CELTIC assistant boss John Kennedy has emerged as a shock candidate for the manager’s job at FC Midtjylland.

The Danish club, who knocked the Hoops out of the Champions League at the qualifying stage last July, are looking for a new boss to replace Bo Henriksen who has been sacked after only 14 months in charge.

Ange Postecoglou’s No.2 is now on their wanted list, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

TRAINING FIELD OF DREAMS…Ange Postecoglou with assistants John Kennedy and Harry Kewell plots the way ahead at Lennoxtown.

Thirty-eight-year-old Kennedy, who was caretaker gaffer for the last 10 games of the ill-fated 2020/21 campaign following the departure of Neil Lennon last February, is apparently interested in what the Danes have to say.

Midtjylland, Superliga title winners in 2015, 2018 and 2020, are heading out of the Champions League after a 4-1 first leg thrashing from Benfica in Lisbon last week.

They have failed to hit the ground running and are considering making Celtic’s former club and country centre-half Kennedy their first-ever foreign head coach.

CUP THAT CHEERS…Ange Postecoglou and John Kennedy share the joy after the Premier Sports League Cup Final triumph over Hibs six days before Christmas.

Brendan Rodgers was prepared to take the backroom Bhoy to Leicester City when he quit Parkhead in February 2019, but he decided to stay and worked with the incoming Lennon to guide the team to the incredible treble treble.

Later that year, Hibs eyed him as a potential boss, but once again he remained loyal to the Hoops to remain at Parkhead.

Kennedy, who made his Celtic debut at the age of 16 in 2000 before injury forced him to retire 10 years later, has also worked with Ronny Deila, who promoted him to the first-team set-up in the summer of 2014.

Postecoglou’s respected assistant may now be ready to end his 25-year association with his boyhood idols to go it alone.
