Come to Celtic, we’ll make you a superstar

412

Moussa Dembele made the most of his debut opportunity for France under-21s yesterday. Arriving as a second half substitute, he soon won a penalty for France’s third and scored their fourth goal. The world has changed for Moussa since coming into the Celtic team for the injured Leigh Grifiths and scoring a hat-trick against Newco less than a month ago.

This is great news for the player but at a time when Celtic are pitching the opportunity to other young players to come to Celtic Park instead of sitting in the development teams of an English club, it’s just as good news for the player.

Moussa isn’t any better than he was at Fulham last year. Had he stayed, or moved to an English Premier League club, none of this would have happened. The move to Celtic has been career-changing within two months of the new season starting.

Telling Moussa’s story, and that of Fraser, Virgil and Victor, will be done again and again whenever Celtic track a player. “Come to Celtic, we’ll make you a superstar” is the mantra.

I see a bit of chat on the review of how away tickets are distributed.  Celtic have asked for input from lots of fans on this in recent weeks.  There are a few areas that aren’t working as well as they could at the moment, so the consultation is a good step.

Am attending a christening in my chapel on Sunday then my dads social club, it’s from my good ladies side, when it comes to religion each to their own, when my mum was on her way out she took great pleasure I was attending mass, and it helped me, I still question it daily, BUT make sure MissGfTB has the same upbringing, when she is 16 (if am still about) it’s up too her to go or not……….. 8. Good morning Kev and all other friends froma very still, high cloud covered dry, bright and, yes, beautiful East Kilbride.

Kev – for me, with international football, it’s pretty simple. I love football. I’m Scottish so it’s us or nobody. The numerous failings of the blazers at the SFA doesn’t stop me supporting the players that are representing my country. Indeed I’m fairly patriotic across the board when it comes to other sports, and even otehr teams. Wanting Hearts to win when they played in Europe is probably my best example. There is of course only one team that consistently failed to gain my support but as they’ve long since departed I don’t have that quandry now.

    Hope you’re keeping well. If you ever fabcy a 5K ParkRun…. ;-)

Jobo, I too will be wanting Scotland to win, it just doesn’t burn as bright for me anymore.

  15. CultsBhoy - sees right through Lawwell and the Board on

Scotland – I hope they win but I’m not that bothered and I have minimal expectations.

Something wrong in our game that so many feel likewise. My only hope is that it prompts investment in grass roots football. I was impressed by the talent of Dembele Jnr this week but where is the Scottish version?

As many of you will know my heart is with youth football. I’m trying to organise a midweek friendly with the North of Scotland development squad and some North East team ( Dundee, Montrose, etc)… It’s proving difficult because we can’t find a venue. When I do find a Junior team willing to let me use their pith it costs £150 once floodlights are part of the deal.

I bet you in Iceland volunteer coaches taking regional development teams don’t have the same problem…

  17. Re away tickets, I am in favour of a change to the current system in spite of the fact that I attended 18 away matches last season and would lose some privileges.

At present there is a system where many supporters have absolutely no possibility of attending certain matches, at Hearts and Aberdeen for example. Football needs to be inclusive. You cannot have a situation where the majority have no chance of attending certain matches for a foreseeable period of time.

In terms of giving away tickets to investors, I would abolish that completely although I know there are some contractual obligations in place at the moment.

    My proposal would be straightforward,

For matches where there are more than 3k tickets, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Sevco, Partick Thistle, tickets are sold on a first come first served basis. That is no change from the existing process.

For the remaining matches, those who have attended the above matches are entered into a ballot. So for example, supporters would have a roughly 20% chance of a ticket for Hearts, 40% for Aberdeen, 70% Inverness and so on. If you get a ticket for the first away match at Hearts for example, you would not be entered into the ballot for the 2nd match assuming they make the top 6.

That method gives everyone a chance.

In terms of those who have attended many away matches in recent times. For them it has been an immense priveledge to do so and they should be commended for their efforts. However, no supporter has a divine right to a ticket for every match regardless.

Whatever happens supporters will be unhappy. It’s a difficult one to deal with.

Strachan is a strange one for me, can’t work him out. I have no time at all for our msm and they deserve all they get, even when they don’t deserve it, as was the case yesterday.

I’ve listened to him waxing lyrical about Celtic on many occasions, usually on Sky which is great PR. In fact I’m struggling to think of any ex Celt who raves on about the club as much, albeit they usually don’t get the platform. He’s a Hibee too remember.

However WGS does have an arrogant side which can let him down. Two years ago I bumped into him in Alicante airport but I’d just as well have been a 14 year old autograph hunter, never mind a guy of same age who could have discussed his entire career with him.

I suppose it takes all sorts.

  21. The bizarre top headline ‘sex dolls’ coverage continues with renewed pace whilst Celtic remain behind the law but still with no sign of the ‘away fans’ that wrecked toilets. The police are still raging about the incident even though the heinous criminals that hung the sash bash dolls were safely huckled and incarcerated at dawn, weeks ago.

Maybe a public hanging? by the time they have whipped up the nation, a publicity excercise to back the act if ever there was one, in the best little police state in the known world.

The whole thing reminds me of the single Celtic 9/11 fan? The Daily Record found him in jig time, with front pages to match and the criminalisation of ‘the entire Celtic support’ was rejoiced.

‘Old firm’ has been repeated more times in the last four years than it was from 1888 until before it died some years before Rangers, it is now a label of convenience to legitimise Sevco sectarian FC.

Celtic are open to all regardless of religion creed or colour.

  22. I see Lenny now getting his tuppence worth in about Wee Dembele. What is this?.At Barca they have the kids in from 8 years old.Does anyone really think that Celtic are not really taking care of this kid?.His education is getting taken care of,and his football progress is being taken care off.Whats the problem. The 10 minutes he got for the big team,I am sure was just a wee cameo for the boy,to let him see what its like, how much he has to learn. He is training with the players at Lennoxtown. All this negative publicity is being stirred up by Level 5,and as usual, many of our own fall for it.Martin Odegaard played when he was 14,I think, but that was a wonderful thing to our media then.

The wee man will be taken care off,as long as he is with Celtic.Ignore the Level 5 guff.
