Champions League clarity for Celtic

889

Celtic have received some clarity concerning their first Champions League qualifying round opponents after this week’s first leg results in qualifying round two.  The five matches that could provide an opponent for Celtic all produced hot favourites to progress.

Sheriff Tiraspol, who won away in Armenia, are 22 games into their league campaign and top the Moldovan table.  HJK Helsinki, who won 7-0 on Tuesday night’s Champions League qualifier, are joint top in Finland after 17 games.

All other expected opponents won 3-0 at home in the first leg.  Neftchi Baku are top of the Azerbaijan league after 16 games.  Molde are two points off the pace in Norway after 15 games.  AEL Limassol are Celtic’s only potential opponents who have yet to start their campaign.

If Celtic are to progress to the group stage they will have to overcome stiffer opposition than any of these teams in the final qualifying round, so we should look forward to a stiff test.

Loved the We are Celtic Supporters video from Celtic TV (below).  Great quotes from Jimmy McGrory, Tommy Burns, Billy McNeill, Paul McStay, Jock Stein and the original “<insert name> is more than a football club” from Sir Robert Kelly, a few decades before it was picked up in Catelonia.

According to Der Hunnes speak, it’s in the next 48hrs.

Just wait for it. It’s coming.

The Establishment persuaded one of the judges to take a nice long holiday. long enough to get the der hunnes fremd back into football and then, and only then, administrating the coup de grace on the old co.

Im uncomfortable with the mention of rangers and stripping, Ive boaked twice, but

The swines should be made to get every ‘captain’ who lifted the trophy to go to a gala day at Celtic Park where theres no game on, just presentation day, (Peter can charge for entrance if he thinks its suitable) and one by one the captains of the discraced ex club hand over the cups they wrongly won to the proper owners.

They may get laughed at, we might have been annoyed at the outcome of those many tarnished titles, so fair is fair, get them out and get these cheats humiliated.

Sorry matey is Alex going to put up a blog telling us why the taxcase is taking so long or does he know the verdict.

Political/Masonic interference. It was always a given. We live in a Protestant country for a Protestant people after all.

They couldnt stop HMRC from getting their teeth into the cheating hun but they sure could do something about the timing of the bite.

Stewart Regan’s threat of ‘social unrest” was passed down. It didn’t originate from him.

It’s ok matey forget that last post I’ve just read AT tweets and he’s just saying he’ll reveal the secrecy of it all in his blog.

  19. Yes to bling. Give us all our trophys.

Think back to the great effort of 2003. Remember the stick our Chris took for suggesting the title was a fix.

  20. The “Calciopoli” scandal

Is the name given to the events, which saw Juventus one of the five clubs linked to a Serie A match fixing scandal the result of which saw the club relegated to Serie B The club was also stripped of the two titles won under Capello in 2005 and 2006.

I wonder what this scandal will be know as?

  21. Estadio Nacional on

Irish work mate who supports Celtic asked me for an update on the whole madness of Scottish football as he had been out the picture, during lunch I explained it to him in the company of a Geordie and two Columbians.

The Geordie who new the story throughwee bits of bbc website gash and stuff but wasnt interested and the Columbian football fans couldnt believe the bare facts they heard about the cheating and corruption. Im convinced they think Im making all this up about the ex club that used to darken our door step, Ive since proven to them the case on the ex club’s major crimes. But wow, everybody who asks/laughs at them enjoy the story you tell them about their demise.

  22. I like Estadio Nacional’s idea.

We could have Amoruso, Gough and Ferguson taking up this role week about, based on an old TV series.

There was a US Western series back in the mid 60s called Branded.

The opening credits showed Chuck Connors as Jason McCord being cashiered and drummed out of the US cCavalry because of an accusation of cowardice. His epaulets are torn off (not as painful as it sounds), his buttons are pulled off and his saber broken.

McCord then has to wander through the Old West to frontier towns like Brechin and Elgin in order to rehabilitate his reputation.

The similarities break down when we find out that the charges against McCord were falsely levelled. However, I fully expect to see a Leggate column based on my analogy coming soon.

  23. OG Rafferty says:

Sorry to be a pain matey but do you think it’s normal for it to take this long or do you think it should’ve been out now ?

    Dear God.

I sometimes find it very hard to understand ur thinking re wee Oscar and young Renya. But this a bad bad world we are in just now.

    Good night All.

  25. Celtic bhoy

Thinking about your post it is very difficult to try and explain this fiasco to anyone … l find myself thinking as l try to do so “Is that right. Did l make that up” as it seems so utterly incredible. Them you think “Yes it is right. The really are that corrupt.
