Critical link between manager and scouts needs urgent attention

205

Although the Euros do not start until Friday, players from Gibraltar to Germany are in action tonight as hundreds of the Continent’s best players continue their preparation for the tournament.  Many will be available for sale, just look at the Celtic players that have featured in international friendlies in recent days.

Even if he was already in place, Ange Postecoglou would be unable to travel to games in person but the most important job right now is to scout potential targets across dozens of games.  This process requires the manager to work in tandem with his scouts and technical team.  I doubt any of Celtic’s scouts of technicians have had as much as a Teams call with the new boss.

Despite the time difference and being thousands of miles away, Ange can watch as many games as he could from Glasgow, but scouting is not a solitary operation.  The critical link between him and the rest of the team needs to be established as soon as possible.

  1. Is there a medical diagnosis for when a song gets stuck in your heid for days and days, no matter how shite it is.

It is a recognised condition of something ?

I enjoyed the Scotland Juke Box programme and a trawl through the song book.

No doubt for me , I have a dream is a work of music and lyrical and comic genius , a steaming John Robertson

“is given the ball to me”

so how come since saturday i am singing the Krankies

Reporting Scotland referring ( at least twice) to the `collapse` of Rangers in 2012.

It actually makes me smile ( rather than angry) listening to their attempts to avoid mentioning `liquidation`.

    ——-

The liquidation of Rangers FC has not yet been completed – as we all know it is still in the hands of BDO, nine years and four months since the club entered administration.

By definition, to mention this means that in fact another *Rangers must be in existence and competing……a new club. The media have been ‘dancing on the head of a pin’ for years – in fact I believe some newspapers even took to ‘moderating’ comments & letters that used the word Sevco.

Saint Stivs , The cure for having a crap song stuck in your head is to replace it with another catchy tune , I believe there called ear worms or sumthin :( ;)

  4. Thanks for the positive feedback lhads, we all want the same things and I hope he can pull together. Technically we could improve all playing positions but realistically it’s not goi g to happen in one transfer window.

Given the likely manager and having watch his teams highlights etc, Boli was signed as an attacking left back, wingback so change in system and style likely to play to his strength. In retrospect I think he got a raw deal at start of season unlike many others thereafter.

I agree Griff will score goals and will get in the positions needed, it’s his lack of professionalism and injury record that worries me. If I were celtic I would not be offering current wages perhaps a one year on 50% of current wage with second year option if he knuckles down and proves his with, it’s the best offer he will get.

    France, Portugal, Italy….in that order.

You feel it’s now or never for this generation of Belgian players but with a creaky defence and Hazard unfit/out of form, it might be a stretch for them to actually win it although they’ll go far.

  6. rpmcelticfan on

The Griff has had a raw deal imo , he returned a fraction overweight and was thrown under the bus by Lenny and hasn’t had a fair deal since , proven his worth ? hes done that all his career and never been treated with the respect a foreigner would have , all in my opinion which im entitled to :)

Is this the first time ever that Scotland have never ever been drawn in “the group of death” ?

in every tournament I have watched them “we will always have to do it the hard way” and “we never get it easy”seems to get trotted out.

    France for me.

Depth of squad, quality of individuals, Mbappe can stamp himself all over this tournament.

Less questions about France than others, would be confident they can get past Belgium in SF where they are seeded to meet.

5/1 France ew 1/2 1-2, ie 5/2 France making the final guaranteeing a return, strikes me as the best value at top of the market.

The Top Scorer market is not what it used to be; Kane, Mbappe and Lukaku well worth their places at the top of the market. Lukaku should get 6 games and is recognised penalty taker.

I may have a bit each way on him.

David Henderson(serious journalist) ahem, reporting on the Charles Green case says that rangers “collapsed” in 2012.

Go for it David -job is available in Reporting North Korea if your interested

itscalledthemalvinas , Every supposedly reputable news outlet reported them as either being relegated or demoted BBC STV SKY etc all lies , so no surprise it continues .

Bolingoli obviously shouldn’t have done what he did,he was basically deported, compare it to Gerrard and Sevco, riding roughshod over the Covid rules, talking about stopping a young player not getting experience….absolute bollox, to telling the SFA when they would take a ban,not in any other country……

  13. IniquitousIV on

The liquidation of Rangers FC has been interminable, but no doubt profitable for the liquidators

( I believe the process for Airdrie FC took over 10 years. Just unconscionable.

It will be fascinating to read how the denouement of the process will be reported. It is hard to imagine how a report re a completed liquidation on a specific date could be described as a ‘demotion’,‘relegation’ or ‘collapse.’

Doubtless it will be ignored, or brushed under the carpet with a minute and obscure footnote. That would be an ideal point for the Celtic Board to highlight it, but it will never happen.

  14. !!Bada Bing!! on

Leicester and Celtic held ‘constructive’ talks over striker Odsonne Edouard; Brendan Rodgers originally signed 23-year-old from Toulouse in 2017 during his time as Parkhead boss; France U21 international’s contract with Celtic runs out in June 2022

  15. Go tell the Spartim on

When did we sign OE from Toulouse it was PSG no?

Whilst I don’t agree with Stephbhoys selection I do agree with the concept. There would hopefully be plenty of loan options, whilst we wouldn’t get him due to Liverpool’s strategy of supporting Slippy G, Neco Williams on loan would do a job at RB. Andre Ayew on a free up front, don’t think we’ve a choice but to give LG another of his twelve last chances, Ajeti can obv play a bit does he have the desire to do it for us, def need another winger to support JF, MJ isn’t mature enough to step up, physically or in a team environment (still thinks it’s his baw) we either need a different midfield strategy or an imposing dominator (in the mould of Marcel Desailly ) and at least 2 CB. Boli will go and we’ll prob buy Hickey. Unless we’ve a GK in mind and we’ve been linked with Freddie Woodman we’ll stick with Barkas. Food for thought

    —-

All you write is true. The long grass is full of *Rangers issues – from the liquidation, to all the Ashley court cases, to the Memorial wall…..etc.

There are lots of very clever accountants, QCs & lawyers on both sides employed full time on these issues, not to mention the amount of court time.

Can you imagine if, as some people demand, we had been involved in legal fights on stripping of titles, the 5WA, Nimmo Smith & Res 12. The drain on our time and resources would still be going on. In no way am I saying that we don’t have justified complaints on all these issues. We are a football club and to borrow a phrase that Paul67 quoted from Peter Lawwell – “what is best for Celtic”.

Sometimes in this unfair world, you have to be pragmatic. The consequences suffered by the Ibrox franchise were substantial, more than even the most zealous of us thought would be possible at the time.

Let’s be super vigilant in future, leave the Ibrox issues in the past and get on with our real business – “we have bigger fish to fry”.

Its a few months since I could be bothered to write pish down…..the negativity was depressing…. when Paul started this blog I joined maybe a year later …I was one of the worst for negativity…..maybe the birth of a couple of young bitches mellowed me or maybe our unprecedented success mellowed me …4 trebles in a row really will never be equalled……I don’t know…but I just couldn’t get involved with the constant incessant doom and gloom…..I hated the 10 in a row song early doors simply because…..its magic you know we’re gonna get 10 in a row ….still haunts me from the 70s ..fecking pilot…pish anyway…..and call me superstitious but I detested it and never once joined in………as for the new boss ….don’t want to be negative…but fs I’ve written next season off already !!!….LOL..

What about the forthcoming Liquidation of Celtic?

Thats what some of our supporters are working hard at, They want to hit the club in the pocket. They want to boycott Season books. They want to picket games to stop Fans attending. They want the club to go out of business. Thats where this leads, This aim to hurt the club, hurt the Board, drive Desmond out. They even protested against McKay today. They want him out before his start date.

I thought the last few years were a bit mad when guys proposed punishing Celtic because Rangers cheated. That madness is nothing compared to some of the stuff on the Huddleboard,

These dicks are the biggest danger to our clubs existence

    ——

    Oh how right you are!

Lenny has his good points(many) and some not so good – however he hit it ‘on the head’ when he called out some so-called supporters. If this is how some act after 9iar, four trebles and almost a decade of success – what would they get up to if we hit a prolonged bad spell?

99% of Celtic supporters don’t have it in their DNA to do anything to hurt Celtic . Sadly there are those among us…around 3%, mostly involved in factions, who would “cut their noses off to spite their face”.

We don’t have to imagine what they would do – we have seen it in action on European nights when, in order to satisfy their own agenda, they flout UEFA regulations, jeopardise our participation and cost the club hundred of thousands of pounds in fines.

  21. CardboardCSC on

More laughter and mocking from the Hun incoming. I believe Lennys description of a new breed of fans is bang on. Fans that have never seen Celtic go through hard times. It’s a new generation.

    Italian 90,

On the 11th of June the Republic played against England in a 1-1 draw.

I had the good sense to record the game (on VHS) as I was working night shift.

2 days later (13th) I married the beautiful Mrs BB (nee McGhee) early on the Wed morn, we had a brilliant house wedding (immediate family), I was not partaking of any alcohol and was driving back to our flat in Kilsyth later that evening.

After pouring out our Priest ( St James, Coatbridge ) I explained to his then colleague that I didn’t feel that Fr K would be saying Devotions later that evening.

later, 10sh, we arrived at our humble abode, later, after our first special cuddle we settled for the night, however, as I mentioned earlier, I had the good sense to record the game, then roughly at 3am, me and a half dozen cans of Tennents watched the game.

Something must have been right, we will be celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary.

Mrs BB has been amazing from since we met, the past couple of years I have had a wee health scare, (AML) fortunately, I have been in remission for over a year now, had a telephone consultation this morning , he is delighted with my progress.

With out the support of my wife (Jane) and son ( Martin), also, the staff at Ward 16 of Monklands Hospital I know I could have not been here with out you.

Strange – you such an expert on facts and figures and all.

  25. When I was a young Celtic supporter I was told by my father uncles and Grandad, the history. I knew that there were people who wished to do Celtic down, They included SFA, Referees, Papers and of course the Huns,

The club survived and thrived in the words of Philip because of the “fighting mad Fenians who give them support. We didn’t believe what the papers said we know who were our friends.

Now I should forget all that and find our biggest opponents are so called fellow fans claim the high ground and want to destroy the club. They wish to drive the club out of business into Liquidation.

I now hear from our Irish followers that there is a hostility to the Irish from our Scottish supporters. They dont feel welcome to be at Celtic park and this new breed of supporters are suspicious and hostile and comments such as “irish Bastard” are not uncommon.

I am appalled by this. I come from an Irish background and have always felt an empathy for our Irish Brothers and admired their resistance to the Brits. We were on the one road.

Celtic was founded by the Irish in Glasgow and I hope to continue it to be so.

    Deeply depressing
