Auldheid. I agree it’s always nice have cash for a rainy day

But in our case we don’t plan for CL. We gamble on getting there every year and if gamble does not come off then we sell

    No plan no ideas

Cash now involved in CL is approx 25m. It now is a corporate failure not to achieve this

    =====================

You cannot have it both ways. Last night it was complaining about not spending whilst tonight recognising that it might not be a bad thing.

The thing is I don’t know what our plans or thinking are, I just try to think of an explanation that makes more corporate sense than PL feathering his pension nest with the Boards approval.

As I said above I’m dead against CL dependency but for all Scottish clubs not just us because the money that is earned causes a huge skew to domestic competition for the regular winner and I’ve seen first hand what RFC did that has had disastrous corruptive consequences for the integrity of our game in pursuit of UEFA geld.

  2. Morning bhoys nd ghirls.

Been oot, and have partaken in far too many Gin and Tonics, much more refreshing than the vino when it’s mid 30s.

Anyways, Barca struggled tonight against a team that have a 10th or less of their budget, Real blew Betis away, me, the moral, well work it out.

    Oh and I am drinking a G & T out of a bottle thro a straw.

  3. Sydney….

I love that you stick to your guns even though I think you go too far.

On other issues you criticise with a degree of balance, which I can acknowledge even when disagreeing with you!

But when PL hove’s into view it seems, I could be wrong, a jaundice takes over which blights any attempt at considered thought.

Although you are right that we have been careless (maybe worse) with player recruitment and spending I do acknowledge the club has a hugely difficult task in recruiting the best players AND keeping them for more than 24 months.

It’s also true our mistakes are a drain on our resources….hugely funded clubs can shrug off their mistakes (of course all clubs make recruitment mistakes), and as such we should have taken more care than we seemingly have.

PL will take the advice and judgement of the football management team in deciding which players to pursue and/or follow up…its a football decision limited by cash availability.

I don’t think PL is perfect but his task is difficult and accusations of self aggrandisement above all else I don’t think is fair and bears little relationship to the facts.

Anyway…keep posting….keep challenging so the more contented among us can be jolted out of our reverie occasionally!!!

    HH

  4. Justafan. PL and his cohorts are utterly discredited. Gone.

They have presided over nothing but failure.

  5. coolmore mafia on

Neganon, if you were in charge, how would you solve the numerous issues we face, like competing in the transfer market, league federalisation, the hun, being competitive enough for the CL?

  6. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Seems there’s some disagreement with the rights and wrongs of the GB banner yesterday.

Nothing wrong wi a friendly disagreement,of course. And little wrong wi the banner either.

What do you think it should have said? ‘Thanks for raising our profile in Europe and showing everyone why we are The Greatest Club in The World’

‘BBGWDM,Peter. You improve the team year on year’

I’ll give you all a wee question. If your son/nephew/grandson,whatever,wanted a Celtic strip for his birthday, you’d be faffin delighted.

    Course you would.

What would you say if he wanted a particular player’s name on the back of it?

    Think about that.

  7. I am 58. I have (mostly) always thought that Celtic could do better. That of course, is why out having detailed knowledge as to the challenges the Club faced.

    I feel that way now.

But I don’t have the anger and hatred within me that Sydney Tom and Neganon have.

What you display in your comments doesn’t seem healthy.

I hope right aspects of your lives are on a better track.

  8. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    WEERON

Perhaps their anger is symptomatic of a frustration widely felt, that we went from one set of owners ripping the pish to another.

Of course,in the old days none of us were shareholders so weren’t entitled to a say. Changed days, many of us are entitled to our say at the AGM. Due to that shareholding.

You ever tried to raise your voice at one? Or won a vote that was decided in advance?

  9. I like Ronny, but I do have reservations.

    1) Was it wise to talk-up the treble last year – he will think twice this year.

    2) Was it wise to start the Ronny Roar – it will be used very sparingly in future.

I posted last week that Ronny looked like a ‘rabbit in headlights’ before Malmo at his press conference – maybe it transferred to the squad.

Is it really a good idea to match up a young inexperienced (in our country) with a young inexperienced squad?

I personally do not believe that Ronny will be in charge st the end of the year,

All this stupid guff about Peter and the board is peddled by ill-informed people who have nothing intelligent to say, but simply like to hear their own voices,

Our chief executive provides a football wage budget of circa £35 million per year – does anyone with even a small brain think that by reducing the club’s total expenditure by the amount of Peter’s bonus of £250k and sacking him, will magically produce a tidal-wave of new money and result in big signings.

It was a shameful performance by the Celtic players, from a winning position on Tuesday night, that denied us of the biggest single season payout in our 127 year history.

If the performance on the park had matched the exemplary running of the club and all its business, we would have progressed into the CL on many more occasions.

Those who berate Peter Lawwell and the board must answer this question:

Tell us all, who would deliver more than the current incumbents, how much would that be, and how much debt would you be happy for the club to take on.

Anyone who can read accounts can see that all that comes in – goes out. It is obvious that most of the Peter/Board haters can’t understand figures – why don’t they ask someone who does, to explain to them.

Does anyone really believe that Peter Lawwell chooses the players we bring in?

Our inadequacy lies firmly in the football department – FACT

  10. Weeron I have largely led a successful but difficult life. From the streets of drum chapel to boardrooms of financial services companies I have learned much.

I have witnessed the signs of abject failure and greed and Celtic are demonstrating all of those signs. Arrogance, inertia, complacency.

That now describes the Celtic board.

They learn nothing. They espouse Moneyball whic never worked in the first place and as only ever about money.

I am angry. Raging actually. The cause that I love has been bastardised and perverted on the alter of men who had money but wanted more. They have exploited us and now shame us.

I am angry. But I recognise my angers futile. It’s clear to me we must now diminish horribly. Only at that point will the likes of you realise your mistake.

With every passing day you betray all of us.

  11. Nye Bevans' rebel soldier on

Back fae a night out,Celtic park was as flat as a pancake

today, don’t have the answers because I’m unsure of the

    question.

Maybe someone has footage of half time walkon at Ibrox

in 83,Celtic were 2-0 down, our star striker was about to

jump ship and Dundee Utd were about to win the league.

That walkon was the greatest ever,I hope we can find the

    spirit again.

    Goodnight Timland.

    PS…..we won 4-2.

  12. Mr Pastrey.

Hilariously you use the capitals when using the word fact. Which means it isn’t a fact but your warped view.

Everyone is to blame apart from those who are in charge you say. It’s ronnys fault not those who appoint him.

    You are celtics real problem.

You clawing fawning bullshit is the reason that PL survives.

He is killing is. Every day. More and more.

And you are cheering Lille a stupid clown fro, the sidelines.

You won’t be happy till the Huns are on top again,

    Fool

  13. Bye bevans I was at that game and I sang that walk on.

That spirit is dead an d gone.

    Celtic are dead.

  14. Bobby Murdoch. I can remember being a freshed faced teenager going into to Celtic shop about 1980. I wanted a poster

Murdo , frank , George , Davie Who should it be. Frank was the man

I remember taking my nephew in to the Celtic shop about 2002 to buy a strip. He spend about 30mins deciding which name was to be on the back. Neil was his choice

A mate of mine last year took his son Liam into Celtic shop to buy a strip

Which name did he put on it

    Liam was the choice

Funny if it wasn’t true :(

Just a fan indeed failures in transfer front are indeed magnified at our club due to lack of funds. The pukkibalde gate should have been sackings at the very top

So any comment about ‘Peter’ is as you describe yet you see fit to tell us we will sack our manager?

Away you tae f…,ya arse-licking b…..d. Panglossian attitudes like yours are what have allowed Lawwell et al to ruin Celtic from the high base gifted to them. Celtic are to football what Tesco are to the high street, betrayed and found out.

Disappointed at some of the stuff directed at you last night, btw. But frankly not surprised. All we can do is keep sniping.

And try to persuade some people that fortitude disnae mean saying-is that the best you can do-as they take turns to boot you in the baws. While arranging for RESOLUTION 12 to be neatly sidelined.

  18. The GB banner was an absolute disgrace and embarrassment.

Pleased to see that no-one on here is blaming Big Boyata for the OG. I wonder what the reaction would have been had it been Efe.

  20. Danny,ac. No the only disgrace is yours. You want to stifle opinion because you want false and forced harmony.

    Even a simple-I agree.

Life would be dull if PAUL67 posted his article and 1000 people came on here to say just that.

    ——————————————-

It depends on what the remit is, in all honesty.

There’s nobody as disappointed as I was when we didn’t qualify to the CL proper – Even ditched the Sky and got the Virgin Media in, the confidence was so high.

This is what it reads though – four league titles on the bounce, and top of the league at this moment in time. Debt free, with money in the bank.

Ye can’t argue with that, football supporters.

If the remit is CL group stage participation, then I agree with ya on that score – sack him.

    A comedy of errors, definitely.

We should have been going for the ten this season, gross incompetence and negligence the reason why it’s five.

But here, five sounds alright to me at this moment in time.

Stupid, silly mistakes – we keep shooting ourselves in the foot.

Also agree with ye about the bonus system – no good – cuts, savings dependent, nearly always results in detriment to the football club.
