Contagion from omnishambles, welcome Brendan

664

Let’s be clear about this, there are Celtic fans who believe we need a club called Rangers to survive in the manner which we’ve all become accustomed to over the last couple of decades. That without them, we will wither on the vine.

Some of this is correct. In the years following the liquidation of Rangers we lost TV, commercial, mechanise and season ticket income. We play in a league with significantly less competition, which blunts players’ edge and makes Celtic Park a less attractive place to play or be a spectator.

The important question for Celtic fans is what do they actually want from their club? I’ll cope when we were only a few points ahead of Aberdeen, or getting knocked out of the League Cup by Ross County, while being eliminated from Europe by increasingly obscure teams. I’ll still be there supporting my team.

I accept that not everyone will, some of us want the edge of your seat tension – and that’s all right. But I’d ask anyone who pines for the old days to consider the omnishambles of a football team we glimpsed over the weekend. There was no wonder era in the past when we benefited from a great rivalry without destructive contagion.

They were never good for us. Whatever about Celtic is dependent on them is not worth having.

This afternoon we welcome our new manager, Brendan Rodgers, to Celtic Park for the first time. This morning I recalled Ricky Fulton’s words in the video clip below, “It only remains for me to welcome you to the club, Brendan.” A different club, of course, but there’s a morality tale within.

  1. A whole new Level of pre-packaged hun reputation management.

The Huns are over-cookin’ it tho’………

  2. Good evening CQN

Well what a welcome Brendan Rodgers received today, he now knows he really is at a big club

Main stand holds 8,000 which was full add on at least another 2000 in the jock stein and Lisbon lions stands, a fair guess of 10000 there today, with plenty of CQN’s in the stands to give Brendan a true Celtic welcome

Brendan was very accomplished today never put a foot wrong in all the interviews, he came across to me as a cool determined man, results as always will tell the truth

Welcome to the Celtic family Brendan, may the wind always be at your back and may the sun shine always on your face…………….need to keep the tan up

English hitting back at Traynor. Confirmed he approved the statement.

Said his PR company needs a PR company!

  4. It’s all very positive about the club at present. What a difference a manager can make before a ball has been kicked.

This time next year I predict some analysis of a Treble. The least I want is a league and Scottish Cup Double. That trophy I regard as the property of Celtic. The League Cup is good. But the Scottish Cup is the business. I’d love to see an all Glasgow Cup Final – Celtic V Partick. What a riot (of colour) that would be.

I was gonna comment on the ongoing debacle at Iborcs/ Hamdump but to be honest, it’s too easy. Like the slack parents with the naughty child, they are indulging the little monster. When they get in to trouble again they’ll wring their hands and cry ‘whose fault is it this time?’. They will never learn. I’m leaving them to it. A good Resolution 12 sized kick in the clem fandangos I hope is on the not too distant horizon……

I think we are four signings and a good reorganisation of football style and operations away from being a decent side.

  5. Good night CQN

BBC debate on this day WTF ? why are you listening to irrelevant nonentities with an agenda

Chico – befuddled but sleekit dangerous hun placeman.

Don’t kid yourself. He knows exactly what he is doing.

  7. Quonno – hence the reference to “dangerous”……………

Of course he knows exactly what he is doing and why he is doing it.

    TET,

Same as every other preseason, falling out about rumoured signings that won’t materialise :)

Oh and they are all diddies BTW, except the good wans :)

  14. I wonder if John Hughes is in BR plans to be his assistant . Saw something regards Barton on my Facebook page didn,t open it as it was from a right Sevco site , has he signed for someone else .

  15. Now is the time for unity.

If you can afford it ,get your season tickets renewed.

Help put more money into the club so Brendan can have more for players .

Sevco get their independent inquiry (of course!)

    BBC show Celtic fans fighting.

    ———————

If that’s true, the club should get the lawyers down on the BBC like a ton of bricks. An absolutely outrageous and indefensible slur.

As for Joey Barton, who cares. Thug aged 33 might join thugs aged 4.

Now back to the real news.

He’s heard YNWA at Anfield a thousand times – but he never had it sung to him like this

THOUSANDS of fans turned out at Celtic Park to welcome new manager Brendan Rodgers to Paradise – and brought a tear to his eye with a rousing rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone.

The former Liverpool coach was visibly moved at his reception from the extraordinary turnout of Hoops fans.

And he told them: ‘Tommy Burns told me exactly what managing this club means.’

Rodgers said his aim is to “get this place rocking again” and cemented his credentials as a top-flight appointment by never once mentioning the pathetic, small-scale, self-destructing, bigoted pantomime occurring across the river.

*My otherwise impeccable journalistic standards might have slipped a little at the end there. But not by much.

Over the coming years, like what BR said, wonder how long he’s agreed

  18. CultsBhoy - likes Lawwell back in his box on

Any update on number of season ticket sold …?

DD gets the concept of managed risk… He’s probably recouped BR wages already ..?

  19. Polic Scotland set up huge inquiry, drawing on resources and detectives from all over – their words, btw. an incident room woth dedicated phone line looking for people to supply information, video footage, etc on any criminal acts witnessed.

Well, c’mon Hibees – get those videos of the child-snatching, pitch-invading, Billy Boys singing, affraying Huns sent in.

What a feckin’ joke of a country; every time the Zombies disgrace themselves in public, it’s parliamentry stramash time.

Oh, and how much public/taxpayers money is going to be wasted on this trite pish?

Not that the Huns will bother because they don’t pay any anyway…
