Clarity on the administration vote, from one club, so far

779

The potential scenario of a Scottish Premier League club going out of business, becoming an ex-club, has played out in several places since we discussed it last month.  As a result, we have all had an opportunity to establish our views on the matter, what would and would not be an acceptable reaction by the league and SFA.

The first ‘insolvency event’ of a failing club is likely to be the appointment of an administrator to protect the company from immediate creditors.  This would draw a 10 point penalty.  The choice of the administrator for a football club could be a controversial subject, especially if some creditors stand to lose a considerable amount of money through any rushed deal.  For example, although Rangers have a considerable potential liability to HMRC hanging over them, their creditors might feel that a period of administration stretching several years into the future would enable all debts to be paid in full, a position not all administrators would necessarily agree with.

It’s normal for directors to appoint an administrator prior to a creditor getting to court but if creditors don’t feel the appointment is likely to serve their best interests they can apply to appoint their own.  These battles can get acrimonious.

In the days after an administrator is appointed the club may not be in a position to fulfil its fixtures.  When Gretna’s administrator informed the Scottish Football League they could not guarantee they would be able to fulfil the following season’s fixtures the league relegated them two divisions, to the bottom rung of the league structure.  This proved to be a temporary position before the administrator admitted defeat and folded the company.  Precedent suggests we should look out for a double relegation if a club in administration has to tell the league they cannot fulfil fixtures.

There is no point waiting until a well-organised administrator presents a fait accompli to the league before we look for precedents and debate an appropriate response.  For the integrity of the Scottish game, football fans need to be ready for this debate.  Where possibly, colours should be pinned to the mast.

One outcome of the online debate in the last couple of days (thanks to untiring work of our friend Phil) is that Celtic were forced to consider this question.  I sought and received assurances that they will not vote to admonish owners of an ex-football club with a paltry point penalty, allowing them to reform as though nothing happened the following season.

The question is still-hypothetical, so clubs are not in a position to comment officially yet, but we are in a healthier position for the debate and should encourage high profile supporters of other clubs to engage the debate as some from our own club have recently.

  1. I see we have brought out a 3rd strip

I any fans were thinking of buying

    Then consider the following points

    1. Any money raised , will not be reinvested in the team

    2. Any money raised will go to the bank to keep zero debt levels

    3. Our CEO salary depends on us having a low debt

    4. Buying the new strip will not improve the team but will ensure our CEO still has a big salary

    Hope that makes things clear

    What else could they sell?

I find it depressing and disgusting in equal measure that Rangers fans (on Rangers forums like RM), promote the idea of selling the name of our famous stadium.

It provokes the question, what else belonging to us, would they be agreeable to selling for a few pieces of silver?

I’ve already sarcastically mentioned selling off the contents of the trophy room, but I’m not so sure that some would find it all that abhorrent, as long as the price was right.

So, what else would actually be for sale if we sold our souls, and renamed the world famous Ibrox Stadium?

Would it be fine to become the Go Compare Rangers FC, or Fredbet Rangers, if enough money was offered?

Would we change our official colours to green to get a juicy Asda sponsorship deal?

Where does the line get drawn with those who think that a fistful of dollars is the be all and end all in today’s society?

Lets all laugh at whats it called……………. ha ha ha ha

EAST STIRLING boss John Coughlin says the SFA has one rule for football’s minnows — and another for Rangers.

Coughlin was stunned as Shire star Ryan Frances copped a whopping 14-game ban yesterday for man-handling a referee.

Last season ex-Gers ace Madjid Bougherra escaped with a fine for a similar offence in an Old Firm game. Coughlin said: “The punishment seems excessive. There is a lack of balance in the decisions handed out to Rangers and East Stirling.”

Defender Frances was handed the shock punishment after he tried to grab ref Barry Cook then refused to leave the field when he was sent off against Buckie Thistle last month.

But Coughlin says his player’s behaviour was little worse than Bougherra’s back in March when he grabbed ref Calum Murray’s red card after he was sent off against Celtic.

At the time the Algeria star escaped with a fine and a severe censure, while Frances will now miss the next two months as he serves his punishment.

Coughlin stressed he did not condone Frances’ behaviour, but insists the two sanctions don’t add up. He told SunSport: “I’ve seen the DVD of the incident and I’ll be honest, it doesn’t make for good viewing.

“But everyone who has seen it has said it’s similar to the way Bougherra reacted when he was sent off against Celtic. I remember watching it on TV at the time and I would have to agree.

“I don’t know who sat on this disciplinary panel compared to that one.

“But as a club we’ll accept the punishment because we don’t condone what Ryan did.”

Frances was hit with four separate charges of misconduct following last month’s Scottish Cup tie, which finished 1-1. He was initially dismissed for a kick out at Chris Angus, leading ref Cook to award a penalty. The defender then grabbed the ref’s arm before he was dragged away by team-mates.

Yesterday an SFA statement confirmed he had been charged with “excessive misconduct involving violent conduct, dissent, the use of offensive, insulting and abusive language and the adoption of aggressive behaviour towards a match official.”

Frances has already served an automatic two-match ban and Coughlin was reeling at the additional 12-game punishment.

He said: “I thought he would get something like a six-game ban”

It’s a bit rich of the East Stirling boss to complain now, where was he and all the other managers in Scotland when ‘justice’ was dispensed after the shame-game?

Will his club be calling for Rangers to receive justice for their cheating when the time comes? I have my doubts.

  15. OK, Who broke Twitter?

    EAST STIRLING 14-1 RANGERS

Posted on Friday, 11th November 2011 by Joe McHugh

East Stirling boss John Coughlan was astonished when Ryan Frances got hit with a 14 game ban after watching Madjid Bougherra get a warning for a similar incident.

Last season Bougherra emerged from an SFA hearing full of smiles after picking up a one match Scottish Cup suspension for twice manhandling Calum Murray during Rangers’ 3-0 Scottish Cup defeat from Celtic.

With no intention of staying on at Rangers this season the Algerian got off Scot free in an incident viewed by millions throughout the UK.

Frances got involved in a similar incident during a Scottish Cup tie with Buckie Thistle and has felt the full force of the SFA’s disciplinary system and will be out of football until well into the new year after being hit with a 14 match ban.

‘Shire boss Coughlin said: “The punishment seems excessive. There is a lack of balance in the decisions handed out to Rangers and East Stirling.

“I’ve seen the DVD of the incident and I’ll be honest, it doesn’t make for good viewing.
