Central def, Dempster, don’t mention the EBT

287

I could make the case that Kilmarnock were better against Celtic on Sunday than Hearts were, when the latter won 4-0 at Tynecastle last year. At Rugby Park, Celtic failed to retain possession to anything like an adequate level. The nuances of the pitch were known in advance, I don’t buy it as an excuse.

Players seemed over-anxious to get rid of the ball, most often by sending it forward to players who didn’t have the space necessary to retain possession. A large part of our conventional system relies on passing and movement from central defence. The early loss of Boyata, then Ajer, did Celtic more damage than the pitch.

You know that ominous feeling you get when media and many in the game are uniting behind a candidate for a top job, before the job is even advertised? Leeann Dempster might be the best administrator in Hibs’ and Motherwell’s recent history, but that is modest claim to fame. The job of CEO at the SFA should go through a conventional recruitment process.

As for BBC news this morning that the SFA are considering Walter Smith* as national team manager, a man who walked out on his contract halfway through a qualifying campaign for a club job! This tells you all you need to know about football in Scotland.

*and I didn’t even mention his EBT, because no one ever mentions “Walter’s” EBT, that would just embarrass the man.  It must be like a sketch of Monty Python whenever he walks into a room of journalists.  Would love to know what it was for……

  8. Any word on how long our injured players are going to be out . Surely Paul with his contacts within can keep us up to date with the going on at the club . That official club site is one of the worst websites on the net , unless you want to buy something .

`Merit` is difficult to define in these cases. Yesterday, if my memory serves me well, you said something along the lines of ` ability` being the only criteria.

What if, though, appointing someone of a lesser ability served as a role model which led to an overall improvement in the future?

I accept that, were I rejected in favour of a less accomplished candidate I might not be so understanding but

I would hope that I could still agree with the admirable reasoning behind positive discrimination.

  11. JimTim

I agree that the club website could be greatly improved.

I am not sure about informing us with speculation, which is what it would be, about players’ expected return from injury would be? These things are more of an art than a science. A player may have an expected return date of, say mid-April, but suffer a further break-down in his recovery programme and that date goes back to August. Some players defy odds and return quicker than expected. A return date may only indicate a return to availability to train not a readiness to play. And Finally, a player has a say in when he feels ready to face playing again, no matter what the club or club doctor says or speculates.

I think anything too precise here is more misinformation than information and I don’t think that, I as a supporter, would need that information. What would I do with it? Refuse to spectate until Larsson is back from injury and in the team?? Start booing the manager for failing to select my favourite because I have been told he is fit again? What would I do with this knowledge usefully apart from picking my fantasy football team?

  12. SFTB

` informing us with speculation, which is what it would be, `

It would not be speculation to inform how long a player suffering from injury x normally takes to recover.

`What would I do with this knowledge usefully apart from picking my fantasy football team?`

If nothing else, it would help inform any personal and future opinion on how long any effect the absence would have on the team`s performance

    JJ.

  13. All player injuries are medical in nature and there is such a thing as Medical Confidentiality. I think you’ll find that the Club Doctor and Physios and therefore the Club are bound by this confidentiality not to discuss the players’ (patients’) conditions in any great detail, if at all.

If Dempster and Smith get the gigs is that officially lights out for Res12?

    MWD

    ====%===

What will be lights out on Res12 will be aknowledgement that the vast majority of supporters don’t care about fair football governance to say “Enough.”

Four guys have carried the water uphill for 5 years near enough, thinking governance mattered, especially when bias to one club has become evidently demonstrable.

If fair governance is not important enough for the CSA and CST to unite and campaign for it then as the representatives of the main victims of it, that signals the end.

Officially it will be when the SFA complete their investigation according to the process and procedures in the Judicial Panel Protocol that is described in detail on the SFA Web site.

We know that work is underway gathering evidence and take a bit of comfort that after 5 months they have found no reason to reject a case, but they should have enough by now to decide one way or another if there is one to put before a Judicial Panel.

Only when that process is complete will this saga end and all the evidence of skullduggery that caused a case to be put in the first place can be released.

If that is not enough to anger supporters enough to put club loyalty aside and demand action, then frankly we deserve what we get and can carry on whinging about things like an ebt recipient being offered a job managing the Scottish national team.

Says a lot about Scotland really.

Then they wanted into the golf clubs and go the horses with me, ( err I mean go the horses)

Noo they not only want to go to the gemme, they want to run the gemme?

Where’s this gonna end? Me making my own dinner and doing my own ironing?

  16. Pog

  17. Hot Smoked, that is guess work on their part. Giving precise details is in contravention of The a Caldicott Principles. Just like you would be unhappy about a third party discussing your medical conditions. If you chose to inform others you are within your rights but revelation by a third party is not.

  18. SFTB

    :)))))))))

    Hot Smoked.

IMO positive discrimination is still discrimination.

I understand the rationale behind it but I personally don’t agree with it. Where and when true equality is prevalent, there is no need for any discrimination.

  19. CELTS FROM THE SOUTH

MY THOUGHTS AND VIEWS ON CELTIC AND FOOTBALL

I think some Celtic fans need a reality check. The backlash from the Kilmarnock defeat was appalling and embarrassing.

Best fans in the world? Most fickle fans in the world.

You don’t get to chose how you lose. It happens, you deal with it and you move on.

I’m not suggesting you walk away happy because we’re so lucky to have Brendan Rodgers as manger and take any old defetat lying down. Do yourself a favour though and take a deep breath before venting your spleen on social media about two defeats.

There’s no excuse for Celtic losing. Just like there’s no excuse for exaggerating the circumstances at the club.

It’s becoming silly season with some of the bullshit I’ve read about Celtic by fans. You would think we’re a club in crisis.

Let’s be constrcutive in our criticism about match days. At the same time, don’t start ringing alarm bells unnecessarily.

We have a very motivated media who do that for us already. Things will come together for Celtic again and they need the fans at their back.

    Hail! Hail!

Glad you consider the Killie Astro as no excuse.

Whether it is Killie n bad astro, hallowed turf of Celtic Park or meeting up in a public park and throwing jerseys down for goals… Celtic had enough quality advantage to reasonably expect a win. Only complacency from Celtic and umber organisation of Killie determined otherwise.
