Celtic hire The System

726

It was (honestly) a complete coincidence that at the start of last week I wrote that football clubs need “people who can say to the manager, “A club in Romania is doing something really clever, we should try it”, without being frog-marched off the premises”, a few days before Celtic employed a GAA coach as a performance consultant.

Organisations who succeed actively look for development ideas from unusual sources.  If you are fishing in the same pond as everyone else, you’ll not find a strategy that will allow you to over-perform.  Jim McGuinness, coach at Donegal GAA, will work with Neil Lennon’s technical team two days per week.

McGuinness had transformed Gaelic football, since taking control of unfancied Donegal they have been described as “virtually unbeatable”, provoking astonishment and some hostility from those close to the game as a result of his tactical revolution, known as ‘The System’. For his sport, he has found the ‘Moneyball code’ and the metaphorical answer to ‘Why England lose’, which we have discussed here for a number of years.

In short, Jim McGuinness sees things that others don’t and Celtic know the value of new ideas. I’m pleased at both.

Firstly….Four-Star Army General Carter Ham,of the U.S. ‘Africa Command’ ,Is Relieved Of His Duties….

Allegedly,at the time of the Benghazi attack,he was prepared to countermand orders from above (From Obama/Panetta),and mount a rescue effort to save the US staff at the CIA annex….

His Second-In-Command intervened at that point, and relieved him of his duties..

    Anyway – Murdo’s stellar management career ?

I suppose the same thing could be said about Wim ?

But, lets remind ourselve’s that – the REAL reason both

Murdo & Wim were removed was because

    Fergus backed Jock Brown.

  4. Welcome aboard Jim McGuinness.A win win for Celtic.A leader of men whose skills will have an exciting impact in turning our Bhoys into Men.One way I was impressed with Jim at Donegal was the way he turned a team of individuals, ranked 22,oft criticised for the way they played the game into the’Donelona’ winning side of 2012,

Jims teams learned quickly and learned well.

Good Luck Jim and a welcome hail hail.

  8. I very rarely post but I am a constant lurker. I just want to quickly share an observation from the game on Sunday. It was the end of half time break and Danny McGrain was collecting the balls used by the subs. The St Johnstone team were coming on the pitch and the number 7 for them made a bee-line for McGrain. The St Johnstone player patted McGrain on the back and shook hands. It was clear he was delighted to meet a Celtic legend.

I had a look on the St Johnstone website and they have a link for their Polish fans. It seems that the Perth club is keen to attract the local Polish community to their games.

Angry Palmeiras fans have vandalised and set fire to their own club’s shop as the threat of relegation increases.

The Alviverde have struggled to compete this season and are currently 18th in the Brasileirão, seven points from safety with just three games remaining.

Now a group of supporters have made their feelings clear by painting the words ‘the peace is over’ on the wall of the club’s shop, which has infuriated the club’s director of football.

Roberto Frizzo said: “This is unacceptable.

“I hope this is a one-off and will never happen again. I want to believe this is an unrelated event and does not represent all of the Palmeiras supporters, or even a part of them.”

When asked about their current position in the table and their chances of staying in the division, Frizzo responded: “As long as we are alive, we will keep working hard. We are waiting for the good luck to start flowing in our direction.”

Big changes are expected at the club whether they survive or not and current president Arnaldo Tirone has taken full responsibility for the club’s situation.

He said: “I do not know [if I will run for the presidency next year], but we will see when it’s time.

“What I can say is that I have no motivation to even try and be re-elected.

“The only thing I regret is that I could have done more. I can tell you this, I am very upset. Am I responsible for all this? Of course I am.”

Palmeiras face Flamengo, Atlético Goianiense and Santos in their remaining fixtures as they attempt to beat the drop.

  13. The references to Andrew 67`s post inclined me to go back and find it. A few comments:

    1) A 67`s “need” to report it on here. Why?

    2) Is a gossip to be trusted? Because that is what the informant is;

    3) Supposing paddy really had a boozy youth, would that really affect him now?

I overdid it on the drink for many years and, whilst still abusing my body with alcohol on weekend binges, I was able to run 32.20 for 10k at the age of 50 (for non-runners, that is an excellent time but not being used to brag, simply to say that it is a nonsense to assume that alcohol would CONTINUE to affect any athlete let alone one who is a professional). All in all, Andrew,at best, an absolute nonsense of a post.

    KevJungle,

First of all I feel I have to make clear that I have nothing against you. You are obviously a passionate Tim. I apologise if it seems the only time I come on here is to critisize your postings. Its just that, well, you dont half talk some ‘psih’.

With out Ledley in midfield we are severely weakened. This I have noticed on many occasions. You see other players making a mad dash to cover back and rescue a situation from time to time. It looks great and you think, well done that bhoy.

However Ledley is breaking up play, making sure opponents are not available for a pass, always making himself space to be available for a pass in congested midfield areas, doing all the unglamorous stuff that is necessary so that others have room to express themselves. He is a VITAL link in other midfield.

Continuity of Possession is key, lung busting support runs to the back post are key, fearlessness are key.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion and thats fine but my question to you is what exactly has Joe Ledley been guilty of to warrant an axing?

As for Mulgrew. this fella can play in all sorts of areas of the field. Is it that he had two chances to score from a free kick and fluffed that has got your dander up? You’re a hard task master if that is the case. One of the first names on the sheet for me.

Kris Commons. One of our best players this year. Perhaps the most creative player so far. This is what we needed against St Johnstone. Didnt work out but Id have Kris in before Paddy. Giving the ball away in vital areas of midfield is not good enough. Sorry paddy.

    My rant over.

HH – feel much better now :)
