Ernie – pay at the gate might become an option for them if they dont get their act together sharpish. Wonder if I’ll get away with the old double biscuit squeeze through the turnstiles :)

  2. Bhoy From The Boyne on

Ajer, Ntcham, Edouard, Elhamed, Christie, Moi, Laxalt, Brown, Duffy all likely to leave at end of season, if not sooner in some cases given league is now gone.

It will be some overhaul this summer…..hopefully Callum McGregor/club does not get an offer they cannot refuse from EPL.

The one player I truly hope we keep.

I would a few others to your list

    Barkas, Julien, Rogic ect.

  4. Good to see some posters being constructive and putting forward suggestions….

Usual repeated statements ever 5 mins by some requesting that other’s don’t pay into the club, (a club they love and will always support) whilst they give no indication that are even a season ticket holder seems wrong and comes across as trolling. Detail your sacrifrice before encouraging others.

Measured piece that largely resonates for me, but I’d add.

No to JK – we need a new guy w a new team to assess what we have and start planning for Europe quallies.

Agree on cashing in on Olli, Ryan and Eddy as suggested. If transfer money for wee Jerry is tabled, I’d take it.

I thought Duff had his best game to date last night so I’d keep along w Diego, but return Moi.

(PS I dont think Greg T is as bad as inferred)

Having seen our seconds, I think we need a big review of the youth setup; culture and quality need improving.

Surely now taken as read that a new CEO needs to come in.

Mibby nepotism will find a way for Desmond or Peters’ sons to take the club forward…?

Watching McGregor this season has reminded me of Paul McStay trying to hold the shit together when it was all going Pete Tong. He should be the main man with the team revolving around him as by far best technical and game intelligent player at the club. Has went from a winger to an attacking midfielder to a babysitting midfielder. shocking.

I agree with much of your piece however the timing of the new manager is going to be crucial (isn’t it always?) to wait until this season has finished is too late, we don’t want the same old story of a new guy desperately trying to figure out his team/ who’s going and also some new ones coming in AND trying to qualify for the Champions League, this will result in the usual knocked out before people are back from their summer holidays annual event. We need the new guy in ASAP to look at the club, resources, players, behind the scenes, budgets etc. etc. anything else will see this season repeat itself.

  9. Have we signed the teenage French Super KId for £7,200.000 yet? You know, the one we were eyeing.

    No laffin’ at the back.

  10. Once a manager throws his players under.a bus ,his days are numbered at the club ,In this case it is Neil Lennon who has to shoulder the blame the way the teams been playing this season,as for players coming in ,the word has probably done the rounds that what he said ,then I’m afraid if he is still at Celtic, quite a few players will not come to Celtic,he is finished at Celtic and he knows it,Peter Lawell and Dermot Desmond have to show to the fans by recruiting a good manager ASAP,they pulled a rabbit out of the hat ,with Brendan Rogers being appointed,so don’t hesitate get the new coach in pronto, and finally I will still renew my season ticket.

To say something is wrong with our club is stating the obvious

    So what now !!!!!!

We need to look beyond PL and NL ( for clarity I want them both to leave with dignity and respect – but they have greatly contributed to the problem)

DD has some thinking and some decisions to make

From selling the club – getting hands on day to day – changing the Board

He could also believe in the Board and do nothing (weak strategy IMHO)

If he sells the club – he has no decision to make as the new owner will pick up the pieces

Sell to who ? I have no idea – I’m also aware selling does not always have a happy ending

Just my opinion – but I cannot see DD selling in this environment – there is no good news out there

So if DD does not sell and he remains in control !!!!

Doing nothing – which has been his strategy so far – shows no sign of improving the situation

So if he continues to do nothing – it is likely nothing changes

Common sense tells me a man like DD who has succeeded in business must have taken some hard decisions in his time, more so when his stake in the business is likely to dilute

All roads lead to, what to do with PL

DD will be loyal to PL who has given him 9 years of dividends as well as a few trophies

But every dog has its day and today is not a good day

So what now DD, where to from here ?

Me too but his talking up or about Hibs players was strange, it’s Celtic TV, no offence but we don’t care about other players, or is it just me? Also a couple of times he was less the ‘neutral observer’ the McGregor one about ‘fooling the referee’ was bad. I know Tom Boyd can gets tongue tied etc. but at least he calls out cheating by the Hun with the whistle Darren has nothing to say on it. Last night when McLean clearly decided to hobble Soro by theocratically warning him after his FIRST foul and then booking him after his SECIND, whilst at the same time ignoring numerous Hibs players fouling and Rogic having to be fouled two or three times by the same player before he got anything. As I said last night McLean didn’t cause us to drop two points last night but he helped!

  13. Like many other posters, I said in November when we had the 8-2 agg loss to Sparta that enough was enough. We had 6 weeks or so before the trip to Ibrox where we could have attempted to salvage the season with a new mngmt team.

One of my main observations back then with regards to the coaching setup was that not a single player had noticeably improved since Neil had taken over, not a single signing or loanee had met or exceeded expectations and not a single player had come through the reserves/youths to improve the team.

If, as a manager, you are getting paid 2.4 million base salary (2019-2020) to lead a team stuffed with international players and they are all regressing, what excuse do you have?

Since then Soro and Turnbull have become the heartbeat of the team and, at last, we have two signings that are performing as expected. But Soro has been there since last January. Turnbull since the summer. What kind of bloody mindedness left them out of the team while Brown was playing twice a week for months on end? While Rogic and Ntcham were given chances again and again and failed to deliver?

What kind of coaching is going on where a young lad like Ralston is cramping up after 50 minutes? At that age you should be able to run all day .Where MJ gets months to get fit, bulk himself up in the gym and comes back looking just as powderpuff as before?

So again I ask, what does Lenny do to earn his 2.4 million base salary? That is 200,000k a month going into his bank account while failing to provide any proof that he can maintain or improve on the standards that he had the good fortune to inherit.

Luckily for us there are 2 CL qualifying places next season. We will enter at 2nd qualifying round while the Zombies will enter at the 3rd round.

Given our qualifying history and expected upcoming overhaul, it is unlikely we will qualify anyway but at least we have a path this season.

Hate to say it, but the Zombies created this 2nd place for us through the European form. Even if we won the ten this season, there is a chance they would qualify for the CL as 2nd placed team given their European form past 2 years.

That would been out of our control anyway, zombies are taking another financial gamble and this one is looking like to pay off for them. Not to offer any excuse for our board/managements performance, that still needs to be addressed and they need to be held accountable.

    =============================

Absolutely YES to all of that. We continually – year after year after year – have, under PL, made the exact same error – strengthen / make squad changes after we see where we are with euro-qualifications, and not strengthen before the qualifying rounds to increase our chances of qualifying. Madness – same every year – terrible mismanagement – no vision or forward planning.

Torn on renewal – a coordinated plan for change (via CT perhaps) would give people a focus for such actions. As it stands, part of the unease is that if you don’t renew, you end up losing contact with folks you’ve been sitting at games with for years due to potential relocation, etc. – it is a lot to give up from your experience going to the games.

Torn – not ruling it out, but only if there is a clear purpose. Doing it just as an aimless protest would be pointless.

Waiting for Mr Desmond Dermot or Dermot Desmond (whatever his name is) to say something about what is happening to our once great club…(it’s still a great club despite the efforts of Lawwell and co.)

Big Pete was happily floating along on his magic carpet surveying all from above. Suddenly, someone whipped the rug from under his arse and he is now falling almost as fast as the team he administers…

I hope he lands on his overly heated driveway and singes his bum.

And to make matters worse, i really don’t like DD’s big handlebar moustache…it looks more like a bushy eyebrow that has slipped down for a drink. I hope it falls off his face…

I’m so angry I could stamp my feet…

    67 European Cup Winners,

Yes, I am. Simply need to and I think we will given our calibre of player v’s what Aberdeen/Hibs have etc. I even think we will beat and remain unbeaten against the zombies in our last 2 games v them.

    All too late of course.

  20. I think this is the first time since the 90s early 00s – possibly Barnes season – that I feel the season is truly over in January. Albeit the Mowbray season was horrific too. However, this feels worse, given the ‘Generation of Domination” pish on here.

  21. ERNESTO79 on 12TH JANUARY 2021 12:11 AM

Has anyone watched a game this season and afterwards thought we were great there? Loads of great pass and movement, tremendous attacking intensity…. no, its been turgid dross game after game. We’ve become a very boring team

    —————————–

great post, describes exactly what i was thinking last night. Even in the dark days of the 90s we had some great attacking performances.

It feels like watching Scotland (apart from 06/07 and 14/15) since 1998

I think we need to remember that the team of May 2016 was widely seen by the support as boring, cut price and going nowhere under Deila. A team of fringe Lennon players , young lads and punts. We couldn’t defend set pieces too.

Rodgers came in and with pretty much 2 additions (Dembele and Sinclair) turned it into Invincibles and treble winners. He got a lot of those players playing at their max and some stayed at that level. We won a lot of games late on and looked fit as fiddles

Some of those players have gone back to 2016 levels

What Rodgers did was not sustainable and we needed to beef up the squad. I still don’t understand why that never happened but Lennon got to spend loads on players who have not moved the needle

PS now that we have lost 13 players due to the Dubai trip, is Boli now not a baddie and can come back?

I need to have a good word with myself get out of this sinking feeling. I promised my auld boy at Christmas 2019 i would stop letting Celtic affect my mental health. Need to get by CBT ticklist out and have a nice coffee and give myself a shake

I’ve been a season ticket holder since around 82/83 hardly ever miss a game unless work or travel intervenes.

Right now I am of the opinion that I will not renew, at the very least I’ll be holding off until the transfer window closes.

Its a difficult decision for me, it genuinely is but I’ve had enough broken promises to last a lifetime.

    I’m done with them.

where did you get the £2.4m base salary figure for Lennon? That is Rodgers level pay. I thought it was agreed on here that Lennon was a cheap option and couldn’t afford to resign?

is it in the Accounts? Usual these costs are aggregated

    I love Celtic the Club.
