The warning is in this message.

It is my view that we, as a club, need to defeat a strong club, so we can really start to go and compete at the CL level.

  2. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Celtic will do well to qualify for the group stages of the ECL; if, and it’s a big if, we make the draw we’ll likely end up in the Gripu of Death.

We’re going into next Wednesday’s gane on the back of no form, against a team that already have a fair number of competitive games under their belts.

  3. petec- If we can overcome HJK (a big if) I would prefer a draw v a weaker opponent. The group stages is where we must be at all costs, plenty of hard matches here!

  4. LiviBhoy – Best of luck for the new arrival. My first kept us waiting for 3 and a bit days after Mrs Craiginho’s waters broke. The second is on his or her way in September so I’m hoping this one is more punctual!

There may be some mileage in having a special area of CQN for new fathers where the lights are dimmed and there are no loud noises. Only calm, quiet praise of Sami and people silently doing the Brooney would be allowed.

Sleepless nights are worth it CSC

  5. Ziljina’s elimination by Hapoel Kiryat Shmona will have no effect on the play-off seedings as they (Ziljina) would not have been seeded for that round; Salzburg would have been seeded and them dropping out means that Zagreb will indeed take their place.

Provisional unseeded teams for play-off round:

    CFR Cluj

    Partizan Belgrade

    Helsingborg IF

Hapoel Kiryat Shmona or Neftçi PFK

    F91 Dudelange or NK Maribor

  6. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

Wonder why the dr doesn’t have a comments section now for the sevco stories …?? ……think we all know why…….

  7. You know I actually agree with Sevco, having to face ‘punishment’ for the misdeeds of other is against natural justice.

That said I don’t think they should be getting fast tracked into the SFL either. At least three years stable accounts and submit your application when a gap arises. As it surely must given the number of clubs that will fold without Rangers.

  8. Full provisional unseeded teams for play-off round:

    CFR Cluj or Slovan Liberec

    Partizan Belgrade or AEL Limassol/L*nfield ( 3-0)

Budućnost Podgorica/Śląsk Wroclaw (0-2) or Helsingborg IF/The New Saints (0-0)

Hapoel Kiryat Shmona or Neftçi PFK

    F91 Dudelange or NK Maribor

Simple and should be repeated daily until it is accepted as fact. Which it is.

    Rangers will always be Rangers.

  10. Celtic could use a bit of luck let’s face we got none in our group selection last year…

Last night was okay a lot of negative talk on here about Celtic but Norwich like at Carrow road are a team who defend well in numbers, I’m guessing they’re used to play like that in the EPL, a team of survivors if you ask me.

They were unnecessarily rough I thought to the detriment of several of our players, I found myself wishing we had a Davie Hay or a Roy Aitken last night.

I thought Paddy played well in the middle last night along with Ki he is the best passer of the ball at the club but somehow I still have a wee voice in my head that tells me that he’s not at the top of Neil’s list of midfielders.

My main concern last night and this is from watching on TV of course is our movement when the passer has the ball or the lack of it several times I found myself screaming at the screen Move FFS.

Rusty we are and realistically speaking we should struggle against these slick efficient European teams but thank Ghod I’m not that realistically minded.

Celtic to beat Helsinki, receive a decent play off draw and to progress to the Group Stages.

    Forza Young Twardzik..

And did I mention we need some re-inforcements..

  11. Craiginho

Waters broke Monday morning. Today is the day!

Love the idea of a silent Broony. I will be doing this at some point today in the hospital car park. A must for all new fathers!

Mrs LB is crashed out so I’m left reading one of the red tops. The Record is abysmal. I’m not even touching the Sun or the rest.

  12. Going back to the previous thread, my local team (AS Monaco), in the French second division, are advertising season tickets starting from €76. It does seem a bargain in comparison to Sevco’s prices.

  13. Difficult to know what to make of the latest from the Kinning Park bunker.

Either it’s a cunning ploy by Green to dump them completely and sell the assets for flats – (“we were nearly there, all but agreed with the SFA, only the SPL and their vindictive EBT/dual contracts issue beat us…”)…

…Or they are REALLY, REALLY worried at what might come out. I suspect Mark Daly’s second film only scratched the surface and I think they fear full disclosure could lead to serious – as opposed to pretendy – sanctions…

Whatever, it’s a truly appalling failure of leadership from Regan and Doncaster. This entire fiasco is not nearly as complex as is made out. The rules are clear and all the authorities have to do is follow them.

But if they are minded to bend the rules for Sevco, then they should bear in mind that it is still the authorities – not Sevco – who hold the whip hand. The sight of Green and McCoist demanding anything after all their club(s) have wrought on Scottish football, is truly boak-inducing.

And as for the latest news that Dean Shileds is to be offered 7k a week in Div3… Either this is simply a lie; or Green will have Sevco bankrupt within six months as well…

  14. LiviBhoy… good luck to you and the missus. My second arrived a few days before last Christmas. Greatest present ever.

I don’t share your pessimism about next week. I think Celtic will get through this test easily enough. And that may mean by a controlled 1 goal margin or 2 or 3.

IF we get to that Final qualifier Celtic will be up to full speed by then and it will be much easier playing as the underdog given the ages of this team, and the drive and passion of the Celtic support.

I’d settle for a team that has not really played any or many games competitively by that time. :))

  16. The Battered Bunnet on

Prescient stuff Doc. Gripu is Latvian for influenza. We’ll probably end up with a gripu including the Spanish. Cue a series of flu puns.

That was a great night shift, well, for the lurker anyway!

My wee one (now 12) was also born at St Johns, so you I believe you are all in good hands there.

Best wishes and keep the updates coming.

I commented on the movement aspect last season. My mantra at the game (probably to the annoyance of those around me ) is “c’mon Celtic, run about a bit”. I want our players to be desperate for the ball.

I thought the young guys did ok and I thought Commons played himself into the game. Paddy wasn’t bad and if Murphy (not for me) was switched on I think Paddy’s pass would have played him in.

Lenny must, IMO start with Rogne (don’t think he’s been at his best in the freindlies) and Chuck at the back against HJK.

  19. Good morning Lennybhoy, Sixtaeseven, Googybhoy,Tomthetim, bright morning in Dublin with promise of sunshine later 21 degrees, although Donegal getting the best weather as usual.

Large improvement in performance and you could see their reflex fitness a lot sharper. A few pluses including a fitter Commons, Luztig an improved player and comfortable enough on left side when switched. Sammi ofcourse taking great pressure of team, but needs a fit Izzy to go past him down left (which will come). McCourt could become a revelation this year if he plays in same area as Pirlo, but need two ball winners like Brown and Kayal playing.

Hooper should be told to report to training 2 weeks before the rest.

It was very evident again last night that players are not encouraged to arrive at near post early when crosses come over from right (Larsson style), on 4 occasions this happened in second half. Last year we could have another 10 goals minimum if this happened.

Tomthetim, going up to Gweedore on Friday and hope to attend the CQN AGM on 4th Aug.

  20. Eurochamps67 on

As long as the first leg has HJK zero, we will be ok.

BTW I have not seen any of our preseason games or HJK so I don’t know if I am allowed an opinion.

  21. petec- Sorry if I misled you, I am not pessimistic about next week, far from it-but tend not to count my chickens.

Having been at the game last night I am quite upbeat, of the starting 11 I reckon only 3- Wanyama, Izzy, Samaras- will def start v HJK, so this was far from our strongest XI and we did ok against a reasonable PL side.

EC67 your granny’s hoose is not a Big Hoose by any chance? Hope you are enjoying the sun!

I thought the due date was 8th August to witness our European qualification?

Or is this a breakaway meeting to which I have not been invited in order to discuss breakaway resolutions and a separate TV deal?

  23. Philbhoy

Staff have been superb. St John’s is a credit to Livingston. The nurses did tell me a horror story about their pay. I was speaking to one last night who was/wasn’t a Rangers fan. Lovely woman. She was rightly complaining about their lack of wage rise and other issues around pensions. I lost interest in her plight when she said Rangers/Sevco had been punished enough. I mentioned the missing tax monies and the effect on her wages and she seemed to think it was all lies. The good ole Scottish Meeja. The average man and woman on the street doesn’t have a clue!

    Still no baby!!!

  24. Good to hear less negative talk on here after last night .. In oz so didn’t see the game.

How fit is commons and izzy looking?

Good to hear paddy had good game, hope Neil finally see’s that paddy is prob our best playmaker. There should be a position found for him esp home games against spl teams. Midfield of sammi kayal ledley and forest with McCourt behind hooper will entertain and make parkhead a fortress this year.

  25. May I throw a little general Olympic question to the board … previously Amateur status only, now full of Professionals – has the Olympic ideal crashed and competitors are now paid for services directly, or just through sponsorship/attendance fees?

Just a question being bandied about the office, and no-one quite sure.

    Thanks for any input.

  26. If we beat Helsinki have we got

    Another qualifier ?

I thought we were into group stages if we win against them.

In a way this is a make or break season for Big Tam Rogne until now we haven’t seen him fit for a whole season and until we do we don’t really know what we’ve got, he’s the best defender in my opinion at the club and I’m sure if he gets an extended run he will will improve no end.

The fact is we don’t have a big selection headache in central defence it’s Thomas plus one I would play Charlie in there as I’m not convinced with Victor as a centre half..

Norwich worked very hard when we had the ball and that is something that works very well for Celtic when we do it, haven’t seen that much of it so far in pre season, give it time I hope.

Interesting point tho’ last night from Mrs Starry after Grant Holt scored she said ” Is he a professional player? Why is he so fat?”

I think British football still has fitness issues, that Ajax team made us look like Sunday Pub Players from a fitness aspect..

Room for improvement always at Celtic, bring on the Inter..

  28. Speaking of the Olympics it was good of John Beattie to give a major act and what they will be doing away on Shortbread this morning. It was so schoolboy and “I know something you don’t”.

I’m not even that fussed about the whole thing, but it still made me a little peeved.

  29. Livibhoy

All the best to You and your good lady, and the wee yin when he/she makes his/her entrance into the world

    Enjoy the moment

  30. ItaliaBhoy@08:52

Regards possible SevCo wage offers. I was told that Beattie/Black will be earning £5-6k a week IF they sign. With the wage bill at it’s current level including Goian, Edu, Bocanegra, Wallace, Elbows,Broadfoot all earning over £10k per week, they would be facing financial meltdown before winter arrived

  31. Haven’t seen any pre season games, used to go to them but they are kick abouts, boring with funereal atmosphere. My brother went last night and said there were probably less than 10,000 in the stadium which says that most people agree that these games are not worth watching.

The game itself, he said was rubbish albeit Celtic played better in the second half. Also said that Norwich played 8-1-1 when they didn’t have the ball so doesn’t sound like much of a spectacle.

Will be there for the Inter game and as its an early afternoon kick off wilbe able to have a drink and some dinner in Glasgow after the game with Mrs RobinBhoy.

Hopefully there will be a crowd to gee up the players.

Can’t wait for the real stuff to begin.

Two days for the Huns to get a license, team and a bus to Brechin organised, what a laugh it would be if they failed…………

  32. With Portsmouth now desparately trying to get rid of there 8 top earners in order to remain open, will Lenny re-ignite his interest from last January in Erik Huseklepp?

  33. The Battered Bunnet on

    Nice moment last night.

Me, the youngster and my Dad were sitting in our new seats, the old fella having bought a season ticket for the first time in his puff, and us moving seats to get three together (thanks to Ann Marie in T/O). First time the three of of had been at Celtic Park together.

Anyway, it’s about 10 minutes into the game, and for no apparent reason whatsoever, my Dad starts laughing, fitfully, uncontrollably, like a kids who farts at church.

I said “Dad, what are you laughing at?”

And he replied through the tears and the belly ache….

    ….”Rangers”

  34. Morning all, Have Sky Sports dumped Scottish coverage ars noted on their advert in The Record yesterday and in a report this morning. If so I’ll be on to Virgin Media this morning to cancel the Sports package. To be honest The Sky Sports news channel concentrates almost exclusively on England and English matters whereas we are treated as just a little inconsequential back water. I don’t know how many subscribers Sky / Virgin have in Scotland that take the Sports package, but I would expect there to be a substantial increase in cancellations if they have dumped Scottish football.
