Clarity on the administration vote, from one club, so far

779

The potential scenario of a Scottish Premier League club going out of business, becoming an ex-club, has played out in several places since we discussed it last month.  As a result, we have all had an opportunity to establish our views on the matter, what would and would not be an acceptable reaction by the league and SFA.

The first ‘insolvency event’ of a failing club is likely to be the appointment of an administrator to protect the company from immediate creditors.  This would draw a 10 point penalty.  The choice of the administrator for a football club could be a controversial subject, especially if some creditors stand to lose a considerable amount of money through any rushed deal.  For example, although Rangers have a considerable potential liability to HMRC hanging over them, their creditors might feel that a period of administration stretching several years into the future would enable all debts to be paid in full, a position not all administrators would necessarily agree with.

It’s normal for directors to appoint an administrator prior to a creditor getting to court but if creditors don’t feel the appointment is likely to serve their best interests they can apply to appoint their own.  These battles can get acrimonious.

In the days after an administrator is appointed the club may not be in a position to fulfil its fixtures.  When Gretna’s administrator informed the Scottish Football League they could not guarantee they would be able to fulfil the following season’s fixtures the league relegated them two divisions, to the bottom rung of the league structure.  This proved to be a temporary position before the administrator admitted defeat and folded the company.  Precedent suggests we should look out for a double relegation if a club in administration has to tell the league they cannot fulfil fixtures.

There is no point waiting until a well-organised administrator presents a fait accompli to the league before we look for precedents and debate an appropriate response.  For the integrity of the Scottish game, football fans need to be ready for this debate.  Where possibly, colours should be pinned to the mast.

One outcome of the online debate in the last couple of days (thanks to untiring work of our friend Phil) is that Celtic were forced to consider this question.  I sought and received assurances that they will not vote to admonish owners of an ex-football club with a paltry point penalty, allowing them to reform as though nothing happened the following season.

The question is still-hypothetical, so clubs are not in a position to comment officially yet, but we are in a healthier position for the debate and should encourage high profile supporters of other clubs to engage the debate as some from our own club have recently.

  4. I have a time to kill at work and wanted to listen to Terry’s(?) chat on Clyde during the week, I know someone had posted the shortened version, does anyone have it?

  5. In my travels today, I was introduced to a fellow-Scot, on holiday from his home town of Kilmarnock.

Once the usual niceties about the weather and the beer were negotiated, the subject turned to football. I told the guy I was a Celtic supporter. I saw a slight hesitancy in his demeanour before he obviously decided to be economical with the truth.

“I’m from Kilmarnock,” he told me.

Note that, despite the fact that he was the one who brought up the ‘football issue’, he didn’t say, “I support Kilmarnock.”

Armed with the information that I am a Celtic supporter, John – for that is his name – told me “That Neil Lennon’s no the guy Celtic need right now.”

“How’s that?” I replied. “We’re still in Europe and all the competitions, and are chasing Rangers for the SPL.”

“Aye but he’s a bit of a liability is he no?”

    “In what way?”

“His behaviour and all that. How he annoys people.”

“You mean how he makes people send him bombs and bullets?”

“Aye. He disnae dae himself any favours.”

“Do you think he deserved the bombs and bullets?”

“Aye well it was what he was brought up with, was it no?”

“Naw. But why do you think he’s not the man Celtic need?”

    “Cos he’s too fenian.”

“What does that mean? How can someone be too fenian?”

“Ach yer playin wi words noo.”

“How am I playing with words? You said too fenian. I asked you what that meant.”

“Too fenian. Too Kafflik. Ye know what I mean.”

    “I don’t.”

    “He plays on it.”

    “In what way?”

“McCoist wears a suit at games. Lennon wears a Celtic track-suit.”

That was when my wife realised the conversation was going nowhere. She dragged me out of there.

John apprached me later and gave me his phone number. He thought it might be an idea if we got together for a beer or two during his stay in the Gold Coast with his daughter.

That piece of paper is lying by the side of the road in Hope Island.

  12. Tom,

He really is just a tube. Don’t sweat it. CQN has it’s bullyboy club and Aw Naw is the leader. It’s a shame, because CQN isn’t what it was and it’s entirely down to that mob. And mob is, increasingly, the most apt word.

Just feel good about the fact that Aw naw likes being the leader of the gang… that tells it’s own story.

  13. Lennon n Mc….Mjallby –

  17. Sorry to break the blog bhoys but i thought this would perhaps interest a few of you.

Mark Hirst is at this moment on a celtic forum giving his views.

Here is what he say’s in relation to the allegations he has made towards Grahame:

    Posted Today, 07:18 PM

I believe Grahame’s backing of the Bill only happened after the Catholic Church came out strongly against the Bill. Remember she had initially been hostile to it, calling for a sunset clause. Same pattern happened with Margos End of Life Choices Bill which she was at the start opposed to, but then backed again after the Catholic church came out strongly against.

As for MacAskill, well you could have heard that chanting in Wick! MacAskill hears what he wants to hear. Today he has come out backing Grahame and calling for my allegations to be treated with the “contempt they deserve”. Strange position to take when he hasn’t seen the evidence!

There are a few well known Rangers supporters working as Special Advisers to Ministers.

When I was working with Craig Brown on the “No to Team GB Campaign” I issued a release attacking the SFA, specifically Gordon Smith and George Peats apparent softening on SFA objections to this. Both Peat and Smith were/are known Rangers supporters. One ministerial Special Adviser emailed me in strong terms saying there was an instruction from the First Minister that the SFA and Smith and Peat in particular should not be criticised. I wondered if they were worried they might lose their batch of complimentary ministerial seats at major games. I was told “You’re basically saying they are unionist c**ts” in the press release that went out… Well, that’s not really for me to say! Others will have their own opinions!

MacAskill would be well advised to stay out of this, as would the rest of the SNP. My target, which I believe is a legitimate one, is Christine Grahame.

There is a great deal of additional information I have, not related to the sectarian issue, that I am certain the Party would not be revealled… If they have any sense left, they will drop this unnecessary Bill, let Grahame face the music herself and we can all get on with our lives… Minus one less sectarian MSP!

  18. His reply to a question on why did he not come out with this before he was sacked:

For the record, I did inform the SNP NEC several months before my dismissal and have emails to prove that – now with the investigating authorities. I also notified the SNP Chief Exec of these issues last month and before the story broke, but no reply from either…

Councillor Terry Kelly is a lunatic and his comments on his blog three years ago is also factually incorrect. I was not sacked by Sandra White but resigned after she lied about the circumstances in which that press release went out. After I resigned I published the email from her showing she had authorised it. A fact Kelly overlooks. If Kelly had taken the time to check he would know I have been actively involved in promoting the peace process in Ireland for over a decade. He’s a complete prat.

  19. Horses????

Not much faith having tipped the only Nicholls horse to get beaten last Saturday.

Anyway going for WISHFULL THINKING in the Paddy Power 2.35 Cheltenham to beat the Nicholls favourite. (Paddy giving you your money back if second to the favourite).

Also like Chicago Grey in 1.55

  20. Morning guys

    I’ll opt for a famous old Celtic name in the Paddy Power glod cup at 2.35pm in;

    Divers. 16/1.

(Mind you I suppose if not using a soft “i” in that name it can be used to describe Naismith and Laugherty)

Tough race and a rough race usually but he is the type of horse who should handle that. As long as the rain stays away he’ll like the ground. His last run where he pulled up at Carlisle was only to give him a blow out with this race in mind. He worked well last week, so at 16/1, worth a few quid each way.

Good luck with your naps today. Hope if I don’t win a million, one of you do:-)
