Celtic set to match and beat Scottish consecutive trophy record

316

As you know, Celtic have won six consecutive trophies. This had been achieved three times before in Scottish football, by Celtic in 1905-09, Rangers in 1963-65 and again by Rangers in 1992-94.  On the latter occasion, Rangers established a new record of seven consecutive domestic trophies.

Win on Sunday and we match Rangers’ record from the (painful) 90s, but that would set up this season’s League title as a new record decider.

The 1909 Scottish Cup was withheld after crowd trouble after the Celtic-Rangers final reply ended in a draw.  Celtic missed out on making it seven trophies in a row when Dundee won the 1910 Scottish Cup five days before Celtic secured the league title.

Those dark days in the 90s were hard.  Celtic were an afterthought for most fo the country, a sporting irrelevance.  Sunday is a chance to exorcise those dark days.

English teams seem to lack the technical prowess and sophistication to beat the higher level teams.

Liverpools front 3 can terrorise any team but the service to them at this level is lacking.

Keita looks to be a good signing and will improve them in the central areas.

Henderson,Wynaldaum are not quite up to this level.

The ref was very favorable to Liverpool tonight.

  2. I was astonished by the lack of reaction up to now from the SFA or Referee’s Association to the Hun’s attack on Willie.

I know we can still be cynical but I for one welcome the SFA move.

    KEV @ 9:28 PM,

I’m not sure you understood the question, let me rephrase it…

    Armstrong + £3,000,049.00 = Calmac;)

January’s going to be interesting eh!!

    NEUSTADT-BRAW @ 9:30 PM,

Yes, Scotland has some serious decisions to make. I hope it lives up to the epitaph…

    MACJAY1 @ 9:31 PM,

Well, I’ve got oot in eight hours so unfortunately we don’t have time to cover my problem(s) with democracy;)

The housing in general and the housing market in the Britain, especially the South East is an absolute train crash I’m afraid… Not an opinion but a fact agreed by all.

The Right to buy policy in itself was good in my opinion but in reality it did help individuals but in the scheme of things has just added to the overall misery.

My local Council doesn’t even have any Council Houses anymore.

Quite happy to keep it to fitbaw…

    So Calmac or Streeeetch??

    BHOYJOEBELFAST @ 9:36 PM,

I’ll take that as a vote for Calmac;)

    That be my decision too…

    Hail Hail

Neymar……supremely talented and supremely loathsome in equal measure.

Not that he is the only one in that PSG to display talent and loathsomeness.

    Fair comment.

Their manager still doesn’t seem capable of getting his teams over the final hurdle.

CalMac all day everyday. Why even think about armstrong he couldnae wait to get oot of paradise.

Over rated and so was his quiff.

    goodnight all

    KEEP THE FAITH

  7. My personal opinion I don’t think Rodgers should tinker too much across the 2 games.

I would continue with Christie and McGregor as the 2 central midfielders.

I would start Rogic against Rosenborg, and give him a good 60mins

I would bring Ntcham on for Rogic on Thursday and give him a good half n hour.

The 3 central mids for Aberdeen on Sunday should then come from these 4 players.

As such, my own personal opinion is that Scott Brown should bide his time. If we finish Aberdeen off early on Sunday, bring broony on for 20 mins or so. Build up his match sharpness from there

Here’s an article about some of the most evil reprehensible criminals on the face of the earth. All of whom are being encouraged to come to Britain with their ill gotten gains. Your constant support for evil right wing bar stewards is sickening, your constant denigration of the wretched of the earth struggling to get to a place of safety should not be tolerated on a blog for fans of the team founded by Brother Walfrid

Don’t bother replying I wont read it.

  9. Feeling quietly confident about the Rosenborg game. Regardless of their line up I think we can go there and win. Not worried about a supposed second string that we might face no matter how motivated they are, excluding fitness, they’re not in the first team for a reason.

Less confident Redbull fc1will help us by winning or even trying to win against eh Redbull fc2. The bookies seem to agree.

All we can do is make sure we win and hope there is an outbreak of morality in Salzburg.

I expect wee Forrest to end his goal drought in Norway :)))

  10. TRFC face 5 charges from the SFA because of all they said about Willie Collum.

I’m no big fan of Collum but did the Ibrox club keep their biggest response against a referee towards a Catholic one?

On the face of it bringing 5 charges against Them sounds good. But we are only a third of the way there yet.

Will they be found guilty of all 5 or some of the charges?

    What will the punishments be?

  11. Quick question

Who was the linesman, that wanted our player Red Carded, by shouting 3 or 4 times to the ref “red card”

And who were we playing ? In the game

  12. Dubaibhoy

Sorry. Do not know a bar to recommend.

Was just listening to the new Ian Brown single First World Problem. Enjoyed the listen.

  13. The ‘hint’ at TRFC motives against Collum lies on their statement that he had ‘underlying issues’. What could that be if you were a sectarian bigot?

Loving your Richard Ashcroft B sides. Magic to hear again 20 years after first listen. Thanks pal.

  15. Another question

Are Celtic still the only club in Scotland to have been fined for a fan throwing a coin ?

Or an official ( referee or assistant ref) having been hit)

    And

The only club to have been fined for poaching a manager

It was the worst social and economic measure of the post war era.

  17. Ah – D17,thanks

    That’s the Conservative &Unionist MP/Ref/linesman

Who is criticising Mrs May for putting the union at risk ( on tele less than an hour ago)

    Thought it was him

  18. EL

Totally agree with you and my parents who refused to buy their attractive semi detatched wi garden in Knightswood. My late father predicted homelessness if there were no council houses to let to the poor. The amount of street sleepers in Glasgow is getting epidemic. We need change of policy.

  19. Brendan Rodgers hoping TRFC can progress in Europe like Celtic, for the sake of the Scottish Game.

    Really Brendan?

Sometimes its better to say nothing.

  20. No one from Celtic should give that shower at Ibrox any relevance or credibility.

    The club is beneath contempt.

Not sure that in principle the sale of council houses to tenants is in itself a bad policy.

In effect it may be, I grew up in a council house, the same council house my mother grew up in,

In the late 60s she was given the option of continuing to rent the house or for an extra weekly payment to the council she could buy. She opted to buy and it worked well for us.

Once more council houses are built and rented to people who cant afford to buy (or dont want to buy) there shouldn’t be a problem.

The problem is the council selling off their housing stock and not re investing in the continued supply of affordable housing.

  24. Remember the red Star game at Celtic Park 1968,a fan ran on to shake jinky’s hand after an inspiring display. The fan was fined £120.Has any other club’s fans been hit with such a hefty fine when,to be honest the guy should have been returned to the terracing and warned.Given some recent disturbances from other fans where nothing was done that fan some fifty years ago was treated unfairly to say the least.
