Celtic hire The System

726

It was (honestly) a complete coincidence that at the start of last week I wrote that football clubs need “people who can say to the manager, “A club in Romania is doing something really clever, we should try it”, without being frog-marched off the premises”, a few days before Celtic employed a GAA coach as a performance consultant.

Organisations who succeed actively look for development ideas from unusual sources.  If you are fishing in the same pond as everyone else, you’ll not find a strategy that will allow you to over-perform.  Jim McGuinness, coach at Donegal GAA, will work with Neil Lennon’s technical team two days per week.

McGuinness had transformed Gaelic football, since taking control of unfancied Donegal they have been described as “virtually unbeatable”, provoking astonishment and some hostility from those close to the game as a result of his tactical revolution, known as ‘The System’. For his sport, he has found the ‘Moneyball code’ and the metaphorical answer to ‘Why England lose’, which we have discussed here for a number of years.

In short, Jim McGuinness sees things that others don’t and Celtic know the value of new ideas. I’m pleased at both.

    Paul67,

So the sfl and meeja are complicit in fabricating a story to manipulate the market and encourage the up take of a share flotation, publicising a proposal that has already been discredited must be a bit dodgy surely.

The team of “the people” basically bankrupted the game here just to get one over the tims

I have seen a bit of Jackson Irvine, a superb prospect, Ibrahim is making the bench regular enough, throw him on, he obviously has what it takes.

I still remember his antics when we had the league trophy presented last season, he was amazing, he really enjoyed it, he gets it.

    Jude…,

We’ll see, we’ll also see if Paddy wants it enough,

I also have a sneaking suspicion the powers that be don’t like the support he gets from the crowd which may be another negative for him to overcome, especially the Fenian army stff.

Shame about your Mrs not being able to attend.

I’m just home from a fundraiser for a Scottish senior football club function.

At that dinner I was able to speak to someone who has up close and personal ,first hand experience of Paddy.

He told me that Paddy’s problem was fitness.

He said his skill was up there with the best, but that he had abused his body bevying in the earlier days of his career.

The result is that he can’t be trusted to play wide , because he doesn’t have the stamina to track back.

He said that 20 mins was his limit.

He told a personal story about how poor Paddy was when asked to do stamina training.

Aye the Mrs is a tad dissapointed, but can’t be helped, the lassie’s family comes first, as we all know and understand.

    andrew67,

We discussed his stamina earlier, his only run of games 11 proved to me and many others that neither his stamina or defensive duties were in question, both statistically and physically.

In fact his defensive nous surprised me on the number of times he made winning tackles in our box and came out turning defence into attack.

Stamina for me, is an easy sop that has persisted only because that is what we’re told to believe.

The problem with child abuse is that its almost universal and endemic, no country, idealogy or religion is exempt

It seems we are guilty in varying degrees

Of course if you erode the rights of children the grown ups make money
