Clarity on the administration vote, from one club, so far

779

The potential scenario of a Scottish Premier League club going out of business, becoming an ex-club, has played out in several places since we discussed it last month.  As a result, we have all had an opportunity to establish our views on the matter, what would and would not be an acceptable reaction by the league and SFA.

The first ‘insolvency event’ of a failing club is likely to be the appointment of an administrator to protect the company from immediate creditors.  This would draw a 10 point penalty.  The choice of the administrator for a football club could be a controversial subject, especially if some creditors stand to lose a considerable amount of money through any rushed deal.  For example, although Rangers have a considerable potential liability to HMRC hanging over them, their creditors might feel that a period of administration stretching several years into the future would enable all debts to be paid in full, a position not all administrators would necessarily agree with.

It’s normal for directors to appoint an administrator prior to a creditor getting to court but if creditors don’t feel the appointment is likely to serve their best interests they can apply to appoint their own.  These battles can get acrimonious.

In the days after an administrator is appointed the club may not be in a position to fulfil its fixtures.  When Gretna’s administrator informed the Scottish Football League they could not guarantee they would be able to fulfil the following season’s fixtures the league relegated them two divisions, to the bottom rung of the league structure.  This proved to be a temporary position before the administrator admitted defeat and folded the company.  Precedent suggests we should look out for a double relegation if a club in administration has to tell the league they cannot fulfil fixtures.

There is no point waiting until a well-organised administrator presents a fait accompli to the league before we look for precedents and debate an appropriate response.  For the integrity of the Scottish game, football fans need to be ready for this debate.  Where possibly, colours should be pinned to the mast.

One outcome of the online debate in the last couple of days (thanks to untiring work of our friend Phil) is that Celtic were forced to consider this question.  I sought and received assurances that they will not vote to admonish owners of an ex-football club with a paltry point penalty, allowing them to reform as though nothing happened the following season.

The question is still-hypothetical, so clubs are not in a position to comment officially yet, but we are in a healthier position for the debate and should encourage high profile supporters of other clubs to engage the debate as some from our own club have recently.

I honestly wouldn’t care; those that matter will call it Paradise, Celtic Park or Parkhead.

On the orcs stadium renaming: surely it’s been decided already that it’s Tesco Govan?

Spongebhoy, I had a similar painful split about 10 years ago.

I’ll never forget the drive to my mum and dads house to tell them my marriage had failed. I couldn’t hold the tears back. I was ashamed it had not lasted. When I had taken my wedding vows, I wanted it to last forever.

But my shame was misplaced. My mother held me in her arms as if I was 5 years old (I was 33!) and told me that she and dad and the family were there for me. And they were.

And I got an incredible inner strength from that.

I resolved there and then that that day was the beginning of the rest of my life. I’ve since done things and visted places I probably would never have done. I discovered a new me.

As time passed, I met a wonderful lady and have since settled down again.

I’ve never been happier – well, not true – if only Celtic would win the league………. ;-)

    Things WILL get better again.

I always knew it as Parkhead when I was a wean, makes no difference one iota to me either, it is what it is, and that’s where Celtic football club play their games, if the club many lots of sponduliks from calling it anything else, take it I say, will always be Parkhead in my mind, and as you say, those who care will have it in their minds what it’s called.

I would be interested in reading that Vinny, like you I hold Auldheid in high regard and had the pleasure of meeting him and chatting at length with BRTH & RogueLeader following the AGM just past.

Thanks also for the compliment, however those are just things people said to me which I got comfort from and was able to use (and still do) in living my life on a daily basis. I’m not clever enough to think them up, just pass them on.

When I read the posts I conjer up an image in my mind of who has posted what they posted, if that makes sence, and Auldheid who I met last week wasn’t what I had imagined, for a start he wasn’t Auld, but trust me bhoys, he could talk for scotland :>)))))

if Christine Graham is well-known within Scottish political circles for her inflammatory anti-Catholic prejudice, then how did she get the current gig which affords the possibility of maligning the Celtic support and backing it up with legislation?

Can someone tell me the process by which she was selected?

Basically my point was to learn to love ourselves unconditionally and recognise we are all beings in process of change.

Once we drop the judgement of ourselves as somehow not good enough, and see ourselves for the miracle that we all are, we start to appreciate who we really are as a person and in doing that we become a soul mate to ourselves but are also more able to offer that perspective to others.

Pablophanque was great at meeting and organising since I started looking in on Cqn, now there are loads who like to meet up in different parts of the world through quicknews and of course other Celtic sites, Auldheid is one of the best IMO In this regard and Now I think there’s an army of Auldheids out there now, and maybe it’s because we have something inside so strong.

You raise a very good point.

I read something in the last few days that raised an eyebrow. When your wife is quiet (not nagging), it doesn’t always mean that things are okay. It may mean, that she has given up. Think about it Bhoys.

  18. East Stirlingshire defender Ryan Frances has been hit with a 14-game suspension after being sent off in the Scottish Cup against Buckie Thistle.

The 19-year-old was charged with excessive misconduct involving violent conduct, dissent, the use of offensive, insulting and abusive language.

Frances was also found guilty of the adoption of aggressive behaviour towards a match official.

He has five days to appeal against the disciplinary panel’s decision.

Frances, previously of St Mirren, was accused of placing hands on referee Barry Cook – something the Scottish Football Association promised to penalise heavily this season – during Shire’s 1-1 draw with Buckie on 23 October.

  20. Lads listened to Terry on Clyde that guy is a legend, you could actually hear in wee darryls voice he was crumbling.

  21. Spongebhoy,

Have been there. Admittedly my sentence was 10 yrs shorter.

I know it felt like the end of the world to me. It wasn’t. It isn’t.

However, you need to go through the grieving process. Just bear in mind. Temporary problems do not require permanent solutions. During this period, the main thing is to avoid doing anything you or your kids will have cause to regret in the long term.

For me, as I imagine for you, the main concern was the impact on the children. The children though, are a lot tougher than you think. I dont’t want to come across as someone with all the answers, I’m definitely not that, but I’ve been through this as an adult and a child. If you avoid confrontations in front of them, and deliberately undermining each other, they will be fine.

The thing I hated most was people telling me things would get better, when I was more distraught than I ever thought it possible to be. They were right though.

The necessity to compromise for the sake of the kids will mean that, although realising you’re doing the right thing, you will rarely be 100% happy with everything. You will be astonished though, at the ability of you and the children to successfully adapt to situations which seemed unthinkable 12 days ago.

I took the plunge again 3yrs ago and gained another daughter in the process. Although there has been disruption in my own daughter’s life, she has dealt with it so well over the last 9 years, I could burst with pride. She is a better human being than I could ever hope to be. My relationship with my current wife is also infinitely better than things were first time round.

Also, with the rise of internet dating, by this time next year, you could be going out with an Eastern European supermodel! Are you minted?

Sorry to ramble. That was a bit more than I intended to say. Keep your head up brother. Adapt and overcome. That doesn’t mean your not entitled to a good greet intae yir dram though.

“Frances, previously of St Mirren, was accused of placing hands on referee Barry Cook – something the Scottish Football Association promised to penalise heavily this season ”

I think you will find that this referee is something of wimp unlike Calum Murray who never once felt threatened when manhandled by Bougherra.

I think you will find that this Scottish Football Association is much more determined than the previous one.

I think you will find that “this season” is not last season and it will remain that way until some Rager goes mental at a ref.

…. and none of the above will come as any surprise to you!

When the banking community tried to explain how they had totally fecked things up they talked about the credit crunch being a 25-sigma event.

A sigma is the measure of standard deviation ie the likelihood of an event occurring.

A 1-sigma event is the probability of an event happening a third of the time.

A 2-sigma event is about 5% of the time.

    A 5-sigma event is about 1 in 1.74 million.

A 20-sigma event is “all the elementary particles in the universe” to 1.

The chances of Boogie getting the same punishment as Ryan Frances?

    I’d say that’s a 20-sigma event!
