Why do Bedouin tribespeople insist on wearing black under the desert sun?

    Just asking, like.

Firstly let me agree that its nice to be able to exchange views without insulting each other as many on here do.To be honest I have been guilty of it myself and even stopped posting for a while because of all the silly rows and sniping that goes on.We should be able to express different opinions about the team or board or state of the game without getting involved in insults,But people on here can be very passionate about their views which if course can be a good thing.

Back to Helsinki,I agree we shouldnt really be afraid of them but I am just not convinced about this Celtic team in Europe.(How many early goals have we conceded)

It would be great to stuff Helsinki,go on to the group stages (though I think we have another playoff game before that) and play some serious European football at a packed and bouncing Parkhead.

  3. HT,

Yer right there! I wonder if the shootie-in stuff is this week. Thought that some of the attempts at possession were not bad, Twardzic looks promising, and the no.67 was reliable as ever (apart from at the goal;)) but we do seem to lack the creativity. I gather Johann Mjalby tweeted along those lines, suggesting that is the next priority. We live in hope!

  4. Oops. Hadn’t finished..

SteveBhoy at 23 .49 . I’m 3000 miles away. I watched it on Celtic TV. How do you suggest I contribute?

Itsaboutatim at 23.53. Agreed that Commons and Lustig hit the bar. We still got beat. Where are the goals going to come from? Please don’t tell me Bangura and Murphy.

  5. !!Bada Bing!! on

Tonight proves that entrance money should not be charged for training sessions against reserve teams, cue Inter on Saturday.Murphy is up there with Joe Filippi ,Roy Kay,Wayne Biggins etc etc ,as one of the worst i’ve seen in The Hoops,he’s 27 and with another transfer before he chucks it,he will leave the beautiful game a millionaire…..

Passmarks to Samaras,Lustik,Commons and Twardzik was very good.We should have played the team we are planning to play Helsinki IMO.

  6. I was at the game and thought that we performed better than we have recently. Not much flair in the Norwich team but they were strong and pacy. We edged the first half and were well on top in the 2nd but still lost 1:0 because we were not very incisive in front of goal. Two clear chances for Giorgios (one of them made by a glorious slip pass from the slagged-off Dylan McGeoch), a brilliant Commons shot, and two good headed chances from Lustig but we were a bit shy about attempting attacks, preferring to go back and recycle.

Overall, a mixed bag. A definite improvement but we need to get the scoring boots on. Inter are unlikely to give us a confidence boosting goal fest so we will have to click against HJK at home.

I would not bet against us beating HJK – much more important than the Real Madrid jaunt, as is the Aberdeen game.

I have not yet bought my Inter ticket but they worked the old emotional blackmail on me by showing the 67 Cup Final on the Big Screen at half time. I’ll be buying my ticket tomorrow and I intend to enjoy the game.

Yep I too was impressed with Twardzik, his pace of pass and movement were a definite positive.

Still unsure whether Vic is better utilised at centre half or centre midfield.

Lol, got me in one! You must know what I mean. Fifty years puts you just ahead of me… I remember guys in the Jungle watching the Lions giving Luggy pelters (‘no’ Celtic class…’) and one guy hated Willie Wallace, with another, it was big Hughes… Our job is to support the team, enjoy the occasion, and pass the club on to the next generation. Let’s face it, many people support clubs who don’t provide half the trophies, never mind half the pleasure that we get at Parkhead.

  9. Celtic First at 00.08. Good point. Berbers, Tuaregs and the Bedouin swaddle themselves in dark clothing, as do Mediterranean women of several cultures. The clothing traps air which insulates from both heat and cold.

Doesn’t work for tight football strips though, unfortunately.

  10. I think Vic is a star. He will make Celtic a bundle – too soon, unfortunately!

  11. Good morning friends from a dark but drizzly East Kilbride. This jet lag’s a wierd sensation. Time for another beer in the hope that I then sleep and do a more sensible weather report later this morning.

  12. WITS,

i think we will have enough to get through this

qualifying round, but we will probably need to draw one of the weaker teams in

the next round if we are to qualfy for the group stages,

i feel that a full house next week will certainly rattle the Finns

  13. Sftb

Agree about Dylan’s burst through and pass to Sammi.

Might be an idea to try him in the middle?

  14. Must say, the GB were on form tonight. Whittaker didn’t lie it at all…

Off to bed. Goodnight, bhoys. Remember, it could be worse… We could be in D3!

I know all about the colour black and not reflecting light but you really thing us wearing a black strip in the heat is going to effect us as much as say wearing the hoops?

The players live in a country that hasn’t seen the sun in about 4 years, they are getting hot and sweaty no matter what they wear.

Oh and as posted above why do people in desert regions wear black?

  16. Ellboy - I am Neil Lennon, YNWA. on

I thought we played much better tonight, good passing and pace in the team the problem comes is our lack of good forward play. Our strikers can’t hold the ball up and this puts the whole team under pressure. Even when they do control it, it’s all very predictable. Out to the wing for an aimless cross into the box. This is out dated football & in the short term only coaching or better quality forwards will solve it.

However I’m more interested in the long term. We have a unique opportunity to stride forward during the next 3 to 5 years with little pressure on week in week out results. Not sure if it would be possible but we should be putting all our resources into Spanish coaching. Why not pay for the best to teach us their methods. Perhaps work with the under 19’s for a season and then bring these players into our first team next season. Might take us a while to get things right but why not use this period too improve and make us light years ahead by the time Sevco appear again?

Well after climbing to sect 444 (FFS), calfs & hammies nearly popping!

The Guinness in Bar 67 was good during the 2nd half:-)

As for the 1st half, crap first fifteen mins (both teams) then we should have been 5-2 up by half time.

Glad to see Whitteverheis limping off (Tis usually a Red Card for him in Paradise).

Norwich were surprisingly VIOLENT, how VAUGHAN wasn’t told to be subbed after his assault on Zaluska well, it was Calamity Murray.

As soon as I saw the team and Murphy was playing, I would have been in Bar 67 after 20 mins if I could have moved:-))

    To sum up: No Bad!

  18. !!Bada Bing!! on

itsabouttim-We have a couple to come back in,but our speed of pass and forward movement is a big worry for me.Helsinki will be a well organised, fit team of 8-9 guys 6′ 2 plus.We are still weak in lots of aspects of football imo.

  22. Wow. Lots of negativity.

Didn’t see the game nor any of preseason so far so take from that what you will.

Firstly. To use length of membership as an argument but use tonight to post your first (or at least, most opinionated) opinion ON THE BACK OF A FRIENDLY doesn’t exactly qualify the argument.

I can say this from experience having been ‘accused’ a coupla times in the past because what I’ve posted has not been favourable to some (possibly many). I’m not one for going all out on the team after a supposedly bad result, just some attitudes at times from some fans. Admittedly bigger fans than me I’m sure but there’s a bit of devils advocate with it, but the team get whatever positivity can be attached to the negatives if I talk about them.

Secondly. If there’s a physicist who’ll argue about black absorbing heat and white reflecting, can he also explain thermal equilibrium while he’s at it cos it may have a bearing? Colour is not the only factor at play. This also goes into fitness. It surely isn’t just physical? Well maybe it is. But it would be nice to have all factors at play being explained and accounted for without jumping one point and making it the be all and end all.

Thirdly. MNCelt. I too went to st Thomas’. I lived in the house across the road next door to st enochs. If you were dealing with conductors (no physicist required in this sense) then you’re a bit more mature than me but you might have known one of my 4 brothers or even my sister, Annette.

It might be annoying (or unsurprising) to know that sister Brendan was still a dragon til her last days there. She retired just as I went to the mungo and as a gift, she got a park bench with a plaque on it. How fitting that she gets to sit her fat arse on something, judge it and whinge when she made a career out of it.

Anyhow. So whit if we get knocked out of Europe? We sell a coupla bodies, support the books, invest in youth and continue to buy up talent from unknown leagues and groom them for profit. Meanwhile, the standard of the league goes up as it gets more competitive and in a few short years the inexperience usually shown by the likes of utd, well, and county/athletic/kirk/thistle/whoever, gets taken over by the knowledge to operate against teams from overseas without getting horsed.

In those few short years, we might not be great shakes, but solvent, developing and structured with a long term plan that is collective with the entire Scottish game.

The guff of the last few years won’t suddenly disappear this season, so look to the future. It’s all good.

Tell me about it. We had 103F last Wednesday but a humungous thunderstorm that would have flattened Victor cooled things down a wee bit.

Yesterday and today have been cool but a wee bit humid. (My tomato plants are loving it)

  24. Night all. I’m going to bed feeling better about things than I did on Saturday but never-the-less it’s about time we scored a goal.

  25. The huddle at 00.22.

See post at 00.07. Wearing voluminous robes that trap insulating air is not the same as wearing a football strip. I have travelled across the Sahara from Mauretania to Libya wearing Arab clothing and was grateful for it. But try wearing a black T-shirt in 40C, then compare it to a white T-shirt. When Scotland played the US here recently, we were in our traditional dark blue, with the US in white. After 5 minutes, the Scots were absolutely lathered. Check out the film clips and look at Broonie after 5 minutes. Face bright red, with sweat streaming. We got gubbed 5-1, due to a clear difference in class, but our strip didn’t help.

Ahhh that’s better, been a while since I read a “I’ve been a Celtic fan for insert however many years”

It dispairs you the depths we have sunk, 50yrs following Celtic??

I’m only 31 so can’t lay claim to being a stalwart like you, but in my life watching Celtic I could name you many a year and team when we were in the depths of dispair.

Now, as champions preparing for our first game, no, no dispair here.

In those glorious 50years supporting Celtic did the years we won the square root of the cash in sevcos bank account slip your mind?

I grew up in the huns 9 in a row era, no Celtic league win for 10 long years no cup win for god knows how long either. Going to a delapidated stadium with barely 30k people there.

Depths of dispair? Perhaps, good and bad times happen. but now after winning the league and not having played a single competitive match???

    Catch yourself on.

I dare say after we pump Helsinki home and away you will then be again in the depths of dispair as we will have no chance in the next leg.

Ad I said the other day, I do wonder some folks motives.
