Very tough watch yesterday.
To me it looked like the players were struggling to implement what they were coached to do.
Disjointed in many area of the pitch – always makes individuals look poor.
After the two consecutive defeats in December I got the impression the players grabbed the situation by the scruff of the neck – four wins (incl. comfortably beating Sevco) while playing okayish but nothing more.
I genuinely expected the trend to continue and even improve slightly in the period immediately after the break.
If anything?
IMHO, our second half at Pittodrie, and the full games against Hibs and Kilmarnock – we looked worse by a margin.
What’s happened?
Well the injury/availability situation hasn’t improved.
CCV and AJ injured. Liel not right.
But also, Adam Sadler (ex Leicester) joined the coaching team (announced Hogmanay)
Think it is reasonable to assume the Brendan coaching manual has been reinforced by Adam.
With no evidence whatsoever … I suspect Brendan is forcing the team through the final transition away from Ange ball.
And that transition is difficult and painful.
What happens next?
Who knows.
IMHO, CCV is massive for us.
We get his calmness and leadership back we’ll automatically be a better team.
If the Brendan/Adam coaching philosophy takes soon (and is actually any good 🤔) there is a chance we’ll click into gear.
Alternatively, we might just be a team that is a bit done.

THE BIGGER PICTURE#
German football matches have been stopped regularly in recent weeks as part of an ongoing protest involving throwing tennis balls, gold chocolate coins and apples onto the field to voice their anger against foreign investment in the German top-flight. The fans are demanding an end to a controversial plan from the league to sell a stake of future revenue to a private equity investor. The campaign to stop it was given a boost this week when prospective buyer Blackstone dropped out of talks. However, there remains one more leading candidate in the shape of CVC Capital Partners.

In the summer transfer window we brought in about ten players, most were in the pipeline, before BR arrived, none were BR signings.
However, he made all the right noises, was showing himself as a team player by being supportive of the Executive and the Recruitment process.
It quickly became apparent that, that window was a clusterfugg.
Anyway at the AGM and in the press realises, there after, the Board made out Brendan had “signed off on all the players”.
Exonerating the Executive and Recruitment process.
If they are going to play the blame game and drop BR in it, he has every right not to rubber stamp every prospect.
He was very particular as he clearly had stated he only wanted established players that would improve the team.
He has every right to do so.
You are making it out like this was an underhand covert action, playing games with the Board.

He couldn’t have been clearer in his press conference after the window shut
He said we needed to be braver.
It is ridiculous to suggest he was biting off his nose to spite his face, there is absolutely no evidence that he was offered a quality signing that would improve the team.
Brendan Rodgers will have belief in his own ability and for very good reason, it’s hardly arrogance if it’s based on facts and a verifiable track record.

In short, anybody that wanted to attend had the opportunity to do so..
Ad always respect for the fans who made the time, effort and finance to attend.
This shouldn’t really need to be explained to a football fan but here goes…
Palma although infuriating at time has been by far one of our most productive players this year. 18 direct goal contributions in 28 matches. 18 goal contributions in 1726 minutes. He’s pretty much setting up or scoring every 90 minutes.
Only Matt O’Riley has contributed more (very slightly) and he’s played 1000 hours more.
So Palma can create and score, he’s also relatively good at pressing.
His lack of top end pace limits him as a winger. But number 10s don’t generally need to rely on rapid acceleration. He also likes to cut in. He’s also pretty good at shooting from distance, so having him central would just make sense.
Do you really not see that?
Maybe Rodgers puts him there and for whatever reason it just doesn’t work, but his strengths and weaknesses align much more to playing behind the striker than it does on the wing.
