Celtic set to match and beat Scottish consecutive trophy record

316

As you know, Celtic have won six consecutive trophies. This had been achieved three times before in Scottish football, by Celtic in 1905-09, Rangers in 1963-65 and again by Rangers in 1992-94.  On the latter occasion, Rangers established a new record of seven consecutive domestic trophies.

Win on Sunday and we match Rangers’ record from the (painful) 90s, but that would set up this season’s League title as a new record decider.

The 1909 Scottish Cup was withheld after crowd trouble after the Celtic-Rangers final reply ended in a draw.  Celtic missed out on making it seven trophies in a row when Dundee won the 1910 Scottish Cup five days before Celtic secured the league title.

Those dark days in the 90s were hard.  Celtic were an afterthought for most fo the country, a sporting irrelevance.  Sunday is a chance to exorcise those dark days.

The one Griffiths scored from on Saturday was a joke.

Foul was a yard outside the box so 19 yards. Should have been fairly simple to get the wall back to halfway between the six yard box and the penalty spot. Looked MUCH closer to the penalty spot to me.

  3. WITS Thanks for that, one of my all time favourite REB tune. 98 years ago today. No doubt I may have mentioned in the past that circa 1964/65 I had the privilege to join the great Tom Barry in a protest in Cork against the visit of a British Naval Ship the HMS Relentless it was an honour to shake his hand.

What about his squareheid grampa who was deported fae the fatherland for being a draft dodger when he returned fae NA with buckets of ill gotten money or his da who attended kkk rallies in NY.

  7. Macjay,

cheers for the reply last night,

my feeling is that having lost the first vote in parliament

Mrs May will hope for a huge slump in the markets to go back

with a very slightly amended deal and hope that fear gets it through.

Not sure she will resign but more likely she will be forced out by her

own Mps,what happens then who knows.

  8. “You think that the sins of the father ( and ALLEGEDLY the mother } should be visited on the son and the grandson ?”

    Haud oan!

You were the one advancing the view that the “virtues” of the mother (if being Scottish is a virtue) should be visited upon Trump, to his benefit.

You asserted that he would do a favourable trade deal with post-Brexit Britain because of this. (ignoring St. Stiv’s point that his slum landlord KKK father was a son of a German brothel owner)

The reality is that Trump sees post-Brexit Britain in the same way that a lion views a wounded Wildebeest. He thinks that if Britain thinks it’s been screwed by the EU- just wait till it’s my turn! That’s why he wants buffoons like Farage and Boris (or your favourite old Bufton-Tufton Rees-Mogg) at the head of things.

I almost feel sorry for Teresa May but then I remember that she’s a Tory Bassa as well.

EC have said that they accept May`s proposed deal and will ” deal ” no further.

I think that they will not deviate from that position , but as you say , who knows.

I am confident that the British people and our friends throughout the world will overcome whatever problems and difficulties may arise from ” no deal”.

    We`ve ” gone it alone ” before .

Matters economic matter , of course , but my gut feeling is that the Brexit vote was powered by the sovereign borders issue.

Every terrorist attack underlines the need for border security imho .

My reference to Mama Trump was ” tongue in cheek ” .

But if you want to be technical , genetics and race are one thing.

    Behaviour is another thing entirely.

  13. Macjay,

I agree that immigration was probably the driving force for the Brexit vote,

not sure most people were away of a lot of the issues that will arise if there

is a no deal,i include myself in that.

I voted to leave, not convinced i would again given the chance.

  14. Personally I believe Trump’s policy is to divide & conquer. He dislikes the EU because of it’s united bargaining power , the more scattered & weak his trading rivals become the more he likes it.

I think leaving the EU is a crazy decision by the UK and going off the cliff with a no deal almost suicidal.

There is a huge majority of MP’s against a no deal brexit, however Labour & SNP will vote against May for their own agenda and the majority will not be apparent in the first vote,

However there will be a lot of items in play if as expected May’s deal is voted down.

I know full well if UK go out without a deal there will be collateral damage for Ireland and for that reason I hope some semblance of common sense prevails.

There is however a bad part of me that would say bugger it we will survive and let the Brits stew in a mess of their own making.

I actually dislike allowing myself to be drawn into this debate so it’s just a one off contribution from me.

If someone wants to talk about the game tomorrow then great.

Trump has some significant equity in said wildebeest and I think we can both agree that he can be relied upon to protect his investment.

Conflict of interest would be hard to prove.

  21. Hi Jim, Can;t get used to this Hot Smoked moniker, simple answer to question is yes. I think he will play and I think he deserves to play. CalMac has indeed been a revelation since he slotted back so interesting times ahead, I guess that’s why Brendan is paid such big money.

  22. Some of us have already done it, by stopping purchasing, or renewing season tickets.

I feel no guilt by not contributing to, the propping up of deceitful PLC board, who’s mantra is….

“If you can be bought, you can also be sold!

The PLC bought back, the missing 30,000 seats that appeared at Celtic Park, when RD was defeated in the SCSF, by a hun team from a lower division, the on the ropes PLC, responded by bringing in Brendan.

And then, the PLC sold out the support with the £49:00 Old Firm, same club tickets, behind the back of the Brendan bounce!

Bought by one PLC hand, and sold by the other PLC hand.

I am always worried about a trip to Norway in temperatures close to zero. The ghost of Harald Brattbakk haunts that nightmare.

I also worry about the threat that they will field a reserve team full of players who want to prove themselves and earn a cup final place.

On the plus side, our last 2 trips to Oslo have seen us draw 0:0 and win 0:1 with a James Forrest goal back when he was viewed as a diddy.

We have played Rosenborg 9 times and only lost once, scoring 11 and conceding 5.

So, why do I still have the fear?

I guess it’s the experience of seeing us struggle regularly in away fixtures.

My final fear is we get the reult against Rosenborg but don’t clinch the deal vs Salzburg

But one fear at a time will do for now.

I hate to pile on, but …

‘his priority is USofA, as it should be’…

if by USofA, you mean all Americans, I dont think that is accurate … if by USofA, you mean a very small percentage of the wealthiest people in the States, that is true …for example, his recent proposal to index capital gains to inflation would cost more than $100 billion over the next decade. The top 1 percent of earners would take 86 percent of the benefit. The top tenth of a percent of earners would take more than 63 percent.

And, all of that without any appreciable benefit to the economy (so none of the trickly down nonsense). The Congressional Research Service, the non-partisan think tank embedded within the Library of Congress, concluded “it is unlikely … that a significant, or any, effect on economic growth would occur” as a result.

So, who was he intending to help the USofA, or just himself and his cronies?
