We all, have our opinions, for me Celtic has always been about Celtic, until I read CQN, I don’t read any other fan sites, am still surprised Paul67 let me on because I could hardly make up a password, I don’t care about the boardroom, Peter Lawell could have left but he didn’t does that mean he is the bogey man, I think PL is doing a grand job, must do better with the lifeblood of the fans who go every week (ht & many more) but for me P67 has given me a wee vehicle to talk Celtic, from somebody who gave many years following our team, and by the way the way we were a lot more rubbish in the late 80s early 90s……..but Celtic is still Celtic !

Wee big George if you re reding this the morra just tell your dad thanks…. It’s great following the famous Glasgow Celtic ! (Apologies for the rant) Ronny must stay !!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Roycroppy …. Who are you, Hugh Keevins in disguise.

    Give it a rest.

Ronny has always done the Ronny roar. A sign of positivity between manager and fans after victory.

We should stop on what basis? That Hugh Keevins says so.?

    G.t.f

I’d like to see the figures published along with the risks in order to be sure the support at large know what they are.

Remember that what we spend could turn on the result of one qualifying match against champions of each country we face.

What I am absolutely against is us becoming dependent on CL money to support our spend, not just because of the risks to us but because of the corrupting effect on our game.

When survival depends on winning titles a club might be tempted to do anything to ensure winning and the national association might be prepared to do anything to keep such a club winning titles.

A lot more than RFC going bust happened when they embarked on a CL money dependency policy, Trust in football governance went out the window and it has not returned.

I’m all for prudent spending but find it difficult to draw the line between what constitutes that and becoming CL dependent to sustain it.

One of the risks I have not mentioned is that as sure as guns are iron, if TRFC start to challenge us for the title they will spend to win it knowing that the national association will do nothing to stop them whereas I’m not sure Celtic will enjoy the same latitude.

They hate the Ronny roar, the media love to make fun of it, as far as I am concerned it’s the fans who wait on it , Keevins the clown said today we’ll surely he can’t do it today, then went on to say Warburton has better full backs that Celtic………not sure why that’s got to do with Ronny

  5. Following the terrible refereeing decision which cost us dearly the other night, no matter how badly we played, Arsenal were denied a stonewaller after 11mins 47 seconds of play. I mention the exact time because, after 12 mins 7 seconds of play, Sky had shown 3 different views of the incident, each confirming the penalty. So it took 20 seconds to get a 100% correct decision using the available technology, much shorter than interruptions caused by players appealing, arguing and protesting.

There’s been a lot of talk about money in football this week. With so much at stake, I’m surprised that there hasn’t been more pressure from clubs to make use of replays/ a video referee, as they do in Rugby, American football and as tennis does with Hawkeye.

Goal line technology has been a success, so build on it and improve the game.

  6. Gerryfaebrig. I noticed your comment last night saying. Why would PL not try to get to CL as his bonus would be bigger

Sadly that is not the case. He had has had max bonus last few years ( info from accounts )

His drivers towards bonus is zero debt and cash in bank ( also mentioned in accounts a few years ago )

If CL qualification was part of his bonus we would see a better attempt

But at present why risk his own income trying to get to CL

Better off selling top players and having cash balance at AGM for his pension

    That’s why whole thing stinks

  7. Green Brigade giving Hun media their headlines for tomorrow . Why did they not go the full Hun way with a banner…We Deserve Better…..because being Celtic fans , we are…………….

  8. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

I thought we were gutless in Malmo, the midfield went into hiding. However, because it’s true doesn’t mean it’s helpful to put it up in a banner at CP. Don’t think the Board is clueless – they know exactly what they’re doing – they’re just not very good. We’ve become a feeder club to EPL makeweights and a place where they blood their young players to see if they’re any good or not. Fine when it’s Jason Denayer, but you don’t get to keep these guys more than a year, so you’re a team constantly in flux. How many successful teams are built and broken up annually? And how do you establish a proper bond with these guys passing through? This week is modern Celtic in microcosm: comprehensively lose to moderate opposition in the CL; marketing men respond by spinning furiously that despite that “we’re making progress” (we’re not); sell your best player to a club a fraction of your size; replace him with a young loan player who’ll be here for a year (if he’s any good). It’s ever decreasing circles year on year.

  9. Oh Jaysus sydney you are not starting on that pish again, Good Luck & God Bless You but you’ve just given e a great excuse to log off and go to bed.

  10. Cork. If Celts for change gave up like you say in 1993 then we wi you’re be all enjoying the white and Kelly’s still

He is a failure and has to go

  11. Gerryfaethebrig on

    SydneyTim

Do you think Mr Lawell is trying to hinder Celtic ?

By the way am just a normal Celtic supporter who, lives less than 10miles from the ground but can’t go for other issues, I think Mr Lawell is doing a good job, I have read loads about the board today, if my father was still breathing the same oxygen as me he would be delighted at where we are (stuff Celtic I would just be delighted to have him back) he probably would disagree because he never like my of our boards ! Kelly & co……

  12. Gordon64 it’s hilarious you are blaming fellow Celtic supporters for our deep malaise. But then again I blame the likes of you for allowing Lawwell and others to shaft us so comprehensively.

  13. Gerryfaethebrig on

    Sydney Tim

Keep at it but trust me, I don’t care if Celtic ŵin lose or draw, my love is the hoops

Take care and a very big

    Hail Hail from Cotbridge

  14. Neganon,

Its OK stop frettin, the board are meeting with a group of season ticket holding business men with global interests.

    I think the agenda is,

OK respected ones, give me ideas how to maximise the bonus

  15. Sidney Tim

Reading this it seems PL does get bonus for CL participation.

    http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/523645/Peter-Lawwell-Celtic-wage

What it does not say and what I would like to see in the interest of fully informed debate are what all the performance indicators are.

With regard to your other point about not spending profit: what I would do is use it to build up a reserve to cover the occasions when we do not qualify to save us having to sell players to make ends meet.

That does not solve the problem if a player we want to keep is determined to move.

I’m coming more to the conclusion that our biggest problem is the churn factor particularly at the start of our season when we have to qualify.

I reckon matching the Scandinavian season would go some way towards helping qualification as it would ease the impact of churn by giving new faces the chance to settle and of course improve match fitness.

I’ve already commented on the cup tie nature of qualifying and if I have criticism of the Board it is that Celtic are not working their butt off to campaign for changes in these areas.

Perhaps they are but that is another criticism we don’t get The Celtic Business View.

  16. Gerryfaebrig

No I don’t believe that peter lawell is trying to harm Celtic

He has only maybe 2-3 years till retirement and has worked out how to maximise bonus points easily since Huns died

We win league and keep about 35-40k s season ticket holders

    We sell one big player

    We qualify for Europa league

Club can do all of the above quite easy with no investment and peter gets an extra 250k to his retirement plan

    Easy

Why oh why would he invest hard cash for CL

Qualification while might be great if failure his bonus gone

If 50% of his bonus was for CL qualification. Then I think we would see planning for CL

I also went through hard times started in 1979 and was home and away every week till 2002

But baseline is CL now Cash is huge and great for our club to attract players offering bigger salaries. Don’t give two hoots for peters pension

  17. St stivs I heard about that.

It’s all about the money eh. Who gives a damn about the football.

Celtic. Not even a football club.

  18. Auldheid. I agree it’s always nice have cash for a rainy day

But in our case we don’t plan for CL. We gamble on getting there every year and if gamble does not come off then we sell

    No plan no ideas

Cash now involved in CL is approx 25m. It now is a corporate failure not to achieve this

  19. Neganon,

    Read back,

    Its a secret.

Cos they don’t want other clubs to steal their ideas.

    Crock of shit.

    I smell a rat.

  20. Auldheid. Your link says nothing

It was noted in the accounts and press a few years ago it was zero debt and cash in bank

I agree it should be made more open to give fans a clear understanding on what drives PL

  21. Auldheid we are building a reserve and still selling all our best players. Maybe we should cut our losses and support Barclays and the like.

Res 12 is dead. The club have participated in corruption. They have repeatedly shafted the Celtic support

And they are moving in ever decreasing circles.

    What’s not to like eh?

    We are now an omnishambles

But hey the Hun will be back next year and we can take our rightful place at the back of the bus.

  22. St stivs you don’t need to smell the rat. They are all out in the open.

And some of your fellow posters are cheering them on.

    It’s a funny old world.

  23. I have to say with some regret that RD must go on the grounds of his failure to play 2 strikers. As for PL he can go back to his heated helipad anytime.

  24. Sydneytim,

A couple of points mate. As far as I believe, Celtic always set their budgets with Zero income from CL to stay safe.

At Malmo, our team were capable of much better but were rotten on the night. We were a better team. I am still at a loss to what happened on Tuesday night.
