Celtic have received some clarity concerning their first Champions League qualifying round opponents after this week’s first leg results in qualifying round two. The five matches that could provide an opponent for Celtic all produced hot favourites to progress.
Sheriff Tiraspol, who won away in Armenia, are 22 games into their league campaign and top the Moldovan table. HJK Helsinki, who won 7-0 on Tuesday night’s Champions League qualifier, are joint top in Finland after 17 games.
All other expected opponents won 3-0 at home in the first leg. Neftchi Baku are top of the Azerbaijan league after 16 games. Molde are two points off the pace in Norway after 15 games. AEL Limassol are Celtic’s only potential opponents who have yet to start their campaign.
If Celtic are to progress to the group stage they will have to overcome stiffer opposition than any of these teams in the final qualifying round, so we should look forward to a stiff test.
Loved the We are Celtic Supporters video from Celtic TV (below). Great quotes from Jimmy McGrory, Tommy Burns, Billy McNeill, Paul McStay, Jock Stein and the original “<insert name> is more than a football club” from Sir Robert Kelly, a few decades before it was picked up in Catelonia.

It’s good to see you back on the blog again m8ty.
I think Beram is a lot more subtle about his tackling than you give him credit for, yes he does dive in at times and usually after he has made a quick calculation in his head and always (unless he is wanting his contract sorted hehe) thinks about his team m8s positioning and movements etc.
Now I’m wondering if Neil would have dived in more had he been more athletic.
Still walking up to the ole Humphrey m8?

Petec, i agree qualifying for CL is important for us
but we have know for 3 months that only Charlie and Rogne( dont count Kelvin wilson as he is a liability in SPL never mind europe) as Center halfs and rumour is Neil is looking only at free transfers.
think that shows was Celtic PLC think of your statement of improving
take into account we have only one Goal scorer in the staring 11 and it defo shows PL and Celtic PLC Intent
Europa League at the best
ST
I don’t think we saw enough of Lustig from January or at the EUROs to be able to say he couldn’t be a decent shout at CB if required, what’s the verdict on him?
May even be a better option than Wilson whose back up to Rogne/Mulgrew?

SydneyTim
I disagree with you on your summary.
I think we can definitely get into the group stages and do pretty well, if we were pot 3 I’d say we could definitely get out of the group, if we are pot 4 then I would expect to see us in the latter stages of the Europa League.
Our Squad is young and up and coming, they are now Champions, despite a whole network of cheaters trying to deny them, twice now, they have the balls and they now know they have.
I think you are writing off Big Wilson too early. I hope the big guy, like I know you do really, makes all the doubters eat their words. Sometimes it takes a lot of time to take in the whole Magnitude of CELTIC.
FIFA obviously rate him very highly because he is an absolute hidden gem in their game and he is essential to me taking on the biggest teams and beating them most games in Ultimate Team online. The guys pace (he is deceptively fast and a lot faster than CM) has saved me so many times. ;))
My Ultimate Team
I win about 8/10 with this team because of the chemistry and the formation. I tried to bring in James Forrest and push out Juarez and drop Broonie back into midfield but I was losing more games because the chemistry was not right for some reason, stupid Fifa.
Petec. Forgot about Lustig. Still unsure
Regarding Wilson, we have lost virtually every game he has played
I know a forest fan who told me that he was awfull and that the defence improve so much when he was dropped ( before we signed him) I saw him end of last season and he asked me what I thought, I said I agreed with him that he was indeed awefull, he has always been poor
Does not matter how young and keen our team is without a 2nd goalscorer we will struggle
Neil knows that and says he is frustated by lack of support from PL in bringing in his targets
SydneyTim
Kelvin had an absolute shocker last season m8, I’m not writing him off yet. I have a feeling if Beram is available that he will go for the 3 at the back and Kelvin will probably just be a backup.
You make a very important point about up front, we need a constant 2nd scorer. GH has it all in front of him and he can become a Celtic legend but he Must have more consistency this season because he dropped off a few times during the last season. Sammi is essential but not as a striker, unless we are playing Barca ;). I am hoping Mo B will click into gear this season but there are no guarantees there. Tony Stokes is a good SPL player but IMO doesn’t have the mentality to play at CL level.
If Ki goes (Peter Lawwell will get the Top $ for him) then Jordan is a cert to be signed.

In all likelihood we wont get into the Champs League (we might flook it, but lets get real).
The truth will come from our support knowing that our level is in the Europa League. Can we still support Celtic in the numbers required?
Der Hunnes Fremd will be waiting in wing’d hordes to say “I told you so”.
Any Celtic fan, financially capable of buying a season ticket, regardless of where they are on this planet, had better do so now. Hell mend us if we dont.

That is nonsensical talk, there has been a lot of gibberish posted from hun sites on CQN lately.
I say forget about that stuff as it is ancient history.
No one cares about the old Rangers on here anymore, I certainly don’t want their polluted comments from their fan websites bombarding CQN. It is pathetic that their crap is posted on this website.
Nonsensical talk? Such as we wont make the champs league? Such as we dont need more season ticket holders?….Pray tel … which?
Get real. The club have been pleading with us to get behind them and buy season tickets. More so than any other season. Why is that?
Fans like yourself abroad are probably more than able to buy a season ticket, regardless of whether they can attend or not.
Time to stand up and be counted. If you cant see that, you’re part of the problem.
Foxy_1888 on 20 July, 2012 at 05:37
So Celtic have a problem at this moment?
Who said I was abroad?
You don’t really understand Celtic well do you?

You put yer money where yer mouth is schemer.
Go and find a price for Celtic NOT to qualify for the group stages, and i will double the odds, for you only.
Now is yer time to earn yerself some free £.
I will lay ye whatever ya want – get my e-mail from Paul67,and i will bring the £ to the table, and we will all sit and watch it in Glesga.
That would be a CQN 1st,that would be excitin’,wouldn’t it? And ye can just get yer hun friends to whack in as well sure, free £ sure.

You want me to bet that Celtic wont make the Champs league… is that it?
If you can afford it, buy a season ticket, that’s all I was asking for…..
A joke.
I have supported Celtic from i was knee high to a grasshopper – Didn’t have the privilege to see The Lions,or the QSK’s – Seville side were great – my team was the Centenary side though, and i will stand by that side til the day i die…however…this wee team is something else, the young team,Lenny’s team…with an average age of 24 ffs!!
Bring it on,bring them all on…England,Spain, the lot.
Strong Bhoys they are,and no club in Western/Eastern Europe can beat us at el Parc de Paradise.
Athletico were classy, they did it and went on to win the thing…but there will be 60,000 Celtic supporters this time.
Bring it on.
Arent you the hero.
Like I said, if you can afford it, for the good of the club, buy a season ticket.

It’s up to you, but tellin lies makes the baby Jesus cry.
Neil Lennon says ” we are not in the group stage yet, we can’t speculate to accumulate , we must bring players in at affordable prices”
Well said Neil , tell the fans exactly how it is , the club asking fans to fill Celtic park, but the board are giving Neil zero money
Absolutely shocking from PL and the board
Squad trimmed back to minimum and we are crying out for quality center half and the board are taking the pi@@ out of the Celtic Support

Chacho – Told ye im gonna buy an ST.
But i cannot guarantee you that i will attend every home game, mainly cos that halion doesn’t trust me as far as she can throw me,and i refuse to travel by boat,i like to travel by air, plus i love Glasgow and don’t see the point of just spending a day in that fine city…i like a weekend there,to visit the Savoy and what not,and Molly Malones, and Waxy’s and the Barras.Citizen M is preferred hotel.
All i am is a Celtic man.I will post the confirmation of the ST purchase here on CQN asap.
If i am not true to my word, then i won’t be back on this site.
How does that sound?
SydneyTim on 20 July, 2012 at 06:18
You just dont get it do you?
It’s simple economics. We need revenue to exceed expenditure.
That revenue comes from income. TV money. Corporate hospitality. Advertising etc. Are you getting the picture?
Going into debt like Der Hunnes did isnt the answer.
If the TV money isnt there we need to make the shortfall up by maximising revenue from the supporters who can aford it.
It’s simple really. Buy a season ticket. Even if you cant attend the games you can still keep the membership card in your wallet. Prove to friends and family alike you’re not just a fan or just a CQN man, but that you’re a supporter.

Terrible news about Claudio Reynas wee boy. God knows how he and his family are feeling. May he rest in peace..

Striking chanceCeltic are considering taking Sporting Lisbon striker Amido Balde on trial.

The 21-year-old Portugese spent last season on loan at Belgian club Cercle Brugge and could join up with Celtic when the squad returns to Glasgow on Sunday.
The news hints at a more austere transfer policy, which Neil Lennon alluded to when discussing the Parkhead side’s Champions League hopes. The draw for the third qualifying round will be made today.
“We are not in the group stages, so we can’t speculate to accumulate,” said the Celtic manager. “We are trying to bring guys to the club at affordable prices.”

CQN a community. Your heroine didn’t believe in communities for they represent ‘dangerous’ concepts such as concern for others, collective identity and support for a communal sense of ‘good’.

Foxy-1888 sorry did not realise that if we invested in one center half we would go into liquidation aftter spending 300m we did not have,
the same as rangers
are you for real??? where does it say that Celtic Fc income has dropped
the info i have is Season tickets are actually up and our expenses have dropped
spin from the Board thats what you are saying
We have taken 4 1st team defenders off the wage bill
we only have 6 now! A quality center half is what we need and our manager is Bl@@dy frustated with the support from PL and has made it clear that he is being set up to fail with out new recruits
We dont need the huns anymore
but we need europe more than ever
