Homburg-Saar, you were on yesterday’s listing which BRTH posted. The annual was posted yesterday to you.

    Celtfish,

thanks for that; must have missed BRT&H’s list. Doubt if it will be here for Xmas though :-(

The next match at McDiarmid Park is this coming Thursday, the Boxing Day fixture against Celtic. It’s a 3pm kick-off and the game is live on Sky Sports.

The game is all-ticket and tickets remain available to both sets of supporters tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday. These are only available from the McDiarmid Park Ticket Office (opening hours: Monday 9.30am to 5pm and Tuesday 9.30am to 3pm). The Ticket Office number is 01738 455000.

This is a high-profile fixture at a great time of the season and both clubs are determined that the game is played in a safe environment which can be enjoyed by everyone.

Supporters will be aware that, regrettably, there has been a significant increase in the letting off of flares, smoke bombs and other pyrotechnics at games across the country this season.

These are inherently unsafe not only for those around the devices but also for spectators in general, particularly those who suffer from breathing disorders. They also have the potential to set seats alight and cause flags to burn.

St Johnstone FC and Celtic FC fully support Police Scotland in their attempts to eradicate this nuisance from our game and as part of the planning process for this match between the three parties and other agencies, and as there have been several instances of flags being used as cover for the igniting of these devices, a decision has been taken that for this specific fixture flags and banners will not be permitted inside McDiarmid Park. Fans are asked to be considerate of this requirement in the interest of their own safety and the safety of others.

Police Scotland have issued a statement on this and other aspects of the match which reads: “A large crowd is expected for the all ticket fixture between St Johnstone FC and Celtic FC on Boxing Day.

Police Scotland has been working closely with both clubs and other agencies to ensure that everyone enjoys the game in true festive spirit. But we also serve notice that anyone who falls foul of the law runs the risk of spending part of the Christmas period locked up.

Match Commander Superintendent Kevin Lynch said: ‘‘We welcome both sets of supporters for what we are sure will be an excellent sporting event. We hope that they all enjoy themselves and we will be there to help keep them safe.

‘‘The police and both clubs expect everyone to enjoy the occasion in the right way and abide by the law, as well as the ground regulations. We will be on hand to assist them where required and, where necessary, to deal effectively with anyone who is involved in disorder or other criminal behaviour.

‘‘Those attending the game, as well as the local community, can rest assured that we will deal effectively with any incidents and put offenders before the courts. That could mean a spell in custody for offenders at a time when I am sure they would prefer to be with friends and family. So please come along and enjoy the game in the right way.’’

As part of the planning process between the police, St Johnstone FC, Celtic FC and other agencies, a decision has been taken that flags and banners will not be permitted inside McDiarmid Park stadium for this game. Fans are asked to be considerate of this requirement in the interest of their own safety and the safety of others.

As with all fixtures, alcohol, containers, smoke bombs and pyrotechnic flares are not permitted in the ground and again, appropriate action will be taken against anyone in possession of such items who is breaching ground safety regulations or involved in any criminal activity.

Police officers will be active outside the ground to prevent the misuse of alcohol and there will be stop checks carried out on supporters’ buses en route to the game.

    St Johnstone statement

With road works ongoing on the local network, supporters are also advised to allow plenty of time for travel to the game to ensure that they arrive at the ground in plenty of time to be inside for kick-off.

Superintendent Lynch said: ‘‘We look forward to an entertaining afternoon and hope that everyone who attends enjoys the contest between the sides in a good-natured and enthusiastic way where everyone is safe and remembers the game for all the right reasons.”

  3. And up my arse I might have a stick of dynamite, should I be body-searched going through the St. Johnstone turnstiles.

You have the answer in your pocket… it is called your money – the Green Pound.

  4. corkcelt- SUPPORTING THE DAM 5 on

I’m off to Mass, unlikely to post again this side of Christmas so may I say Happy Christmas to all Celts Worldwide. We have our differences and sometimes we do fall out with each other but we have far more in common than what divides us. We do better in adversity, at the moment we are under attack. My hope is that we stay united and if we do, we will never be defeated. Hail Hail.

  5. Eddieinkirkmichael ok so celtics official reason for agreeing to no flags including the tricolour is because they are being used to hid people lighting flares and they might burn too.

The most feeble of feeble excuses ever. An insult to all of our intelligences.

  6. Given events of recent weeks, we can be sure the Perth match will come under a great deal of scrutiny.

That being the case, I hope there’s no trouble over something as silly as flags. Anyone who feels very strongly should let their feelings be known to St. Johnstone and refuse to purchase tickets for future games there until the ban is lifted. Simple really.

  7. roy croppie:

They’d rather we just sent them Postal Orders for our tickets and not turn up.

There is only one answer to this nonsense, each and every one of you can help defeat it, it is non-violent, you don’t have to be photographed, you just keep your pounds in your pocket. Write a letter if you are of a mind to, I implore you to write a letter.

    Passive-affirmative rebellion.

  8. corkcelt- supporting the dam 5,

Have a good Christmas with your family.

I enjoyed reading your posts as many on here did, hoping you will have a change of heart and keep up the fight. Hail Hail

  9. From my own experience of going to the game yesterday the Flag embargo is also in force at Celtic Park. Entering the area at the corner of the North stand I saw several supporters watching two stewards holding a ” Che ” flag whilst a senior steward was talking by phone to someone senior to ascertain if said flag was allowed to be taken into the park. When questioned by myself and others about this one steward replied that all flags and banners were being looked at as to their suitability for being allowed into the park!!

  10. Maybe the reason flags & banners have been banned is because a bunch of neds turned up at Fir Park and wrecked seats, costing Celtic over £10k in damages?

Or do fans demand the right to potentially cause such damage, whilst berating the board for not buying the £££ striker we so badly need (having qualified 2 years running for CL and sitting unbeaten at the top of the league).

What a slap in the face.

  11. Is there a history of serious supporter trouble with this fixture?

I cant recall any riots in recent years.

    Whats going on?

    Confused.

  12. awful game but a welcome 3 points

first time i’ve been able to get to a game for a while and it’s quite depressing. i think the guy reading out betting odds at half time when there’s a food bank collection outside the ground was particularly crass not to mention downright disrespectful to the opposition.

kudos to the young crowd at the back of the jock stein corner, made some racket.

  13. up_over_goal :

You’re right, arrest those flags and banners regardless of who is carrying them. Feck it arrest those carrying them too.

Take a minute to think mate.

The board can take the £10,000 out the money they made off the 125 tifo at the Barcelona game or the money they made off the COYBIG or glasgows green and white merchandise am sure it would cover it HH

  15. Oh, Paddy dear, did you hear the news that’s going ’round?

The shamrock is forbid by law to grow on Irish ground

Saint Patrick’s Day no more to keep, his colour can’t be seen

For there’s a bloody law again’ the Wearing of the Green.

I met with Napper Tandy and he took me by the hand

And he said “How’s poor old Ireland and how does she stand?”

“She’s the most distressful country that ever yet was seen

For they’re hanging men and women there for Wearing of the Green.”

In Scotland you just get arrested, though hanging might yet be an option.

  16. St Johnstone have made there statement, we don’t need to make one, it should be there for all to see on Boxing Day, an empty stadium, time to box clever here, more than one way to skin a cat. This all boils down to cops looking for trouble as the finger was pointed at them for there security at Fir Park, if you are going? Be very, very careful, looks like a cull if you ask me, IMO .

I never thought I could say such a thing but I now feel I have fallen out of love with Celtic.

It is not the the club I grew up following. I remember passion, flare, colour, hardship, determination, singing, good times coupled with bad.

Sadly now I fear it has all be dumbed down. It is just a club.

I think it would be easier for TKV67 and family not to follow this business calling themselves Celtic. Like many on CQN, Celtic is our lives.

The question is will PL&co move aside or will they do as much of

us desperately hope they will and back their supporters not customers!

Will they invest in the squad?

Will they bring back the thunder?

    I hope so……

The heart has been ripped out the club and it’s horrible and sad to see HH

  19. Gordon_J, I’m talking about the privately expressed views of officers who are wouldn’t dream of ciriticising their management publicly, but who have no problem doing the same in the right circumstances. Plenty of concerns have been expressed to me about the “half- a****d” manner in which the merger has been handled, and that’s now been formally recognised by Audit Scotland. Nonetheless…

Ironically, as a result of the single force, promotion opportunities are limited by comparison, because, as I pointed out, all the command structures have been merged, thus reducing the number of posts available. Fair to say House has few fans, based on the views of the guys I’ve spoken too.

  20. *THE KING VIC 67* on

I hope out leaders P67,CSA,CT,GB,FAC etc etc unify and ASK all Celtic supporters not to attend St Johnstone match.

I respect that some Celtic supporters may not want to Bhoycott the match but sadly this has all gone too far now.

The club is being torn apart!

  21. Reading this blog this morning found it ironic the number of posters commenting on an empty stadium while watching on TV.

Would someone be so kind as to post J P Talyor’s email address. I’ve a few questions I’d like to ask him before I make any rash decision on returning my two season books.

If Celtic are to be complicit in criminalising myself and my son for supporting the club we love I’d like to know why.

  23. GREETINGS FROM GREECE!!!!

MARY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR WITH HEALTH AND PEACE TO EVERYONE!!!!

I am very surprised to how many same words we have both greece and scotland.

I really didn’ t know that.

The tickets are already bought for this so a boycott of this match won’t happen but future games in Perth might be just like Kilmarnock when only 1 stand was opened HH

  25. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

If the game was not on Sky I don’t think the joint edict would have been issued. The scenes at For park does not good television make. The last boxing day Celtic game was poorly policed. I think you should stop giving them your money. It’s a trait that you need to question ?

I.e what are you paying for and before you say a game of football is Brines refereeing ?

  26. Elidor69 et al,

I have always thought that the concept of Police Scotland was more to do with control and accountability rather than efficiency and saving money requirements.

There can be no doubt that Mr Salmond is a very clever individual.

Be vigilant, or we could be walking into “democracy” as written by him next year.
