Celtic hire The System

726

It was (honestly) a complete coincidence that at the start of last week I wrote that football clubs need “people who can say to the manager, “A club in Romania is doing something really clever, we should try it”, without being frog-marched off the premises”, a few days before Celtic employed a GAA coach as a performance consultant.

Organisations who succeed actively look for development ideas from unusual sources.  If you are fishing in the same pond as everyone else, you’ll not find a strategy that will allow you to over-perform.  Jim McGuinness, coach at Donegal GAA, will work with Neil Lennon’s technical team two days per week.

McGuinness had transformed Gaelic football, since taking control of unfancied Donegal they have been described as “virtually unbeatable”, provoking astonishment and some hostility from those close to the game as a result of his tactical revolution, known as ‘The System’. For his sport, he has found the ‘Moneyball code’ and the metaphorical answer to ‘Why England lose’, which we have discussed here for a number of years.

In short, Jim McGuinness sees things that others don’t and Celtic know the value of new ideas. I’m pleased at both.

Paddy has done many 90 mins without dying. Drink would only be a problem if he was still doing it.

Paddy’s difficulty is that he hasn’t convinced NFL that he is better than others in the. squad.

For me, he loses possession in critical areas too often.

    He wasn’t drunk.

    He wasn’t questioning Paddy now.

He was telling me how he was at Rochdale ,and he genuinely believed that he was paying for it now.

He also said he was a smashing lad and that his skills ,were up there with the best.

Possibly someone wanted the topic to die.

Incase I am weak ,fold and name my source to try and gain some credibility.

    I won’t.

My post went too. Normally if it was Paul who deleted them then you are given a reason.

  5. Bolton are vital to a strong EPL. The rules will be changed to allow them to survive in a new form and the leagues will be reconstructed to allow them to retake their rightful place in the top flight.

That’s how it usually works, isn’t it?

There is nothing derogatory in my post about Paddy in his time at Celtic.

I was given a reason as to why he doesn’t get more game time.

I was told his skill was not in question, but excesses in his earlier career meant that his body would not allow him to reach a certain standard of fitness now.

I actually don’t think that it is anything that most of us haven’t heard before.

    Good morning fellow Celts

Players having a bevvy – shock horror!!

It’s been happening for donkey’s years and some of the most revered players in fitba history struggled with the oul’ Don Revie and the dubious delights if the bright lights…

They still played if they were good enough. So the issue seems to be that Paddy’s undoubted ball skills and footballing vision is not fully appreciated by successive Celtic managers

We could get into hours of chat on why that may be the case, but let’s not be blaming the bevvy …it comes down to ability to make a significant contribution to the team performance.

I would play Paddy from the start in some games at CP – tell him to fill the mighty hole in front of the massed ranks of SPL opponents and find a way in. Play him until he get knackered. Game should be won by then. Last Sunday would have been an opportunity and case in point.

Significant number of fans happy – simples!

I heard the disappearance of the posts is Paula Broadwell threatening messages to the moderators. She allegedly said :back off my Paddy, you Poppy Tempests.

As your reply to me was lost to the ether would you mind reposting or paraphrasing.

Also your blog name is newish.

What was your old blog name

  11. Caught up on Youtube with the H/T display at Ibroke on Sat

Is that how you pay respect to those who have fallen? a rabble running around a fitba pitch……………………..

IMO their was Sectarian undertones to some of the behaviour displayed by present serving MOD personnel, certainly the MOD need to reflect on what took place at the bigotdome

League reconstruction back on the pages of the MSM

Who will front up the proposals for league reconstruction? SFA and SPL discredited

Chuck says that the SFL are good guys, the MSM tells us the SFL are good guys, they are, aren’t they………. step forward Longmuir to front league reconstruction proposals, the SFL website has no news or details on these proposals, just whose is pushing the this agenda for league reconstruction to allow Sevco back.

  12. Champions league returning…debt-free club….140 year history…Walter back…league reconstruction…..orange poppies….blah blah…

Is there a share issue coming I wonder?

  13. lionroars67

Every hurtin’ dirty stinkin’ hun still in a position of power and corruption within the national game at a rough guess, Saturday’s “display” at the Bigotdome just confirmed their descent into even deeper extremism, they must not be allowed to destroy our game…

    Liquidation for Sevco please..

  14. lionroars67

Longmuir & co can try as hard as they like with their aim of trying to get SevCo back in the top flight asap

It will fail. The SPL clubs will boot these proposals into touch and the fans of the majority of Scottish clubs will not stand for it

    Except Kilmarnock of course :)

  15. I live near Paddy. I could chap his door and find out the truth. I could ask the searching questions like “How come you don’t sit in the conservatory where I can see you on my way past.?” or “I’ve never seen you having a kick about with the kids in the garden what’s that about?”

  16. Whatever the reason for Paddy McCourt’s failure to hold down a regular place in the team, I cannot see that change any time soon. He has all the skill in the world but he is never able to sustain it for the whole game. 20 minutes seems to be the most.

  17. Morning CQNer’s

Now, what I’m about to say may not sit too well with most folk on here but none the less, I feel that it has to be said. I won’t be surprised if some heat comes my way but you know what, I’m not on here to win any – popularity contests – nor do I have any – vested interests !

So, here goes…Sunday’s result v’s St. Johnstone is what we can expect at CP from here on in, imo ! The reason why this is so is because…in Celtic’s dressing-room, you will find a clique, driven by cronyism, consisting of – Kris Commons – Charlie Mulgrew – Joe Ledley and headed by NFL !!!!

No matter how inept the performances of these thee players…they just seem to walk(unchallenged) straight back into the team.

This reminds me very much of the situation that, the late TB was confronted by when he took over the reigns at CP and had a decision to make regarding the failed central midfield axis of – the Maestro and Peter the Pointer. A CM pairing that had consistently failed for the previous five years and which led to the hugely talented – John Collins – having to play almost like a maverick. imo

As history will telly you….TB failed to make the correct call and paid the price for it.

Now the thing is…will NFL continue to accept the less than acceptable performances from the three players mentioned ? Or, will NFL get it right by dispensing with the – wee gang hut culture – of the dressing room and turn it into a, place were productivity is a must ?

Furthermore…I think it’s time we had an Alan Sugar type of person running ‘our’ club instead of those who are consumed by personal bonus.

    Rant Over.

I’m still waiting for the “decent rangers fans” we hear so much about making themselves known and challenging the EDL like direction their club seems to be taking.

They must be forming themselves into powerful action groups to stop this disgusting theatre going on as we speak, they are aren’t they all those decent bluenoses that people talk about.

All joking aside that performance at the Redneck Ranch at the weekend is sinister in it’s conception and execution, I would love to know who is the driving force behind that???

  23. Greetings from a very wet & very windy Tipperary, where my Golf outing has been cancelled, which maybe is just as well considering I couldn’t hit the ball out of my way yesterday. I agree with Joe that ye have been a bit hard on poor old Andrew. When Paddy was playing League of Ireland over here, the issue of his stamina and ability to perform for 90 mins was a regular topic. Now I must say that maintaining that this is a result of the guy permanently damaging his body through boozing at an early age sounds totally nonsensical and I most certainly wouldn’t believe that.
