CQN Golf Open knocks it out the park again

1384

We had our 11th annual CQN Charity Golf Open at Aberdour in Fife yesterday and it was another brilliant occasion.  £2000 was raised for good causes, including a local Aberdour need, Tommy Burns’ Charity and the Celtic Foundation.

My thanks to the Joe Miller, who regaled us with tales of Maradona, Jinky and Sugar Roy Aitken.  The buzz he got from playing for Celtic is clear.  The day wouldn’t be possible without Taggsybhoy and BlantyreKev, but it takes an entire crowd to make special nights like this, so thanks to each of you.

This afternoon’s game against Rennes is an important step towards getting the players fully fit but the 90 minutes have to be balanced against the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.  I expect Ronny will ask the players the burn the flame brightly for a short period, before making lots of changes.

No, I’m saying I don’t think his model works.

So I was proposing a different scenario that could work in Scotland.

Instead of being in the shadows of English Football scheduling wise and financially. We could develop our own model based on the latest technology.

If someone wants to stream St Mirren vs Arbroath rather than watch the scheduled Celtic Aberdeen match on TV that’s fine, if they’ve subscribed to SPFL TV they can.

The production values will be lower but you can watch the team you support. The weekly six or so scheduled matches will be on the Subscribed SPFL TV in the UK and will be of sufficient quality that they can be sold to other National Broadcasters in the UK or abroad.

But all subscribers Globally can stream the matches.

    Hail Hail

The blackout period stems from the 60s when Bob Lord of Burnley argued for it on grounds that no longer have the same if any weight.

The thing about this whole TV issue is that is one of those rather large elephants to be eaten a bit at a time.

Removing the 3 to 5 ban is one portion.

Chairbhoy suggests how a 3 to 5 might work but rather than leaving the others to whistle Dixie as you put it, there could be a built in compensation element where a portion of any windfall income over a certain amount due to circumstances that produce it, is creamed off in a compensation fund.

The point about football, the absolutely inescapable one that all clubs run into, is that it is interdependent and unless some of the income earned is recirculated then the unwillingness to do so is self damaging.

It should not be beyond the wit of those running the game to arrive at a formula for fair sharing.

  9. Chairbhoy

Thanks for taking time to respond. It helps discard what will not work and look at what might.

    ——

“it is entirely reasonable for the club to point out something along the lines of

‘we are very disappointed that the media have felt the need to focus on the alleged behaviour of a tiny number of fans, instead of a superb on the pitch performance, when our fan group as a whole have been heartily praised by all for their magnificent behaviour in recent times, and most especially whilst being subjected to extreme provocation during and after the playoff final. Our club continues to fight sectarianism in all walks of life, as if evidenced by numerous withdrawals of match-day attendance rights for those who fail to follow the clubs lead on sectarian singing. We will continue to vigorously fight against sectarianism, and many clubs and official agencies in Scotland could benefit from taking a lead from the hardline approach we have taken in seeking to address this wider social problem.’

The real bigots have got into place as instructed by JP the 2nd yet are the very first ones to claim discrimination against them, especially when they get caught doing wrong.

Sadly a country once world renowned for its freedom and forward thinking is filled with brainwashed nuggets easily manipulated by a controlled mhedia.

For far too long these mouthpieces have had a free run at our club and our people, we need to start to shout them down via the modern media facilities, We also need to let them know when we cross their paths that their lies will no longer be tolerated.

    And they’re in a comma.

  15. Yes Auldheid @17:15, thanks for making that point. (My scenario has Scotland lifting the blackout but not necessarily England, is this possible?)

But yes the money would go into a pot and be distributed in a fair way.

The fact is we sell, what two, three, four games a week for the pittance we get in return. We can still do that and if English Football sticks with the blackout, we should be able to sell the top Scottish games to a UK Broadcaster, as it would be the only game on at that time.

My thoughts are that package alone should be worth as much or more than we’re getting now.

Then we have SPFL TV a TV subscriber channel and an on-demand service. Scottish Football Supporters throughout the Globe can subscribe (though only those in the UK will have the TV service).

That income should dwarf what we get now, and the service could be used for news, interviews even the National Team. Anything that could promote the game.

We wouldn’t be dependant on Sky for the games or SMSM for news or the BBC for their lowlights programme, (although if they’re still going to pay they can still have it.)

The general public will see no difference in the way they get their football but the Scottish Football supporters will get a much better service and a way of contributing to their Clubs.

    Win/Win for me.

How many times have they been reported so far, each report ending with zero sanction.

The authorities should just come out and admit that this club is above the law and can do whatever it wants.
