This is the last day to complete our survey into who we, the Celtic community, are, our thoughts, values and where we came from. It’s a short, anonymous, survey, with questions on the Living Wage, the Offensive Behaviour Act, Resolution 12 and other topics, including your view on last week’s referendum.
Thousands of people have already taken part so we will have an excellent insight into what the Celtic community looks like in 2014. If you’ve not already participated, you can let your voice be heard here.
A European academic has compiled the survey and we’ll publish findings shortly.
It’s refreshing to hear a manager be frank about a sporting forgone conclusion, as Ronny did yesterday, “we are definitely going to win the league”. More importantly, he added “The goal is the treble”.
For reasons which have never been evident, apart from Jock Stein’s first five seasons, and a gloriously sunny day in 1957, Celtic have underachieved on a massive scale in the League Cup, a trophy we haven’t won in the last five seasons.
It’s maybe been seen as too much of a poor-relation when the team have higher targets in mind, but it’s more accurate to say we have been an ill-prepared soft touch since Jock’s five-in-a-row came to an end. Superior performances in the Scottish Cup suggest there is more than the randomness of cup football at play in the League trophy.
I never understood the criticisms of Neil Lennon for his ‘failure’ to win the treble. We achieved this feat only three times in our history. Even when we won the league, the vast majority of times we failed to win both cups was as a result of defeat to someone other than Rangers, so their liquidation in 2012 should not affect the trend.
Ronny is three games away from his first trophy as a Celtic manager; he will be hot favourite for each of them. On paper, the Scottish Cup will present no more danger, but winning two cups takes a level of consistency that even the great [and consistent]Celtic teams struggled to achieve.
Before we consider the treble we need to find consistency in the league and Europa League, starting with wins and clean sheets against St Mirren and Dinamo Zagreb. If we can do this, this could yet be a memorable season.
Remember the survey closes tonight!

You know my feelings mate, there should have been a period of even a couple of days where those in the lower tier who’re not in the home ticket cup scheme had the option to buy tickets for their own seat.

No mate won’t make it. We’re down in Newcastle that weekend for the Tyneside No1 CSC 25th anniversary dance.

Serious question
Berget signs, plays next game and oot
Wakaso, signs, plays 1 game and oot
Did they both get injured ?
Wakaso seemed to work back in the game he played
Pfayr, either the message from Ronny is not getting through, or players not listening ?
Hail Hail

I’ll get back to you re the St John Doyle night, as you know Fridays are difficult for me.

Sod that taxi drivers have more time :-)
Our current full backs are a source of frustration.
Domestically when playing against teams with one up front
they are rarely tested defensively.
Which is a relief as neither can defend particularly well.
Going forward they should be much more effective but
their crossing is average at best, and as for their shooting the least said the better.

I don’t think we have the quality of player to play Deila’s system
The players don’t cover our FBs….we’re constantly outnumbered in midfield ….huge gaps all over the field …we constantly lose the second ball
At times we look as if the opposition have more players
We’re wide open
As for the constant tinkering ..FFS ….
Cowiebhoy,
Berget was on the bench the next game and played the game after.
Wakaso was out out. Injured.

Our best player so far this season is the goalkeeper

What really troubled me the other night was watching our shape/formation when Hearts were breaking forward.
We left 4 players up the park every time.
That worries me. There was no gesticulating from the dug out so they’ve obviously been told to stay up front.
That’s mental to me and we’ll continue to be punished if we persist with such an attacking outlook.

Cheers mate and yes I understand that Friday nights are difficult for you.

Whilst watching the Sporting v Porto game I took a look at the Wikipedia entry for Sporting. I saw the following interesting quote. “Also in 1912 Sporting won its first in a long series of National Cross Country Championships then the players all took a big dump on the field.”
Probably written by a Benfica fan.

Try The Burns in Prestwick Main St….you’ll enjoy that …particularly the wee function room at the back …:-))

Does that take us back to our head of scouting ?
Geordie, apologies, I was not really clear with that, the players did not start in next game, and include Tonev in that.
HT, snap, we are not playing as a cohesive unit ( as put by pfayr in other words) which is really worrying
Hail hail
Hamiltontim, Izzy has been better in the Dons & Hearts games and I hope we get him back to his first season best.
His over enthusiastic style against England & in the World Cup was hard to fathom out. I don’t know if he was acting on the manager’s orders or not.
We definitely need cover for him and finally get one in January (praying we do).
PFayr, I agree we don’t have the players to play his preferred system.
Someone mentioned earlier that the Middlesborough manager slowly brought in the style of play he wanted, using his first season to do the breaking in work. They are playing a lot better this season.
I appreciate Boro aren’t Celtic and don’t have the same pressure on us but their manager has improved them by adapting the team’s style slowly to let the players adapt to it.
Pfayr
I’m going to guess you’re being facetious and that it’s either a Madonic or a Lodge?! :-)

Another point on our tac tics, and is a carry over from Lenny’s time
When opposition get a corner, we play our 11 players in our box, why ? Pulling opposition on top of us
Put 2 players up the park and pul at least 3 or 4 of opposition out, leaves 9 of our own against max 6 of opposition ( corner taker and goalie plus 3 covering our 2 at halfway line)
Seems simple to me
Hail Hail
HT
It’s his hoose
Our manager is still trying to find his best team
which is slightly concerning at the end of September.
This could be construed in two ways.
Either he is a perfectionist or he hasnae a clue.
The reality is probably somewhere in between.
Cowiebhoy
Scouting…not sure …
I think the manager has some esoteric footballing ideal which he seems intent on continuing with ….when it’s plain that it doesn’t work
We were all delighted with a three nil win against a lower league team ….one pen and one OG…
FFS …managing expectations

Mubarak’s twitter account had the Bhoy saying he got a jag (my word, not his) in his knee down in London. Was hoping to be training again in a couple of weeks.
Think it happened when he went down and rolled and rolled and rolled some more?!?

Cowiebhoy,
I’m not sure why they didn’t start next game. None of them done enough on their debuts to warrant an automatic start next game imo.
With the exception of wakaso. I thought he showed some decent stuff when involved.
HT
Try it
Hugh ( Burns) …will be delighted to see you .

Involved in a RTA in London? Never read that in the papers:)
Be back the noo
Away to google esoteric :-)

That’s been a bone of contention of mine for years. Also the fact that we rarely put a man on the edge of the box when defending corners.
SOAL
He’s too rich to live in Prestwick :-)
It is refreshing to read posts about our Team.
Stokes and Izzy did exceptionally well against Hearts and people are touting them to continue to do more. However, I do not believe they will be so effective against better opposition.
We have two main issues. Which hamiltontim and …PFayr have already posted.
We do not have the right Personnel yet to play Ronny’s system.
We must track back when the other team are on the offensive, especially in Europe.
We can play Ronny’s system when we a better quality of Player, coupled with encouraging Players to track back.
Personally I still think we need to strengthen the Midfield.
Keep the Faith!

Dallas Dallas…
Middlesbrough had reached such a low that anything was better than what they had
We are much worse than last season ….cannae keep a clean sheet and can barely score

I know it, it’s next to the chip shop. Never been in and certainly won’t be frequenting it now.
We always go to Flannagans which is now called Wicks.

Some bluenose pals of mine thought Shuggie Burns would be a better player than Danny ever was, wooft.
They also thought a few years earlier, Davie McKinnon was better than Danny.
Dear oh dear, life on the blue side is something else.
Up until now i have no idea what type of team formation
our manager is trying to play.
And by the look of it neither do our players.
Let’s find a settled formation and stick it to it.
The players will then know what they are supposed to be doing.
Imo 4 4 2 and we will win the treble.
