Celtic hire The System

726

It was (honestly) a complete coincidence that at the start of last week I wrote that football clubs need “people who can say to the manager, “A club in Romania is doing something really clever, we should try it”, without being frog-marched off the premises”, a few days before Celtic employed a GAA coach as a performance consultant.

Organisations who succeed actively look for development ideas from unusual sources.  If you are fishing in the same pond as everyone else, you’ll not find a strategy that will allow you to over-perform.  Jim McGuinness, coach at Donegal GAA, will work with Neil Lennon’s technical team two days per week.

McGuinness had transformed Gaelic football, since taking control of unfancied Donegal they have been described as “virtually unbeatable”, provoking astonishment and some hostility from those close to the game as a result of his tactical revolution, known as ‘The System’. For his sport, he has found the ‘Moneyball code’ and the metaphorical answer to ‘Why England lose’, which we have discussed here for a number of years.

In short, Jim McGuinness sees things that others don’t and Celtic know the value of new ideas. I’m pleased at both.

  1. Kev, Maybe Lenny plays Joe, Kris & Charlie because they are bloody good players who have served us well for the last couple of years. The 3 of them were magnificent against Barca and if they were not up to scratch against St. Johnstone, they were not alone.

I wonder if they do presentation certificates suitable for framing?

I think it would go rather well below my framed 1994 Celtic share certificate from the issue that enabled us to pay our debts and avoid a similar fate.

  7. Reconstruction- does anyone know how many people work for the SFA SPL SFL and why we need 3 organisations in Scotland?

  8. What jursidiction does the SFL have over trhe SPL? None.

They are paid a stipend of TV for allowing the SPL to be broken away from the other clubs.

Therefore what makes the SFL believe that they can have any league reconstruction at all?

They maybe able to change Div 1,2,3 but the SPL will only accept change when they wish, not when the SFL says. Therefore any talk of reconstruction is only talk, and everyone knows it.

Maybe the question that should be asked is whether or not Charles Green represents the SFL here or is he misrepresenting the SFL by words and actions and as such should be on a disrepute charge.

  9. Don’t often agree with Craig Broon, but he had point WRT the two “colt” teams joining sfl3. He was asking why just Celtic and thems, and not Aberdeen or the Edinburgh clubs. Surely an SPL team should be asked before some zombie diddy team.

Also think it would be interesting to hear a Celtic rep’s take on it as it would be strange if they hadn’t been consulted before going public.

Or maybe we should just ignore it for the pash it is.

Why have one team in the league with no accounts when you can have two.

A 100x full size Companies House copy Liquidation Certificate would be the proverbial dog’s bollocks of a banner.

  14. Regarding Craig Broons Colts teams joining the league comments, were Aberdeen not one of the team to shut down the reserve league as they could not afford the upkeep of running a reserve team.

The reserve league in Scotland became under 20’s and development squads as there were not enough teams to form and play in a league every week.

  15. Wtf do they put in the water in New Stevenson?

Anyone questioning Joe ledleys contribution should drag themselves away from their pc. Step over the cans of piss that have accumulated and go to Celtic park and watch the guy.

Jl is very similar to NL when he played. You have to see the whole picture and not some wee square box that follows the ball to fully appreciate his contribution to the game.

  16. Kev jungle, what a lot of nonsense. So kris common’s is part of an untouchable clique? Was he not bombed out for nearly an ENTIRE season due to poor form?

  17. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion Kev but if you do come up with a fairly outlandish contention then you do need a lot of hard facts to back it up. I was a bit surprised myself with Lenny’s selection for last Sunday. I thought the obvious thing would be to start with the lads who had the least game time against Barca. I thought Kayal was a defo and I thought Sammi looked knackered against Barca so I expected him to drop to bench & Watt & Miku to start up front. However Lenny sees the entire squad on a daily basis, he watches them train, he knows a lot more about them then you or me. IMO he is a bloody good Manager and I trust him.

  19. Southside

Agreed – struck as strange that SEVCO reserves would be involved before other SPL teams. It would be hilarious though when the reserves overtook the first team – maybe then they’d realise Sally ain’t no football manager.

  20. Joe Filippis Haircut on

My opinion on Paddy for what its worth is that he has had his day at Celtic he has failed to make the break through to becoming a first team regular.I have no idea why that is other than he is not quite good enough, why he is idolised by some Celtic fans is hard to see? I think he should be looking to move on to a club where he will get a first team game and Celtic can have a few quid to put towards another youngster .H.H.

  21. Corkcelt, correct. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

It’s the attention seeking opening gambit that irks most peoples imo.

  22. Will any journalists ask Smith if he has been given or promised sevco shares for his support?

It shouldn’t really bother me but the msm are complicit in sevco fans being sold what will in all likliehhood be worthless shares.

More fool them but it will mean about £600k leaving the Scottish economy never to return.

Kev Jungle and Andrew 67 – really terrible posts- who needs enemies…..

  23. Gene's a Bhoys name on

I wonder if we will see a copy of the liquidation certificate with a cracked crest in tomorrows MSM

I see greengo is engaged in desparate ‘board’ appointments, to further dupe the fans into believing THE are still the old club ……. The share uptake forecasts must be pretty poor..

strange that he is bringing in a guy who contributed greatly to the demise of a former club …. Good thinking, batman…
