The success of Victor Wanyama and Virgil Van Dijk in England has caused people to look at Scottish football differently

Victor Wanyama celebrates scoring against Barcelona

Hooper was the main man in attack for the Hoops again the following season, finishing with 19 league goals.

Celtic had a rather shaky start to the campaign, winning just two of their opening five league games.

But they went on an impressive run of form from November, losing just once in 13 games.

Victor Wanyama also enjoyed a brilliant season in midfield, with his goal in the famous 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League among the highlights.

Both Hooper and Wanyama departed the club for Norwich and Southampton respectively at the end of the season.

Kris Commons is one of three Bhoys to be nominated for PFA Player of The Year

The Hoops very nearly enjoyed an unbeaten league campaign three years before the heroics of the Invincibles, with their only defeat coming to Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Kris Commons had arguably his best season in a Celtic jersey as Neil Lennon’s side wrapped up the title with seven games to spare.

The winger netted 27 times to finish as the league’s top scorer, beating his now Sky Sports co-pundit Kris Boyd by five, as Fraser Forster set a new Scottish Premiership record of 13 clean sheets in a row.

Forster’s duties were made somewhat easier by Virgil van Dijk, who joined the club from Dutch side Groningen in the summer of 2013. He was named in the SPFL Team of the Season along with Commons and Forster.

Scott Brown was also as important as ever.

  5. 2014-15

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths doubles his side’s lead (Image: Sns group)

Ronny Deila ‘s first season in charge saw a number of new faces don the green and white hoops.

Among them were Jason Denayer, Stefan Johansen, Stefan Scepovic and Craig Gordon, who joined the club the month before Fraser Forster moved to Southampton, while Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven both joined from Dundee United in the January transfer window.

Leigh Griffiths was the main man in front of goal during his first full season at the club, having joined from Hibernian in January, 2014. He netted 14 league goals, while Commons was key again, scoring ten times.

Johansen and John Guidetti also scored their fair share of goals, as did Anthony Stokes. This season also saw Callum McGregor break into the first team.

Think a good few of the players should be allowed some rest before the cup final.

Then again the likes of wee James Forrest might want to keep playing on.

2015-16 was the season that saw Kieran Tierney really break through at Celtic.

Having made just two appearances for the Hoops in 2014-15, the left back became a key man for Deila’s side in this campaign and was named Young Player of the Year and included in the Team of the Year.

Leigh Griffiths enjoyed his most prolific season in front of goal, netting 40 times in all competitions, with 31 of those coming in the league.

Tom Rogic was another key man in midfield, alongside the likes of Nir Biton and Kris Commons, while Patrick Roberts became an instant star after joining on loan from Manchester City in January. He found the net six times in 13 league games.

Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko were two new defensive signings.

  8. Just seen the 4th goal on the news there

That Referee is still a cheating knob – he wasn’t give the clear penalty, just before the Aussie Bhoy put it in the net

Brendan Rodgers’ first season in the hot seat at Celtic saw the club go the entire campaign undefeated domestically as they clinched the treble.

New signings Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele became instant hits, with the latter netting a hat-trick in his first ever derby match against Rangers.

Leigh Griffiths continued his impressive goalscoring record, finding the net 18 times in the league.

Scott Brown was key throughout the campaign, as was Stuart Armstrong who scored some cracking goals over the season.

The Celts netted 106 times in total in the league, with the likes of Tom Rogic, Patrick Roberts, Callum McGregor and James Forrest all playing their part.

  10. 2017-18

    Scott Brown (Image: SNS Group)

The Invincible season was always going to be a tough one to follow, but Celtic are incredibly on the brink of completing back-to-back domestic trebles.

Scott Brown has enjoyed another very consistent campaign alongside Olivier Ntcham in midfield, while James Forrest has looked very good at times also.

Brendan Rodgers has rotated his strikers quite a bit these season, with Leigh Griffiths, Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard all playing their part.

The Hoops have undoubtedly had some defensive problems, particularly in Europe, but youngsters Kristoffer Ajer and Jack Hendry offer some hope for the future.

  12. In my family life, with the job I have, how I spend my free time, as a season book holder, I’m not sure I’ve ever been happier than I am today! What a way to SPRINT across the finish line. Our SEVENTH title secured, 3 games to practice (and/or rest players) for the cup final. 20 sleeps (I think!)

  14. A fantastic day that started off with a great Coias breakfast with some excellent CQN company (and ACGR). We even had time for a pint before we left!

Back home and I sat and watched the whole thing again on Sky. Boyd was brutally honest in saying Gerrard will be having second thoughts and they don’t have a single player who would even make our bench! Even if Rangers seen £10M to £15M CELTIC CAN JUST GO AGAIN.

As for the game itself, we were magnificent from start to finish. Not a failure in the team; a magnificent backline with Boyata faultless. Brown and Ntcham imperious again. McGregor, Rogic and Forrest bamboozled their midfield and defence – with McGregor the pick of the 3. However, Odsonne Edouard absolutely battered their backline from start to when he went off near the end. Both his goals were fantastic. Mrs VFR was watching the re-run with me and commented “that young guy does a fantastic amount of work for the team” when Edouard set up the 5th goal. GET HIM SIGNED!

Great time to be a Tim. A double treble is only 1 game away!

Scotrail and First Bus out of Dalmuir this morning was a scandal. Left my flat at 8.50 got into Glasgow City Centre at 11.10. They never spoiled my party. Today is one of the best Celtic days of my life. Rebel tunes blasting from pubs and hooses all through Dalmuir just now. Dalmuir streets full of weans and adults in Hoops singing Championees to each other.

Best times of our life R.

Maybe he mistook you for Super Leigh. Either way, he is now a roasted superfud thanks to wee Jamesy.???.???

  17. Folks, I had the pleasure today of doing something I have been waiting a long time to do. After the game me and the lad went to the superstore. After we came out of the superstore we passed the Sky trailer area. KC was there with KB, Hurting Hayleigh was there too but the one I wanted a word with was Andy the soup taker. I waited my time calls Andy over, (think he though we were after a photo). Andy says I, I have been meaning to ask you for a long time “why have you never a good word to say about Celtic?” Should have seen his face!!!! Not happy, I went on to tell him that his main interest was keeping his pay masters happy. I used the example of John Hartson and other ex Celt pundits who promote Celtic, his response was “are you for real” yes says I, along with thousands of others, you need to check your popularity amongst the support Andy. I left smiling and said to my boy I’ve been waiting to get that off my chest for a long while. Champions again as you know. My pints are tasting even nicer tonight!!!!

Halliday epitomises der hun. No brain, no talent, ugly snarling coupon. I blame his parents and schooling.

We are 7 in a row Champions.

    Andy is a superfud.

  22. A comment from Hun Media:

That Flannigan **** is another that needs rooted out along with the rest. Got the job because he was David Weir’s pal.

So many people in so many positions at our club that aren’t fit for purpose. I hope it doesn’t happen but it’s almost like we need another administration to clear literally everyone out and start again.

That’s how bad it is for them!

  23. I have just watched the game back too.

I have to say Andy Walker actually sounds as if he was enjoying it.

He even threw in how his Dad was at the 7.1 game.

    Beautiful Sunday.

    Hail Hail

  24. To be fair to Halliday, he made a point of going round every Celtic Player at the end of the game. He was tortured by Forrest; he was tortured by the crowd but in my book he gets a wee bit of credit for that. It would have been very easy for him to GTF as soon as the white went.

Anyone got a link to a full re run online anywhere??
