When Celtic make their trip to the ‘neat little town they call Belfast’ (I’ve been off radar recently, assume it’s still described thus) they will have no reason to believe they are ready for a game of football which could determine the success or failure of the coming season. Instead the players will share a degree of anxiousness.
Cliftonville rank about as low as is possible to get in European competition but they will be better than the Arbroath team which left Glasgow with a draw last season against a Celtic team who were motoring at the time.
We have some concerning history against the Irish. Celtic’s first ever Champions League qualifier was against St Patrick’s Athletic in 1998. The visitors left Celtic Park with a 0-0 draw before Celtic won 0-2 in Ireland. In the 1979-80 European Cup Dundalk gave us a fright. Celtic won the first leg 3-2, at home, but had to endure a nervous second half in Dundalk as the home side searched, in vain as it turned out, for the goal which would allow them to win the tie on away goals.
Anything less than 100% on Wednesday will see Celtic walk a tightrope………

billy sharp as probably you’re aware is a real penalty box predator. his awareness to be there at the right time and place are uncanny. scores loads of “half chances” i wouldnt expect to beat two or three men then thrash the ball into the net but he knows the art of scoring goal. wont have to pay big money but it would be well spent.

It’s just part of the football business. I think it’s only a distraction if you allow it to be. It is certainly not a distraction for anyone at the club.
I had a look at one of the tabloids the other day – every Celtic story was negative and the comments from the readers were all doom and gloom about our club.
On the Sevco pages every picture was a happy face and there was a positive spin on every tale. Suspended reality. I found it pretty amusing to be honest.
I’m guessing the mythical deadline for Celtic to accept a non-existent bid will not be mentioned in the media in the next few days

Found Ramadan a bit tedious, the football team i played with had a few muslims and i don’t know how they went to training after fasting for so long, takes some doing in my book. Enjoyed Dubai was safest place i’ve ever been, never saw any crime, grafitti etc. Used to live in Bur Dubai interesting place.

My point is we are not going to sign a player who is scoring twenty plau a season in one of the top leagues in Europe. Hopefully any striker we sign should be able to score twenty goals a season whilst sleep walking in our top tier. Whether they will be able to score goals in Europe is another matter but that is part of the development part for these signings.
Why nobody is basking down the dorr to get the Ghod Like Genius of Georgios Samaras I do not know (he scores goals in Europe and he is not even a striker).
