Celtic interims report turnover up

571

Celtic published a decent set of interim results this afternoon for the 6 months to 31 December 2015 but chairman, Ian Bankier’s address gets down to business with, “One the park, it has been a frustrating season”.

The sale of Virgil van Dijk contributed to a £12.6m income for player trading, balanced by £6.1m spent on the acquisition of Jozo Simunovic, Scott Allan, Saidy Janko Ryan Christie and Nadir Ciftci. This brought pre-tax profit to £11.7m, with cash in the bank at £7.7m (up from £5.3m a year earlier).

Turnover was up by an inch to £31.4m as the club traded at an operating profit for the period of £1.564m (before player trading). The second half of the year is devoid of European football income, not that the Europa League is that much of a game changer.

I know financial stability isn’t an end in itself, but it’s important nonetheless.

  1. Just caught a glimpse of te Dundee game there, tackle by St J player was a yellow card all day long in any other league on the planet, brother Thompshun no even a foul, no wonder our game is in the sewer.

    Let the players play.

Sort the referees, sort the problem

  2. And incidentally (but not surprisingly) the accounts show that both Celtic and CQN LIED to you about the simonovic transfer fee. What was it again. Oh yeah over £5m. Turns out our total spend was £6m.

But hey we are being lied to all the time so you should be used to it by now.

    So that makes it okay.

  3. So there you have it….the words od Ronny!!!!!……..Patricks Roberts is unlikely toeature in any of the Celtic games this season…wait for it…..”HE will have to adapt to the Scottish game” WHAT a load of pish !!!! what the hell is there to adapt to……the pace- well he has it in abundance…or has to be able to adjust to side passing….or tippy tappy in the box……or maybe he is to quick and plays fast attacking football…..so who is our star player who is going to keep this guy out of the side ???????????

  4. Top Kat is that what Ronny said?

    Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

What a mess that Celtic are in. What a glorious shambles of a disaster.

But it’s okay. We are making money.

  5. Celtic are now beyond parody.

They should take up one of my previous suggestions.

Play with ten men to save wages. Or charge supporters to play.

We can save costs and make money at the same time. What’s not to like?

“Oor bean counters are better than thems bean counters doo daa doo daa” Brother Walfrid 1890.

  8. Jock Stein once said”it”s better to be struggling at the top than struggling at the bottom”…and yes we did have some periods of indifferent form during the Big Man’s time – including seven straight League Cup final losses.

I am critical of Ronny, however I have resolved to put it on the back-burner and back him and the team till the end of the season.

Yes we are struggling for form at the moment, however the publication of the interim report shows that the club overall is in a strong position – ergo “struggling at the top”

We appear to have made a number of good signings and if we can gel and get positive results over the month ahead, things will not look so bad.

Positive transfer dealings have been our saviour over the past five years, so let’s just accept it as a fact of life. The draw of the EPL will always entice our top players – who is going to turn down treble wages and a upfront lump sum?

Celtic’s failure to win a single game in the Europa league competition was their first ever in history in continental football. Discuss.

I noticed both captains at the start of the Dundee v St J game giving Craig Thomson the fashionable up-in-the-air American type handshake thereby rendering the ol’ masonic tickle impossible.

    Nice.

Hope to meet up sooner rather than later , if you manage to escape Dublin !!

  15. Ron. They said it was an idea before its time but that once they had made the Celtic support more docile they would definitely consider.

Errr we appear to have made some good signings? Where? Did I miss them?

Hello Talk is a language app which has some good recommendations. Yet to download it but I will.

  19. GLENDASTONSILS, We need Celtic to be straightforward and say in publc

    that at as far as

they are concerned that the club from Ibrox are a new club in Scottish football. Would a cause all sorts of apoplexy, but good

  20. Celtic in the 80’s and 90’s used to get put out first or second round of European competition and some years never qualified for Europe . Discuss.

  21. If Kojo had posted that “hilarious” play on words I do not think the response would have been a congratulatory one.

    But hey its only banter.

  22. Robert Kelly once said that TV will be the death of football.

I paraphrase, and I am far too lazy to get involved in that unlazy journalism thingy and look up the actual quote.

But I do get the feeing if KHR and his ilk get his way, Robert Kelly was correct, the game is done as a sport.

We will have franchises, with no depth to their history, no soul.

An entertainment, for advertisers to sell their wares on the back of. I know they do that already, but it will become a vehicle for this alone, the sport will be secondary.

    Nothing more.

  23. Haha nice one Ron. As if Celtic would do such a thing. That opulent be good for business. Nah they would prefer you sit at th back of the bus with the rest of us.

Oh and mr Pastray perhaps you could tell us why you are okay withceltic and cqn lying about the cost of the simonovic transfer?

  24. eddieinkirkmichael on

I’m not a businessman, though I have ran my own business and currently I’m in the Bobo Baldie position of being CEO of Edward Rice Ltd. I’m basically a sole trader with no staff at this time only me.

I do know a couple of people who own and run their own businesses and they are also Celtic fans, one of them mentioned to me this evening that the only thing they could take from our accounts was that the board were aware of a change in the business going forward and were preparing for that change. Make of that what you will, the guy who made that remark has been involved in several high worth companies over the previous 30yrs.

  25. My final contribution for the night is I’m really looking forward to game tomorrow.

We have all used all the cliches imaginable re the next game being vital but tomorrow is my line in the sand.

We need 3 points and a performance even though just now, I’d settle for the 3 points.

The only good thing about our recent loss of form is that it has made the League exciting. Last year I was watching League games in a daze, you knew deep down if things went wrong, it wasn’t really going to make a blind bit of difference. Now it’s different, results matter, the tension is back. COYBIG.

    Good Night & God Bless.
