One way to make the league interesting this season is by playing Murphy, Bangura & McCourt in all the away matches.
McCourt will hopefully shine over the next two seasons.

The last time we played them in Helsinki I was in the home end, still got a few mates that live there……if we are ready for them we will beat them…….lets here your reasoning why we can’t
What is the Stars on
I havent seen Helsinki play but I feel Celtic will struggle, thats just based on our performaces so far this pre season and out performances in Europe against relatively modest opposition in the last few seasons (Sion,Braga,Utrecht etc)
We have players who are adequate for SPL (but only adequate) The former club Rangers were very poor for the last 3 or 4 years and yet they managed to win 3 league titles
We shouldnt fool ourselves, this is a poor Celtic team.
I dont blame anyone for that,fans/players/managers/boards whatever,I have no axe to grind,I hope we improve (we will eventually) but I expect nothing from Europe this year.
The good news is that average temps for early August in Philly is 87F.
I am less bleak about today’s game.
Contrast the amount of attempts on goal with Ajax.
And their goal was offside. My green tinted specs leave me in no doubt.

Iniquitous,
If i may,
‘. Does anyone else notice something that has driven me nuts about Celtic for years? Just watch Celtic players play a square ball. Does the ball go ahead of the receiving player to encourage him to move? Almost never. Most of the time it is delivered behind, absolutely killing any momentum’.
Iniquitous is 100% correct, And then some.
Mceough tonight at right midfield. Well short of a jersey. Running right through St Mirren’s defence to score is a thousand million miles away from being able to play for Celtic against AC Milan. No chance against Helsinki. No chance.
I thought Lustig actually looked quite comfortable when he moved into the middle, albeit for no more than a 20 minute or so cameo.
Seen David Weir walking up ot the game tonight, with a young lad, wonder if his boy is a bhoy?
Only heard him getting one piece of verbals, as he walked to the front door of the main stand, someone shouted “Hey Weir, is that you goin’ in to hand back your medals”.

Just in from the pub. Have not read previous posts. Watched that travesty stupefied by ennui. As a Celtic fan for over 50 years, it is difficult for me to believe the depths to which we have sunk.
Perhaps if all our ‘supporters’ paid to watch the team, instead of going to a pub to watch a stolen, illegal stream which denies our manager much-needed funds to buy players, we could afford a team that was up to your standards. Those of us who attended, while not delighted with two or three players, were nevertheless heartened by the improvement in performance.

WITS,
not having a go but how can you judge the opposition without
having seen them play, also why focus on poor european performances
why not think of recent ones against Rennes and Udinese,
A look at Helsinkis league record suggests they are vulnerable away from home
Just back from the game which was surprisingly entertaining for a pre-season friendly. Our overall performance was much better than I anticipated after the poor showing against Ajax though Norwich didn’t have the same pace, touch and movement which Ajax employed to turn us over so convincingly.
I thought Paddy McCourt was looking somewhat leaner and fitter than before and put in a good shift in the middle. Twardzik looked very comfortable, good touch and movement, and use of the ball. Sammi was a class apart.
Despite giving the ball away in the lead up to the goal, Wanayama impressed. His strength, anticipation and use of the ball suggest he should be a first pick, either at the back or in the middle. Lustig looked surprisingly comfortable all night, and Izzi did pretty well too.
Negatives – (1) Murphy, nothing tonight to suggest that we will ever be able to move him on; (2) Dillon McGeough showed no appetite to go beyond the defender and generally passed the ball sideways or back all night – he didn’t suggest that he would push his way into the starting eleven any time soon; (3) scoring goals seems to be secondary to nice passing and movement.
All things considered, I’m much more optimistic about the first CL hurdle even without bringing in fresh blood. But we do need a CH and a striker if we want to progress to the group stage.

Its true I cant judge how good or bad Helsinki are.My opinion that Celtic will struggle against is based on Celtics form and previous (early season) European games.Where I think Helsinki will have a distinct advantage is they are apparently 17/18 games into their league season.Thats a lot of competitive games to have under your belt.I hope to be proven wrong but I am not anticipating Champions League participation for Celtic this year
not packed to the rafters but a nice atmosphere nonetheless
always a joy to visit Celtic Park
just checked the vid
goal was onside
came from a bit of faffing about…
Emilio had possession and played a somewhat unnecessary pass thro to Big Vic – the big man had 3 players round him but nonetheless the fact he was dozing and not up on his toes didn’t help – lost possession, the rest is history
Emilio and Vic had a bit of an exchange after the event
additional problem was that Big Fraser twisted his leg at that point via the initial shot from Jonny Howson
hope the big man is gonna be ok – we need him !
good to see Paddy heavily involved and captain at one stage
i’d like to have seen Dylan play 90mins at centre-mid
– maybe this will happen in time to come
Dylan’s no really a right midfielder and he’s certainly no a right-back (as he was v Aalen)
he’s a CM
never happy to get beat !!
that’s the only thing
but rather get beat in a friendly as they say
than a competitive match

Wasn’t at the game tonight, but, reading the team lines, I would suggest that any Helsinki scouts will have learned very little about Celtic from watching the game.
I think there was only one starter tonight who is a definite for next week ! izzy, and a couple of probablez – Sammi and Rogne.
As for the other eight, most will be lucky to get on the bench.
If it is true that NL was watching them tonight, he will have learned relatively more.
Gut feel is we will find it difficult next week , but so long as we don’t concede at home, we will go through.

cheers for a reasoned reply, unlike some you get on here,
i have only had a look at their league record and their away form is poor,
losing 5 from 9,also they are playing in front of crowds of less than 3000
i think a full house at home will rattle them and a decent performance should give
us a good enough lead to take to Finland

Tonight we were far too slow getting the ball into the box and too often when it did go in there were not enough players in there to threaten their goal.
