can stop other teams playing but players who can create are few and far between.

Ki was sold as there was not going to be enough meaningful games in the SPL to warrant turning down £6 million I’m not saying it wasn’t good value, but he was never replaced.

Commons does not do the same job, gives the ball away too much and makes bad judgement decision.

Paddy needs serious coaching, he can play a pass but prefers to go on a mazy run until he runs out of options. Maybe if he stood in the centre circle and dictated play he would be more value to the club. Of course people will say that we would coach the good stuff out of him!

Ibrahim has been signed on a 3 and a half year contract in January, how many minutes has he been on the park?? Is he another that is that bad we will never see him, ala Blackman.

Kayal, the sensation of 2 years ago cannot even get in the team any more even when Brown is unfit.

Young McGeogh would appear to be the future but when will he get his chance?

Yesterday was summed up for me when we took a quick free kick which Samaras managed to engineer all the way back to Foster from inside the St Johnstone half.

Can I make a suggestion: why doesn’t someone from the CST take a DVD copy along to the AGM on Friday – and slap it down on the top table and ask…………..

I can’t see many troops participating in Walk On or Just Can’t Get Enough at Parkhead.

Those in attendance were actively involved in the ‘Bouncy’ and will most probably have volunteered for duty at Ibrox on Saturday.

the gates do inform the club that the fan has arrived.the stewards then have a word with the fan and tell him unless payment is made he or she wont get in to anymore games.

it happened to a mate of mine about 4seasons ago.

there used to be about 16 of us in 2 rows and for the most part we just sat in any seat.

stewards came up to my mate and asked him if he was such and such .

    no he said

but your in his seat said the big guy.

at which point he was invited down to the concourse for a further chat.

meanwhile the real culprit sat laughing on row back.

I agree with your post 100%, they have no shame, never ever have had., to be associated with them in any form is to disrespect everything our club stands for, and the sooner the suits accept this the better.

I would have thought a letter saying ‘from such and such a date your season book won’t allow entry unless payment is received’ would have done the trick. Maybe that’s too simple.

  24. tigertim,

Couldn’t agree more. We are lacking a Ki like player, someone who can make an incisive pass. I said as much last night. I was against our selling him, because I could see we would be crying out for him before too long. I’m sure he’ll be an outstanding success at Swansea.

Was the original point that people were being removed ?

It’s hardly a friendly word chucking someone out if they’ve travell from near and far as you put it.

Also a lot less embarrassing if the turnstile simply does not let them in, they can always head round to the ticket office and deal with it in private rather than public humiliation of being hunted by stewards, no ?

Cardihun gets anonymity – provided he coughs up the outstanding tax due.

Charlie does a Hughie Green double your money and try to get rich (an old TV game-show) offer to him as a NED (non-executive director).

His tax liability = shares in their new issue (takes his dough + profit) for helping to front the CG sales pitch (X’000 gullible bears x £500 donations).
