    BMCUW:

It’s a complete set-up. How did The Record get in on the act ? They have clearly been briefed. Their role is the public vilification of the Celtic Support and It’ll sell well amongst their clientele.

  2. corkcelt- SUPPORTING THE DAM 5 on

I planned to stop posting & lurking until after Christmas as I must admit some of the stuff on here does get to me and I dont need that type of baggage when I’m trying to concentrate on my grandkids over the Christmas period. However I did take a peek and much to both my surprise & delight, I saw a rebellious post from none other than Tony Donnelly. Well sez I if the bold Tony is up in arms there’s hope for us all.

So Tony from one Tony to another,

The people’s flag is deepest green,

It shrouded oft our martyr’d dead

And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,

Their hearts’ blood dyed its ev’ry fold.

Then raise the emerald standard high,

Within its shade we’ll live and die,

Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,

We’ll keep the green flag flying here.

    up-over-goal,

Your response to Kitalba was extremely disingenuous and not very smart, I think anyone could read exactly the question being asked. If an Irish Citizen Celtic fan turns up at McDiarmid Park on Thursday with an Irish Flag, should that Celtic fan face arrest and have a criminal record for such an offence? Yes or No?

I’m sorry you feel that way. Kitalba suggested Celtic fans would be arrested for being Irish. I can only respond to the question he asked.

flags and banners will not be permitted inside McDiarmid Park stadium for this game

That is what St Johnstone have stated – no mention of arrests for carrying a flag.

As to whether it’s a good idea? I’ve already said – it’s a stupid idea.

  5. The Honest Cover-up on

So they got to ban the tricolour after all. How depressing. What a sad parochial little backwater we live in.

I don’t think I could bring myself to explain the police tactics to English friends, would just be too embarrassing. “Good luck with your independence” I think would be their response.

I think the condemnation within the Celtic support of the vandalism at Fir Park was almost universal but the disproportionate response is equally disgraceful.

The perpetrators have supposedly been banned using CCTV footage so why ban flags? Why not just ban the flares?

Will they be searched for flags at the turnstiles?! This is just so utterly cringeworthy…

There are darker forces at work here, and they couldn’t make it any more obvious, time for Celtic Supporters to make a stand, as you know I back the board and PL TO THE HILT, but we need leadership on this one, or there will be carnage, a statement no later than lunch time tomorrow would be acceptable, am I sure that will happen?

  11. Honest cover-up – a) this is nothing to do with the tricolour – that they might be removed is secondary to the overall action ( which I don’t agree with) b) flares are already banned.

The Scottish police obviously think banning flags and banners will make their job easier.

That’ll be the same Scottish police who demanded that all seat belts be fluorescent for the same reason.

  14. Afternoon Timalnd from a sunny hun free mountain valley.

The banning of flags and banners will encompasse the Tri Colour, that is their objective.

I was mocked for suggesting it would end with the wearing of the green.

That is on their agenda, open your eyes.

Tickets have already been purchased so any effective boycott would be nigh on impossible.

Easy solution, every Celtic supporter takes a flag of some sort to the stadium.

    Where did you read that?

  19. The Honest Cover-up on

    weeminger

What I meant was why not enforce the ban on flares properly. Search people at the ground, they used to be quite thorough searching for cans/bottles at the gate. There would be no need to ban flags as a means of “hiding flares” if they don’t get flares in.

This is a clear move by the police to stick two fingers up at Celtic fans. A ban on flags is one of the most ridiculous notions I’ve ever heard.

Some people in this country are repulsed by the sight of green, white and orange flags. If you think that is entirely secondary then fair enough

  20. The horror shown at the “Alleged,£10,000 worth of damage”at Motherwell, pales into insignificance when Falkirks £140,000 pitch was ruined by hun fans a couple of weeks ago.By flares. Will we see a ban on flags and banners at the hun Boxing day match?.After all,Police Scotland are telling us the ban is in connection with these devices being hidden.

Regards the £10,000 worth of damage, the worst Young has ever seen,I wonder what Celtics bill for damages was the last hun game.Loads of seats smashed, whole toilet blocks systematically wrecked, graffiti sprayed on walls.

I dont expect our MSM to mention it,but the silence from our board on the costs was deafening.

That would simply cause the queues to build at the turnstiles.

  27. Parliament should never pass laws because the police say they need them.

    http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/oct/21/david-mitchell-police-taser-blind-man

In my opinion Scotland is heading down a dangerous path, where the police demand new laws giving them Draconian powers, and once given them, they have special enforcement units for enforcing these laws.

With their reputation and so much money/personnel invested, it is then essential for the police to get the number of arrests commensurate with the resources allocated and this cannot be right.

Celtic, Rangers, SFA, Strathclyde Police, and The Scottish Police Service, represented by ACPOS, supported the introduction of FoCUS and the OB Act and provided submissions to the Justice Committee as the Bill progressed through the Parliamentary process. They would all lose face if either weren’t seen to work.

They aren’t working but rather than admit they were wrong they go to extraordinary lengths to get convictions (See Gallowgate kettling, dawn raids for seat breaking) and to balance these excesses we see PR offensives, aided by dubious reasoning about flags concealing pyros etc.

It goes back to the summit following the so called “shame game” when Celtic allowed themselves to be dragooned into something that was none of their business. Now we are part of a group that would love to see empty stands at Celtic Park.

  28. Sorry but some people need to calm down.

St Johnstone have apparently said it is their decision but that is not enough for some people.

It is moronic and stupid but just what percentage of the support going on Thursday would have a flag in the first place or want to take one into the ground?

Having the right to do it is another argument but I remember the days when you couldn’t take flags into Celtic park on sticks and took terrible abuse from fans (our fans) as a steward for asking people to remove sticks on flags.

If this is a St Johnstone decision designed to stop pyro coming into the ground wrapped in a flag or banner, take it at face value for now and wait and see if the same thing applies when say Aberdeen go to Perth. If there is a double standard then you can react and say this is victimization or selective use of rules. If not then you can choose to go to that stadium in the future or not.

If however you believe this is a gigantic stitch up I would not be surprised but what are you going to do? Go to Perth with the intention to make sure you sneak a flag in to get arrested?

The truth is if you believe this is a gigantic stitch up don’t play into their hands.

    Be smarter.

I’ll take St Johnstone at face value this once but we should be watching all their games with interest after this (assuming they ever get any fans or away support to go there in numbers).
