Celtic-Juve after two previous tight encounters

1074

Celtic will play Juventus in the last 16 round of the Champions League.  Juve are seven points clear top of the Italian league having won the competition last season without losing a game.  They eliminated reigning European champions, Chelsea, in the last round and finished above a good Shakthar team.

They are remarkably well organised and don’t lose many goals (10 in 17 league games, 7 less than anyone else), but this is a tie Celtic can plan for.  Juventus will present the same kind of challenge Barcelona did in the group stage, but they are not as effective as the Catalans.

Celtic have faced them twice in the European Cup/Champions League previously, winning both home games and losing away on each occasions, controversially in 2001.

I’m up for this one. Fairy-tale story with the lovable Celts the only British representatives in the quarter finals? Loins girded.

Finally I hope everyone joins me in my new years resolution and rid this site of the rangers forever.

You know that aint going to happen, although it is a nice thought just the same

  2. ….apparently…when Keech Jackshun asked Sooperally for the identities of the African and Japanese players Sevco was interested in he replied, with a nod and a wink…Ratul B’roabi, Suki Mab Obi…..

  3. I only go to the Cellic games – every now and again.

Gave my SB to my brother when we brought in WGS.

SB was for section – 138 – Jock Stein lower.

I have been following the Tic for – 42 years(actively).

I have ony ever been to – 2 European away games

v’s Notts Forrest 83/84 – Liverpool 97/98.(Canny remember much about it though :o)

I think my 1st game was v’s Aberdeen at CP 71/72(I think)

I remember being at the game v’s A/deen at CP the next season

as well – wee Jinky sent off by MIB – Bobby Davidson.

I went to all the home games and almost all the away games domestically from, 71/72 season until the year the Jungle was flattened. From that point on…I decided to carry out my own personal bhoycott until…the new board was in place. After that..I was back again almost every week. Was a SB holder since the old board were sacked. I still have the SB but…my brother uses it now. I go to see the Cellic whenever I can but, I find it far too expensive to go all the time now.

I would ask Santa – Please build a new Jungle – for the Green Brigade – now THAT would be awesome !!! imo

    Off oot

    May God Bless Paul 67

  4. Greetings from Concord , New Hampshire .

Jet lagged . Cold and wet .

    So it’s Juve .

Owned by a family with money and political power . Used to getting what they want and seemingly not averse to breaking the rules in order to ensure that they get what they want .

The team ? Play 3-5- 2 . Big/, athletic / powerful / lots of pace and lots of technique. Do not play defensive football. Players to watch —-Pirlo /Marchisio / Asamoah/Giovinco. Vucinic veers between brilliance and utter can’t be bothered indifference . The young French player , Pogba [ ex Man U ] looks like a right good player Lack a reliable goalscorer . They might resolve that by signing Drogba.

The support ?——-A broad church but they do have a hard core [ 400/500] of we like violence lu-lus . .

Turin ———- great food / great wine / great museums / the Egyptian Museum is fabulous. The civic authorities /police will classify Celtic as ” English ” and therefore a potential problem . Bars will shut / supermarkets etc will stop selling alcohol etc .

    Me —- I hope to get a Celtic ticket but if not I will be able to get a Juve ticket . [ I will be very careful to select a seat in a ” safe ” part of the stadium }

Hope to sleep soon —— way up north east !

  5. Burghbhoy,

Reading through last night, I noticed your post re your “Sevconian” postie – which also coincided with my inbox taking a severe rattling, mainly by a retired postal worker from our parish. I can only assume that you are still drunk from our massive swally session last August, and that you are confusing the postie with the coalman.

If I am correct (and I always am) your postie is on paternity leave and will be back on his route in January – when his Christmas tip will be due for delivering tickets in a timely and sometimes express manner throughout the season.

I have it on good authority that he taught the postie in Harthill how to whistle the champions league anthem.

  7. Jungle Jim,

Thanks for taking the time out to have a wee look, I’m glad you were impressed. I think this is the kind of player Celtic need to bring people back to Celtic park. We have always appreciated entertainers. This guy is amongst the best, with a proven record at the top and best of all he is free!!

Steinreignedsupreme, in Carlisle, they call it ‘black eye Friday’ !

    ——————————————————————————————

Cumbria police now call it Festive Friday! The new Police Commissioner will be visiting Barrow and Workington to observe the policing of this traditional day of punch ups

  9. Giggs set to leave man Utd at the end of the season. Is he worth a year in the Hoops or would he be another Ljunberg?

I know he dived to earn a penalty against us in the Champions League but he might be worth a punt.

Fair comment. Just wanted to put it out there.

He has blotted more than his copy book off the park. Big Sami would have to keep the Mrs locked up!

Can’t see Scholes playing for any other team except Oldham who he is a supporter of. He used to leave Old Trafford rapid if they played early doors to get to Oldham to watch their games. Proper fan. Great player was Scholes but lost the only yard of pace he had a couple of years ago. He would get red carded every week up here!

  13. As if Juve weren’t already formidable enough rumor has it that they are looking to sign Fernando Llorente, currently with Athletic Bilbao who haven’t played in the Champions League this year. Llorente is a strong powerful finisher who knows what it’s like to score in Glasgow having scored the winner for Spain at Hampden Park in the last time the World and European champions came to Scotland. He’ll be a problem for the Celtic defense if given the chance.

  14. Ricardo Quaresma ?

    Haven’t seen him for a while .

Failed big time at Inter . Publicly berated by Mourinho for tactical indiscipline and an inability to play for the team .

Won the Bidone d’oro award in 2008 [ the golden garbage can ] . An award for being the worst player in Serie A [ chosen by the football media ]

    Decisions Decisions

I am leaning towards Cash and Go at 3.10 Ascot but I have a sneaky regard for Dan Breen in that race,

I also think Top Wood will run a big race in the 1.45 at Haydock

I will stick with Cash and Go

    Best of luck
