Champions League clarity for Celtic

889

Celtic have received some clarity concerning their first Champions League qualifying round opponents after this week’s first leg results in qualifying round two.  The five matches that could provide an opponent for Celtic all produced hot favourites to progress.

Sheriff Tiraspol, who won away in Armenia, are 22 games into their league campaign and top the Moldovan table.  HJK Helsinki, who won 7-0 on Tuesday night’s Champions League qualifier, are joint top in Finland after 17 games.

All other expected opponents won 3-0 at home in the first leg.  Neftchi Baku are top of the Azerbaijan league after 16 games.  Molde are two points off the pace in Norway after 15 games.  AEL Limassol are Celtic’s only potential opponents who have yet to start their campaign.

If Celtic are to progress to the group stage they will have to overcome stiffer opposition than any of these teams in the final qualifying round, so we should look forward to a stiff test.

Loved the We are Celtic Supporters video from Celtic TV (below).  Great quotes from Jimmy McGrory, Tommy Burns, Billy McNeill, Paul McStay, Jock Stein and the original “<insert name> is more than a football club” from Sir Robert Kelly, a few decades before it was picked up in Catelonia.

Looks like a marvellous advert for Scottish fitba`.

    A renaissance?

  3. I think you will find that Celtic fc will be the only club in the final qualifying round that had not invested, we just risk it and have generally lost that bet recently

Carloway’s withdrawal from participation in the SFA’s Judicial Panel Protocol is a sign of what lies ahead.

It is reported that he is narked that Glennie overruled his Appeal decision in the CoS, but this is an occupational irritance for all judges, and nothing more. It certainly does not represent a resignation issue 2 months down the line.

I suspect he is unable to reconcile his professional principles with the SFA’s backroom deal with Sevco. He is simply not prepared to put his name to and thus validate a deal that is utterly detached from good governance.

starry plough- it can be very seductive…but as you know a lot of the music has Scots/Irish/Irish/Scots roots so it’s in the ole DNA.

  6. Oh! I’m all upset, Foxy won’t answer my questions, right enough they are really, really, really hard questions.

You never answered the questions, they are not hard ones.

Do you live outside of the UK?

Do you have a season ticket?

Here are a couple of harders ones for you…

Are you sure you spelt ‘pfffft’ correctly?

Do you know any Celtic Supporters in Scotland who can afford a season ticket but don’t buy one?

Do you know any Celtic Supporters who don’t put a penny into Celtic but pay more than a cost of a season ticket to various charities?

If you have a season ticket are you going to post proof on here like you drove an other to declare?

I just think you don’t understand.

  7. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Carloway’s withdrawal is ‘like a new resigning’ -Sir Mark of Hateley.

  8. I had a season ticket for over twenty years through many lean years and eight of those whilst living in New Zealand and Spain ( I left my ticket with relatives to use in my place flying home when I could to use it)

I know have to work Seven days a week as a self employed person but follow all aspects of our club daily and get back up for games from Manchester when I can

However this does not make me a better or worse supporter than anyone else who truly carries CELTIC in their hearts IMHO

I haven’t phoned since Sunday and Kano wasn’t due back until Monday night, but I’ll give Ramie a call and see if all was good. I’m sure it was but I’m willing to bet that on his return and hearing the news the smile that would have split his face would light up the heavens.

Tell me mate, in the UK, I know Syria is a big story, but are they highlighting the plight of Yemen too?

  10. I posted this last night and then this morning I get up to find that my mate has put a further £10 through our letterbox for the wee mhan….

…..Gotta tell you this : our best friends, outside of family, were over at ours tonight. A lovelier pair of people you coudn’t meet….anyway the lady of the duo has stage 4 advanced colon cancer. She is getting top-notch treatment though, as her work provided her with private insurance and they’re not quibbling over the cost of her treatment and she is responding well, against all the odds.

So, brave people, and we had a great evening.

They, because they really are good friends, are interested in hearing how all things Celtic are going; so,I was telling them all about the campaign for wee Oscar, and the fundraising via the CQN badges, and that we had a change pot on the go. My mate then just reached in his pocket, took out a huge handful of weighty smash and said,” Stick that in the pot for me.” I was really touched.

In the hardest of times themselves, and yet they have good thoughts for someone they had never heard of before.

    I’ve made them honorary Tims.

    HH!

That’s true the influence of the auld countries on music in that part of the world is strong, I was traveling a few years back up in the Smokey Mountains heard some great music at a festival there…

The journey continues, learned a lot of new stuff right here on CQN!

is that straight from the David Murray school of econimics?

or perhaps a hun mentality that wants to see us go bust?

Here’s a suggestion for you. If you want us to invest in the squad buy a season ticket, become a supporter and join the club…….. or content yourself with staying as a fan.

    No great in-depth explanation.

It was, however, the FIRST I had heard about it-and I like to think I read the type of publications which keep me informed.

You’re taking a long, long road justifying not buying a season ticket Kitalba.

That’s your business. Stay a fan if you want to. You obviously have your reasons.

Like I said, if you can afford it, wherever your from, whoever you are, buy one. That’s for Celtic’s sake, not mine.

I don’t think that ANY ST’s should be bought until the board spend the McGeady money on the team!!!

Ten transfer window’s have come and gone, only for a mixture of – bad management and-cheap/bosman/freebie type’s of recruitment has been carried out yet, as far as I’m aware any drop in ST sales has been marginal at best.

Ten transfer window’s and still no decent central defensive pairing!?!?!?

    Totally UNACCEPTABLE. imo.
