  1. Glad the majority of posters here tonight are seeing the game as it was and are being realistic… We were always going to be a bit rusty against a side 18 games into their season ( albeit a poorer team)! Tonight could have proved to be a very slippery banana skin, yes more goals would have been nice but 2-1 is a win. We know them a bit better now and know what we have to do in finland to get through. The first spl at the weekend will make us that bit sharper and have us more prepared for Wednesday!! Keep the faith bhoys!! Hail hail, another roller coaster season begins!! Fasten the seatbelts!!!

Have to say with all the Sevco nonsense dominating everything these past few months its great to be talking about our team playing Football again!!!

  3. i wish nl would give paddy a proper chance….giving him the odd 2 minutes and expecting him to win the game….whats the point.

  4. Thought we dominated most of the match but only looked dangerous when we moved forward at pace. The sideways passing and probing didn’t work at all. They were poor, and if we don’t go through then serious questions need to be asked of everyone involved at the club. In saying that, i’m confident we will win next week and progress. Wanyama doesn’t look convincing at CH and Izzy had a shocker (by his standards). All of Helsinki’s danger came down our left where Sammi rarely tracks back and Izzy was continually caught out of position. Ledley and Mulgrew had their work cut out covering the left side when those 2 went walkabout. Not a big fan of Brown but thought he did well tonight. Front 4 all played well in patches but MOTM for me was Joe Ledley. Closing down, covering for Izzy/Sammi and getting forward to support the attack, he seemed to be everywhere.

Be careful, GCT is about and he can’t tolerate negative posts

You’ve made several.no doubt he is formulating a rebuke as we speak

    A 4.4.2 ?

I thought Hooper was playing alone with Sammi in a five man mf ?

Who was the other forward ?

I watched it on tv mind

    There was an analysis? :-)

Agree with most but a bit harsh on Victor. His was a mixed bag- he lost the ball admittedly but so did Sammi and Izzy tonight. Vic was unfortunate with the goal. If he had not deflected it back to the scorer, I think it would have broken to the Helsinki support attacker.

To my mind Scott Brown is not a central midfield player,,Victor is,hopefully see him play in his natural position more often as the season progresses

Totally agree about Scott Brown, not at his best in the middle. Victor played well tonight at the back, 2 ball playing centre halfs could be interesting, at one point him and Mulgrew hooked up as wingers on the edge of the Helsinki box! lol……but Vic is better in the middle of midfield and so are we when he’s there.

Scott Brown came on to a game in the second half and was ulucky not to add to the scoresheet.Still think he is accommodated somewhat

IMO Brown is at his best on the right of midfield, thats when he looked best again tonight. the game passes him by in the middle of the park and I don’t thin he’s tracked a runner in all his days with us, their little number 7 was buzzing about between our defence and midfield all night, we were lucky they never picked him out.

  9. Tremendous to be back at Celtic Park. Green Brigade in fine voice, big crowd, a hoop winning a silver (and nearly a gold!) before kick off.

That indescribable split-second as you realise we’ve scored a goal.

Boy next to me said: “So, are you gonna miss the Huns?”

    Pause.

Then we both burst out laughing.

  10. Leave poor old Foxy alone.

    Foxy is not harming anybody.

    Foxy is simply a contrarian.

If you say white, Foxy will say black,…even if you are talking about snow.

One of the world’s greatest ever contrarians died today.

    May he rest in peace.

We didn’t play 4-4-2. It was 4-2-3-1 with Commons supporting Hooper and Sammi and Forrest wide.

    Well done to Michael Jamieson.

How good is it to be a Tim ?

Championship flag to be unfurled this weekend.

    A CL tie next week.

A glamour game against Real Madrid the week after.

At least we don’t have East Fife to look forward to, sorry EF, no offence ment.

    Take care and god bless.

  15. Evening Bhoys,

Just home. Second game in new seats front main stand – great!

One thing I thought; Neil Lennon has done well in pre season to get the players looking fitter, in the last 20 mutes especially, than a half decent team halfway through their season. Those who criticise him should remember that. They should also be big enough to admit that, while there is still room for improvement, that was quite a mature performance. The away goal was, for me, a moment of carelessness which we must try to avoid in future. Several players were really good – Sammy, aside from five minutes of madness near the end, for example, and Adam Matthews. Charlie and Vic were good, though Vic is better in midfield…

We may need an away goal, but we can do that against this tram, and we will have more game time before then to sharpen up.

Is it not great to be talking Celtic, football, and CL again, rather than some diddy third division team!

Got droont on the way back to the car tonight, but it was good to be back amongst a big home support and a good atmosphere in the ground.

IMHO I thought Neil got his starting selection wrong, the team had a better balance during the first half on Saturday. Starting all three of Sami/Forrest/Commons was a mistake for me and Broon in the middle is rarely effective. There was a very solid look to the Ledley/Wanyama pairing on Saturday and I would have stuck with it, especially as Lustig looks a better CB than RB!

The bhoys did well to come back so quickly, but they could have pushed for a third goal to put the pressure on HJK. In saying that, I agree with other posters who have stated that we will score over there, so I’m quietly confident.

For now, I’m looking forward to Sean unfurling the flag, a good home win and a few scoops with some excellent CQNers.

Think we have a good chance of progressing with the caveat of a plastic pitch and the chance that they are a different team on their own patch.

Think the away displays in Rennes and Udinese will have added valuable experience.

Was impressed with the players fitness, but again dont see the value of Brown in a central position.

James Forrest grew into the game but generally our crossing is poor.

    Great crowd tonight 52,000.

Home-router is knackered,so only popping in occasionally at work.

Glad to have won tonight, hopefully we can finish-no pun intended-the job.

Sounds like we might need a quality CB and a pacy striker though.

    “just my thoughts is all”

It was just that you used the word “know” in the first post not “think” so I thought I was out of some information loop.

I agree that AT was at hand to help tackle the thug at Tynecastle but we were talking about football not Minder contributions. AT was and will probably remain a mate of Neil’s. Nonetheless, he was given several chances to get his act together before PL and NL agreed that he needed to be let go.

I am sure they were still grateful for his services and they will both hope he gets his circumstances back together and becomes the man he was. I wish him all the best and, if he makes it, he would be welcome back at CP.

I think, but do not know, that PL would express similar sentiments.

  22. 52,849 was tonight’s attendance.

So 52,800 Celtic supporters. Truly incredible!!!

  23. Away qualifiers are rubbish.

Headache? Tense, nervous headache? (that was a tv ad for a painkiller in the 80’s).

It’s how I feel about away qualifiers :-@

So that would be about 45,000 season ticket holders and 8,000 supporters buying a ticket for tonight. I hope the experience convinces them to buy a season ticket.

I have no inside info about the amount of season ticket holders just rumours.

  26. CQN is changing so am I on

Hail hail to one and all very different for me tonight after years of being up in the gods of north stand section 409 now housed in lisbon lions section 113 different view of the match entirely.

I felt we were a tad rusty first half.

Improved second half got the vital lead and onwards and upwards so long as we have another good 90mins on Sat then avoid defeat a week today.

  27. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

Just in from the game…….great performance, but we need to take our chances …….team improving all the time, though……wish Sammi wouldn’t let his head go down just because he makes a couple of mistakes ……he was brilliant, though……as was the whole team ……night all….knackered….LOL

  28. How can we lose against a team who havent played a competitive game this season? Against a team in a crap league like Scotland.

Antti Muurinen’ tactics were pathetic. Celtic glasgow could have scored about five times in that second half and we only scored through a jammy deflection.

    Sack the Board!

  29. Lubo's two feet on

Not a bad performance for the first game of the season. For us I think it was just about getting the first goal, by half time it seemed like one of those games that you could play forever and never score. We could of been ahead after the first ten seconds, I’m sure if it had been a few games into the season hooper would of slotted that first chance away.

We made helsinki look better than they actually were. A couple of times we lost the ball in silly places, even joe uncharacteristically lost the ball a few times which shows we are still rusty!

Just didn’t click tonight, the hooper/forrest collision summed tonight up, the potential is there, just needs a couple of games. Pretty confident for the return leg, main aim there is to get one goal and we should be solid enough not to lost 3.

    Hail Hail

  30. Just back! 5year olds first game too!

    Bizzare game?

Looked like we were playing a friendly?? Lack of movement and lack of urgency till they scored!!!!

We will get a result there .
