  1. Chris Sutton – Valencia need European football to help with their debt!

So where the f is financial fair play?

  2. Philbhoy,

It’s been said time and time again…the SPFL is no substitute for playing against decent attacking teams…I feel our problems are down to adjusting speed of thought on nights like this

  3. Stroll in the park for Valencia …but a lot of this was our own misplaced passes and loose play… maybe a step to far for us…

    Full-time 2-0

  4. Dexter P. Bampot on

    “genius”

    Thanks.

As far as I know Lustig is a RB so wouldn’t play him at LB.

    Hendry isn’t a LB either…

I would have probably picked Izzy to start tbf. But, as this game has gone on, Izzy has had an absolute mare and ought to have been subbed by Hayes.

PS it’s not Izzy’s fault tbf as he was past his best when he left and he’s now 2 years past being past his best

  5. TLT spot on. At this level the first yard is in your head. That’s why they are quicker than us – they need to be sharper week in, week out.

If most of these same players played at their level every week they would be far better players.

  6. FT 0-2

Well outplayed but we shot ourselves in the foot more than once.

Positives few and far between. No one except perhaps SS earned any praise.

    Howevva

I liked the look of Weah linking up with Burke and Eddie.

I guess we will need to settle for another treble.

  7. Lots of work for BR to do to try to get us prepared for next leg…not holding out much hope…as has been said…for me Europe is a bonus…our bread n butter (with some jelly n ice cream) unfortunately is in Scotland

  8. Beaten by a good team.

We weren’t awful, and Valencia are a fine football team.

Odsonne and Timo made a difference.

Felt for Izzy, it wasn’t his day at all.

Misplaced passes, most under pressure, some not.

Have a go in Spain, at this point we are out, let’s just have a go.

  9. Dexter P Bampot – Hayes? Really? Izzy knows how to defend in his head but the legs won’t do it. Hayes would lose the first 2 yards in his head and would be turned every time. It would have been ridiculously unfair to put him in there. As I said, no real options so BR had to leave a struggling player out there.

  10. Treble treble now please. On tonight’s showing we should beat any SPFL team. Forget Europe for a while.

  11. As well as the the obvious gulf in money and resources, football at the highest level has changed a lot in the last decade.

In Paul Hartley’s interview with Simon Ferry this week, Hartley mentioned how different football is now (particularly European football) compared to when he played for Celtic.

Years ago, in the big games, if you won your own personal battle on the pitch u had a good chance of winning the game (this was particularly the case at Celtic Park with the crowd behind you)

Now though, it’s all about systems and tactics

It’s more of a game of chess and puffing out your chest and getting ‘stuck in’ no longer works…. this was usually Celtic’s ‘leveller’ when coming up against the bigger teams and why we so often punched above our weight

  12. Just don’t understand this giving the ball away when we are up against better teams, I’m no a psychologist but it seems like they have the fear, it’s been a trait in europe for some time now, if we could stop this I reckon we would do Ok, but stopping it is the problem.

  13. Dexter P. Bampot on

Not sure you read what I actually posted.

Izzy started the game. Fair enough.

However, as sometimes happens, the player was mince. And he got mincer. Ergo- sub him.

  14. That was another very very disappointing performance, gifts for the goals, Im assuming Hayes got injured warming up because Izaguiire was carthorse slow,Christie pulled back to try and pass from the back square square square. we look as if we havent got a clue trying to play at this level.

  15. We are not up to the required standard.

Izzy was terrible, but how can you blame him ? He is way past his best days. He brought in as a stand in for the SPFL.

Financialy, it is almost impossible to compete. That being said, some of our mistakes were exceptionally bad tonight.

Our overplaying the ball at the back and our insistance on never chancing passes that cut out our midfield, has made our overall attack, all but impotent.

  16. Well beaten by a much better team

Poor passing because we’re poor passers or under pressure we can’t pass?

Izzy strolling back to their 2nd goal

Ref? A nice villa in Valencia? Another UEFA crook

  18. What I will say is this: if you have recorded the game or get another chance to watch it, do so as a neutral.

Watch how Valencia are superbly coached in their 4-4-2. They played as a unit and moved in synchronisation as a unit. There was no space between the 2 banks of 4 and the front 2 dropped in close to the midfield 4 leaving no room for our defense to play to our midfield.

When they had the opportunity they broke very fast and, again, as a tight unit. Neither our midfield or defence reacted quick enough at either goal.

That’s not lack of ability, it’s a product of playing at a much lower level every week.

  19. Tonight was a bit of a free roll of the dice. Unfortunately we didn’t play like it was. Nervy passing disrupted any rhythm we might have established and two very very poor goals lost killed us altogether and while he wasn’t the only one, Izzy was to blame in part for both. We do occasionally have to learn to play a more direct game when the playing out of defence isn’t working.

Injured or knackered? Hard to tell, but a fit KT makes a huge difference to us.

Pluses? Hmmm. Toljan got better as the game went on. And, eh, that’s it. Maybe we can rest a few players in the away tie.

On to Kilmarnock. The next game is all that counts in football. Eyes on the prize Celtic.

*and there lies the problem, the bigot is a close friend of the Italian rowbotham, they’ve got us coming and going.
